حَدِیث تَمَّامِ بنِ العَبَّاسِ بنِ عَبدِ المطَّلِبِ عَن النَّبِیِّ صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَیهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hadith of Tamam ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib from the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 1835
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الزَّرَّادِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ تَمَّامِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : أَتَوْا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ أُتِيَ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا لِي أَرَاكُمْ تَأْتُونِي قُلْحًا ؟ اسْتَاكُوا ، لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي ، لَفَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ السِّوَاكَ كَمَا فَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ الْوُضُوءَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Tamam bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once some people came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "What is the matter? I see your teeth are yellowish. Use the miswak. If I did not fear hardship for my ummah, I would have made the use of miswak obligatory for them just as I have made wudu obligatory."
Hadith 1836
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُفُّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ , وَعُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ وَكَثِيرًا مِن بَنِي الْعَبَّاسِ ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ " مَنْ سَبَقَ إِلَيَّ ، فَلَهُ كَذَا وَكَذَا " ، قَالَ : فَيَسْتَبِقُونَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَيَقَعُونَ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ وَصَدْرِهِ ، فَيُقَبِّلُهُمْ وَيَلْزَمُهُمْ .
Abdullah bin Harith narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would make Abdullah, Ubaidullah, and Kathir—the sons of Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)—stand in a row and would say, "Whoever comes to me first will get such and such." So they would all run towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), some falling on his back and some falling on his blessed chest, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would love them and embrace them with his body.
