Ya'la bin Uqbah got married in the month of Ramadan. He spent the night with his wife, and in the morning he was in a state of janabah. He met Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about this issue. He (Abu Hurairah) said: Do not fast. Ya'la said: Should I not fast today and intend to make it up on another day? He replied: Do not fast. Then Ya'la went to Marwan and narrated this incident to him. Marwan sent Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman to Umm al-Mu'mineen to ask about this issue. She said: Sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would also be in a state of janabah in the morning, and that was not due to a wet dream, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would fast. The messenger came back to Marwan and informed him of this. Marwan said to Ya'la: Go and inform Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) of this. Ya'la said: He is my neighbor. Marwan said: I swear to you that you must meet him and inform him of this. So Ya'la met him and narrated this hadith to him. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I did not hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) myself, but Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) informed me of it. The narrator says: Later I met Raja and asked him: Who narrated this hadith of Ya'la to you? He replied: Ya'la himself narrated this hadith to me.
