Hadith of Mu'ammar ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 27247
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْعَدَوِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَحْتَكِرُ إِلَّا خَاطِئٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Muammar bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Only a sinful person hoards (goods).
Hadith 27248
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ , أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ , عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ , عَنْ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نَضْلَةَ الْقُرَشِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , يَقُولُ : " لَا يَحْتَكِرُ إِلَّا خَاطِئٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Muammar bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: Only a sinful person hoards (goods).
Hadith 27249
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ مَوْلَى مَعْمَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نَافِعِ بْنِ نَضْلَةَ الْعَدَوِيِّ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ أَرْحَلُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لِي لَيْلَةً مِنَ اللَّيَالِي : " يَا مَعْمَرُ ، لَقَدْ وَجَدْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ فِي أَنْسَاعِي اضْطِرَابًا ؟ " , قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : أَمَا وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ ، لَقَدْ شَدَدْتُهَا كَمَا كُنْتُ أَشُدُّهَا ، وَلَكِنَّهُ أَرْخَاهَا مَنْ قَدْ كَانَ نَفَسَ عَلَيَّ لِمَكَانِي مِنْكَ ، لِتَسْتَبْدِلَ بِي غَيْرِي ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " أَمَا إِنِّي غَيْرُ فَاعِلٍ " ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا نَحَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَدْيَهُ بِمِنًى ، أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَحْلِقَهُ ، قَالَ : فَأَخَذْتُ الْمُوسَى ، فَقُمْتُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ، قَالَ : فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي وَجْهِي ، وَقَالَ لِي : " يَا مَعْمَرُ ، أَمْكَنَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ شَحْمَةِ أُذُنِهِ وَفِي يَدِكَ الْمُوسَى " , قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَمِنْ نِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ عَلَيَّ وَمَنِّهِ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " أَجَلْ إِذًا أُقِرُّ لَكَ " ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ حَلَقْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Muammar bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the journey of Hajjatul Wada’, I used to prepare the mount of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) myself. One night, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, “Muammar! Tonight I felt the rope of my mount was loose.” I replied, “By the One Who sent you with the truth! I tied the rope just as I usually do, but perhaps the person who was near you in my place loosened it so that you might replace me with someone else.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “But I am not one to do such a thing.” When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had slaughtered the sacrificial animals in the plain of Mina, he ordered me to shave his head. I took the razor and stood near the blessed head of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at me and said, “Muammar! The Messenger of Allah has given the lobe of his ear into your hand, and there is a razor in your hand.” I said, “By Allah! O Messenger of Allah! This is Allah’s favor and kindness upon me.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Alright, I will keep you upon this.” Then I shaved the hair of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) head.
Hadith 27250
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ , أَنَّ بُسْرَ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَهُ , عَنْ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ : أَنَّهُ أَرْسَلَ غُلَامًا لَهُ بِصَاعٍ مِنْ قَمْحٍ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : بِعْهُ , ثُمَّ اشْتَرِ بِهِ شَعِيرًا ، فَذَهَبَ الْغُلَامُ فَأَخَذَ صَاعًا وَزِيَادَةَ بَعْضِ صَاعٍ ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ مَعْمَرًا ، أَخْبَرَهُ بِذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ مَعْمَرٌ : أَفَعَلْتَ ؟ انْطَلِقْ فَرُدَّهُ ، وَلَا تَأْخُذْ إِلَّا مِثْلًا بِمِثْلٍ , فَإِنِّي كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , يَقُولُ : " الطَّعَامُ بِالطَّعَامِ مِثْلًا بِمِثْلٍ " ، وَكَانَ طَعَامُنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ الشَّعِيرَ ، قِيلَ : فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِثْلَهُ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يُضَارِعَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Muammar (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he gave one of his slaves a sa’ (a measure) of wheat and said, "Sell it and buy barley with whatever money you get." The slave went and brought back a sa’ and a little more, and informed Hazrat Muammar (may Allah be pleased with him) about it. Hazrat Muammar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "Did you really do this? Take it back and return it, and only make an equal-for-equal transaction, because I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say that food should be exchanged for food in equal measure, and in those days our food was barley." Someone said, "This is not its equivalent." He replied, "I fear that it is similar to it."
Hadith 27251
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرٌو ، أَنَّ أَبَا النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَهُ , أَنَّ بُسْرَ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
The previous hadith is narrated through this second chain of transmission.
