حَدِیث عَبدِ الرَّحمَنِ بنِ اَبزَى الخزَاعِیِّ رَضِیَ اللَّه تَعَالَى عَنه
Hadith of Abdur-Rahman ibn Abza al-Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 15352
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُمْرَانَ رَجُلٌ كَانَ بِوَاسِط ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى يُحَدِّثُ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّهُ صَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَكَانَ لَا يُتِمُّ التَّكْبِيرَ , يَعْنِي : إِذَا خَفَضَ , وَإِذَا رَفَعَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abzi that he had the honor of offering prayer with the Prophet (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) would not say the complete takbeer while bowing for ruku and while raising his head.
Hadith 15353
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ , وَحَجَّاجٌ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ , عَنْ زُرَارَةَ , قَالَ : حَجَّاجٌ فِي حَدِيثِه , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ زُرَارَةَ , عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ : " يُوتِرُ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abza that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah "Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High" (Surah Al-A'la) in Witr prayer.
Hadith 15354
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ , وَزُبَيْدٍ الْإِيَامِيِّ , عَنْ ذَرٍّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ : " يَقْرَأُ فِي الْوِتْرِ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى , وَقُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ , وَقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ , فَإِذَا سَلَّمَ , قَالَ : " سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ ، سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ ، سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ " , وَرَفَعَ بِهَا صَوْتَهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abza that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Sabbihisma Rabbikal A'la, Surah Kafiroon, and Surah Ikhlas in Witr, and after concluding the prayer with salam, he would say "Subhanal Malikil Quddus" three times in a raised voice.

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ عَزْرَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ : " يَقْرَأُ فِي الْوِتْرِ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى , وَقُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ , وَقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ , وَكَانَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ قَالَ : " سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ " يُطَوِّلُهَا ثَلَاثًا .

Hadith 15357
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَزْرَةَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى (٦) ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِمِثْلِ هَذَا. قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي زُبَيْدٌ وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ سَمِعَا ذَرًّا يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِثْلَ هَذَا
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 15358
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ زُبَيْدٌ , وَسَلَمَةُ : أخبراني أنهما سمعا ذرا ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ : " يُوتِرُ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى , وَقُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ , وَقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ , وَكَانَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ , قال : " سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ " ثَلَاثًا يَرْفَعُ صَوْتَهُ بِالْآخِرَةِ .

Hadith 15360
(حديث مرفوع) قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ ذَرٍّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " أَصْبَحْنَا عَلَى فِطْرَةِ الْإِسْلَامِ ، وَعَلَى كَلِمَةِ الْإِخْلَاصِ ، وَعَلَى دِينِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَعَلَى مِلَّةِ أَبِينَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ 56 حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا ، وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abza that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: We were upon the natural disposition of Islam, the word of sincerity, and the religion of Muhammad, upon the faith of our forefather Sayyiduna Ibrahim, who turned away from all else and was a Muslim, and was not among the polytheists.
Hadith 15361
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ ذَرِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُرْهِبِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ , قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُوتِرُ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى , وَقُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ , وَقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ , وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفَ مِنَ الْوِتْرِ ، قَالَ : " سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ " ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، ثُمَّ يَرْفَعُ صَوْتَهُ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ .

Hadith 15365
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي الْفَجْرِ ، فَتَرَكَ آيَةً ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قَالَ : " أَفِي الْقَوْمِ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ ؟ " قَالَ : أُبَيٌّ , يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، نُسِخَتْ آيَةُ كَذَا وَكَذَا أَوْ نُسِّيتَهَا ، قَالَ : " نُسِّيتُهَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abzi that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading the Fajr prayer. During the recitation, one verse was omitted. After finishing the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Is Ubayy bin Ka'b among the worshippers?" Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b said, "O Messenger of Allah! Has such-and-such verse been abrogated or did you forget it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "I forgot it."
Hadith 15366
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ , عَنْ زُرَارَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ : " يُوتِرُ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى " .

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُزَاعِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبْزَى ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَانَ : " يُشِيرُ بِأُصْبُعِهِ السَّبَّاحَةِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abzi that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to gesture with the index finger during prayer.
Hadith 15369
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عِمْرَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّهُ " صَلَّى خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَكَانَ لَا يُتِمُّ التَّكْبِيرَ " .

Hadith 15370
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ رَاشِدٍ أَبِي سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ , قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، فَدَعَا ، وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ ، ثُمَّ كَانَ يُشِيرُ بِأُصْبُعِهِ إذا دعا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abzi that when the Prophet (ﷺ) would sit and supplicate in prayer, he would place his right hand on his thigh and gesture with his finger while supplicating.
Hadith 15371
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ضَمْرَةُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شَوْذَبَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ , قَالَ : جَلَسْنَا إِلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، فَقَالَ : أَلَا أُرِيكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : فَقُلْنَا : بَلَى ، قَالَ : " فَقَامَ فَكَبَّرَ ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ ، فَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ حَتَّى أَخَذَ كُلُّ عُضْوٍ مَأْخَذَهُ ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ حَتَّى أَخَذَ كُلُّ عُضْوٍ مَأْخَذَهُ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ حَتَّى أَخَذَ كُلُّ عُضْوٍ مَأْخَذَهُ ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ حَتَّى أَخَذَ كُلُّ عَظْمٍ مَأْخَذَهُ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ حَتَّى أَخَذَ كُلُّ عَظْمٍ مَأْخَذَهُ ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ ، فَصَنَعَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ كَمَا صَنَعَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : هَكَذَا صَلَاةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Qasim says that once we were sitting with Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abzi. He said, "Shall I not show you how the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to pray?" We said, "Why not." So he stood up, said the takbeer, recited (Qur'an), then bowed (ruku') and placed both hands on his knees until every bone settled in its place. Then he raised his head and stood for so long that every limb became steady in its place. In the same way, he performed both prostrations (sujood) and sat between them, and while standing, he performed the second rak'ah just like the first. And he said, "The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to pray like this."
