حَدِيثُ أُمِّ مَعْقِلٍ الْأَسَدِيَّةِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا
Hadith of Umm Ma'qil al-Asadiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her)
Hadith 27285
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ , وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُصْعَبٍ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ , عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ , عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ , عَنْ أُمِّ مَعْقِلٍ الْأَسَدِيَّةِ , أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الْحَجَّ ، وَجَمَلِي أَعْجَفُ ، فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِي ؟ قَالَ : " اعْتَمِرِي فِي رَمَضَانَ ، فَإِنَّ عُمْرَةً فِي رَمَضَانَ تَعْدِلُ حَجَّةً " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) that once my mother intended to perform Hajj, but her camel was very weak. When this matter was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: Perform Umrah in Ramadan, for performing Umrah in Ramadan is like Hajj.
Hadith 27286
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ , وَحَجَّاجٌ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ , عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ , عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ , قَالَ : أَرْسَلَ مَرْوَانُ إِلَى أُمِّ مَعْقِلٍ الْأَسَدِيَّةِ يَسْأَلُهَا عَنْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ , فَحَدَّثَتْهُ أَنَّ زَوْجَهَا جَعَلَ بَكْرًا لَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ , وَأَنَّهَا أَرَادَتْ الْعُمْرَةَ , فَسَأَلَتْ زَوْجَهَا الْبَكْرَ , فَأَبَى فَأَتَتْ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَأَمَرَهُ , أَنْ يُعْطِيَهَا ، وَقَالَ النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْحَجُّ وَالْعُمْرَةُ مِنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ " , وَقَالَ : " عُمْرَةٌ فِي رَمَضَانَ تَعْدِلُ حَجَّةً ، أَوْ تُجْزِئُ حَجَّةً " .
The messenger of Marwan, whom Marwan had sent to Umm Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with her), says that Umm Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Abu Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) had a young camel. She asked her husband for it so that she could perform 'Umrah on it, but he said, "You know that I have dedicated it in the way of Allah." Umm Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with her) went to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Hajj is obligatory upon me, and Abu Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) has a young camel (but he does not give it to me)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give her the camel so she may go for Hajj, for that too is in the way of Allah." And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Performing 'Umrah in Ramadan will suffice for your Hajj."
Hadith 27287
وَقَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : " تَعْدِلُ بِحَجَّةٍ , أَوْ تُجْزِئُ بِحَجَّةٍ " , حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ , عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ , عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْقُرَشِيِّ , عَنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ أَبِي مَعْقِلٍ , أَنَّ أُمَّهُ أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَتْ : فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 27288
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ , عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ , عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدِ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، يُقَالُ لَهَا : أُمُّ مَعْقِلٍ ، قَالَتْ : أَرَدْتُ الْحَجَّ فَضَلَّ بَعِيرِي , فَسَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ : " اعْتَمِرِي فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ , فَإِنَّ عُمْرَةً فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ تَعْدِلُ حَجَّةً " .

Hadith 27289
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي , عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ , عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , قَالَ : كُنْتُ فِيمَنْ رَكِبَ مَعَ مَرْوَانَ حِينَ رَكِبَ إِلَى أُمِّ مَعْقِلٍ , قَالَ : وَكُنْتُ فِيمَنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا مِنَ النَّاسِ مَعَهُ , وَسَمِعْتُهَا حِينَ حَدَّثَتْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ .
Harith bin Abi Bakr narrates from his father that when Marwan rode to visit Umm Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with her), I was among those who accompanied him and among those who were present in her service, and when she narrated this hadith, I also heard it.
Hadith 27290
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ , عَنْ يَحْيَى , عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ , عَنْ مَعْقِلِ ابْنِ أُمِّ مَعْقِلٍ الأَسَدِيَّةِ , قالَتْ : أَرَدْتُ الْحَجَّ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ , عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ.
The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 27291
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ , عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ , عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ , عَنْ أَبِي مَعْقِلٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ مَعْقِلٍ , أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ : " عُمْرَةٌ فِي رَمَضَانَ تَعْدِلُ حَجَّةً " .

Hadith 27292
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ , قَالَ : أخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ , قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى الْأَنْصَارِيُّ , عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ مَوْلَى ثَعْلَبَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ , عَنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ أَبِي مَعْقِلٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , حَدَّثَهُ , أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى أَنْ تُسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَتَانِ لِلْغَائِطِ وَالْبَوْلِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from facing the Qiblah while urinating or defecating.
