حَدِيثُ جُدَامَةَ بِنْتِ وَهْبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا
Hadith of Judamah bint Wahb (may Allah be pleased with her)
Hadith 27447
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ , حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْأَسْوَدِ , عَنْ عُرْوَةَ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ , عَنْ جُدَامَةَ بِنْتِ وَهْبٍ أُخْتِ عُكَّاشَةَ , قَالَتْ : حَضَرْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَاسٍ , وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَنْهَى عَنِ الْغِيلَةِ , فَنَظَرْتُ فِي الرُّومِ وَفَارِسَ , فَإِذَا هُمْ يُغِيلُونَ أَوْلَادَهُمْ , وَلَا يَضُرُّ أَوْلَادَهُمْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا " , ثُمَّ سَأَلُوهُ عَنِ الْعَزْلِ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ذَاكَ الْوَأْدُ الْخَفِيُّ , وَهُوَ وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Judamah bint Wahb (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was about to prohibit men from approaching their wives during the period of breastfeeding, but then I was informed that the people of Persia and Rome do so, yet their children are not harmed by it (therefore, I abandoned this intention)."
