It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) brought some guests. He himself spent the evening with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When he returned at night, his wife said to him, "Tonight, where were you, forgetting your guests?" He replied, "Did you not give them dinner?" She said, "No! I brought the food before them, but they themselves refused to eat." At this, he became upset and swore that he would not eat the food. The guests also swore that they would not eat until Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) ate. When the situation reached this point, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "This is from Satan." Then he had the food brought, ate himself, and the guests also ate. Whenever they picked up a morsel, more was added from beneath it. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed his wife and said, "O sister of Banu Firas! What is this matter?" She said, "O coolness of my eyes! This has become even more than the original amount." So all of them ate this food, and it was also sent to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the narrator mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also partook of this food.

Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that once we were one hundred and thirty men with the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Does anyone among you have any food?" A man produced a sa’ (measure) of flour, which was kneaded. Meanwhile, a big, healthy, tall polytheist came driving a goat. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked him, "Have you brought this to sell or as a gift?" He said, "To sell." The Prophet (peace be upon him) bought the goat from him and it too was prepared. On that occasion, the Prophet (peace be upon him) also ordered that its liver be roasted. By Allah! Not one of the one hundred and thirty men was left except that the Prophet (peace be upon him) cut a piece of the liver and gave it to him. Those who were present received it at that time, and for those who were not present, it was saved for them. Then food was served in two large bowls. We all ate and ate to our fill, but still some was left in the bowls. We loaded it onto our camel.

Did you not ask for more than this? He replied: “I did ask, upon which Allah granted me, with each of them, a further seventy thousand.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) again submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Did you not ask for more than this? He replied: “I did ask, upon which Allah granted me even more individuals.” Saying this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spread out his hands, and the narrator explains that this is such a great number that none knows it except Allah.

Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in my house, besides me, my parents (and probably my wife was also mentioned), and a servant who was shared among us, lived. That day, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) spent the evening with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When he returned at night, his mother said to him, "Where were you tonight, forgetting your guests?" He replied, "Did you not feed them dinner?" She said, "No! I brought the food before them, but they themselves refused to eat. I went and hid in a place." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) called out to me harshly, then said to the guests, "Eat, you did not do well," and swore that he would not eat the food. The guests also swore that they would not eat until Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) ate. When the matter reached this point, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "This is from Satan." Then he had the food brought, ate himself, and the guests also ate. Whenever they picked up a morsel, more was added from below, until they were all satisfied and more food was left than before. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed his wife and said, "O sister of Banu Firas! What is this matter?" She said, "O coolness of my eyes! This has become three times more than the original amount." So they all ate this food and also sent some to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator mentioned that there was a treaty between us and a certain tribe, its term ended, and we appointed twelve chiefs, each of whom had some people with him, whose exact number only Allah knows, but it is clear that they were also included with them, and all of them also ate from this food.
Hadith 1713
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Companions of Suffa were poor people. On one occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has food for two people should take a third with him, and whoever has food for four should take a fifth or sixth with him." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) took three people with him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took ten individuals with him. Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in my house, besides myself, there were my parents, (he probably also mentioned his wife), and a servant who was shared among us.
