Hadith of 'Abd Al-Rahman ibn Safwan from the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 15550
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ , عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ , قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ الْحَجَرِ وَالْبَابِ ، وَاضِعًا وَجْهَهُ عَلَى الْبَيْتِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Safwan that I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clinging between the Black Stone and the door of the Ka'bah; he had placed his blessed face upon the House of Allah.
Hadith 15551
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ , عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ , قَالَ : كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ يُقَالُ لَهُ : عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ ، وَكَانَ لَهُ بَلَاءٌ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ حَسَنٌ ، وَكَانَ صَدِيقًا لِلْعَبَّاسِ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ ، جَاءَ بِأَبِيهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، بَايِعْهُ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ ، فَأَبَى ، وَقَالَ : " إِنَّهَا لَا هِجْرَةَ " , فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَى الْعَبَّاسِ وَهُوَ فِي السِّقَايَةِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا أَبَا الْفَضْلِ ، أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَبِي يُبَايِعُهُ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ ، فَأَبَى , قَالَ : فَقَامَ الْعَبَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَمَا عَلَيْهِ رِدَاءٌ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَدْ عَرَفْتَ مَا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ فُلَانٍ ، وَأَتَاكَ بِأَبِيهِ لِتُبَايِعَهُ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ ، فَأَبَيْتَ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِنَّهَا لَا هِجْرَةَ " , فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ : أَقْسَمْتُ عَلَيْكَ لَتُبَايِعَنَّهُ , قَالَ : فَبَسَطَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " هَاتِ ، أَبْرَرْتُ قَسَمَ عَمِّي ، وَلَا هِجْرَةَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Safwan, who faced great trials in Islam and was a friend of Sayyiduna Abbas, brought his father to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) on the day of the conquest of Makkah and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Take the pledge of migration from him." The Prophet (peace be upon him) refused and said that the command of migration is no longer in effect. Upon this, he went to Sayyiduna Abbas, who was serving water to the people, and said to him, "O Abu Fadl, I brought my father to the Prophet (peace be upon him) so that he would take the pledge of migration from him, but he refused." Hazrat Abbas got up with him without even taking his cloak and said, "O Messenger of Allah! You know what kind of relationship I have with this person. He brought his father to you so that you would take the pledge of migration from him, but you refused." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "The command of migration is no longer in effect." He said, "I implore you, please take his pledge." The Prophet (peace be upon him) then extended his blessed hand and said, "Come, I will fulfill my uncle's request, but the matter remains that the command of migration is no longer in effect."
Hadith 15552
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ , عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ , قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , مُلْتَزِمًا الْبَابَ مَا بَيْنَ الْحَجَرِ وَالْبَابِ ، وَرَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ مُلْتَزِمِينَ الْبَيْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Safwan that I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clinging between the Black Stone and the door of the Ka'bah; he had placed his blessed face upon the House of Allah. And I also saw people clinging to the House of Allah along with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 15553
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا افْتَتَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَكَّةَ ، قُلْتُ لَأَلْبَسَنَّ ثِيَابِي وَكَانَ دَارِي عَلَى الطَّرِيقِ فَلَأَنْظُرَنَّ مَا يَصْنَعُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ ، فَوَافَقْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ خَرَجَ مِنَ الْكَعْبَةِ ، وَأَصْحَابُهُ قَدْ اسْتَلَمُوا الْبَيْتَ مِنَ الْبَابِ إِلَى الْحَطِيمِ ، وَقَدْ وَضَعُوا خُدُودَهُمْ عَلَى الْبَيْتِ ، وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسْطَهُمْ ، فَقُلْتُ لِعُمَرَ كَيْفَ صَنَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ دَخَلَ الْكَعْبَةَ ؟ قَالَ : " صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Safwan that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Makkah, I thought in my heart that I should go home—which was on the way—put on my clothes, and see what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was doing. So I went and reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he had come out of the Ka'bah. The noble Companions were performing istilam; they had placed their cheeks on the House of Allah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was among all of them. I asked Sayyiduna Umar what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had done after entering the Ka'bah, so he informed me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had performed two rak'ahs (units of prayer).
