It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Umm Maktum that once I presented myself before the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! My house is far, I cannot see, someone can bring me (to the mosque), and he does not mind doing so, but do you see any concession for me that I may pray at home?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "Do you hear the call to prayer (adhan)?" I said, "Yes." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then I do not find any concession for you."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum that once the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet’s Mosque and the number of people was few. Upon this, he said: My heart desires that I appoint a man to lead the people in prayer, and I myself go out; and whoever I see praying at home, I set his house on fire. Hearing this, Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum said: O Messenger of Allah! There is a garden and trees between my house and the Prophet’s Mosque, and I do not always have a guide available at every moment. Do you permit me to pray at home? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Do you hear the call to prayer? He replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Then you should come for the prayer.
