Hadith of Hamnah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her)
Hadith 27144
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ حَمْنَةَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ ، قَالَتْ : أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : إِنِّي قَدْ اسْتَحَضْتُ حَيْضَةً مُنْكَرَةً شَدِيدَةً ، فَقَالَ : " احْتَشِي كُرْسُفًا " ، قُلْتُ : إِنَّهُ أَشَدُّ مِنْ ذَاكَ ، إِنِّي أَثُجُّهُ ثَجًّا ، قَالَ : " تَلَجَّمِي ، وَتَحَيَّضِي فِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ فِي عِلْمِ اللَّهِ سِتَّةَ أَيَّامٍ ، أَوْ سَبْعَةَ أَيَّامٍ ، ثُمَّ اغْتَسِلِي غُسْلًا ، وَصُومِي , وَصَلِّي ثَلَاثًا وَعِشْرِينَ ، أَوْ أَرْبَعًا وَعِشْرِينَ ، وَاغْتَسِلِي لِلْفَجْرِ غُسْلًا , وَأَخِّرِي الظُّهْرَ , وَعَجِّلِي الْعَصْرَ , وَاغْتَسِلِي غُسْلًا ، وَأَخِّرِي الْمَغْرِبَ ، وَعَجِّلِي الْعِشَاءَ ، وَاغْتَسِلِي غُسْلًا ، وَهَذَا أَحَبُّ الْأَمْرَيْنِ إِلَيَّ " , وَلَمْ يَقُلْ يَزِيدُ مَرَّةً : " وَاغْتَسِلِي لِلْفَجْرِ غُسْلًا ".
It is narrated from Hazrat Hamnah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) that once I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said that I experience very severe menstrual bleeding. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Use a cloth." I said that it is more severe than that (it does not stop with a cloth), and I am flowing like a stream. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In that case, count six or seven days each month as your menstrual days according to Allah's knowledge, then perform ghusl and for the next 23 or 24 days, continue to perform prayers and fasts. And arrange it in such a way that you perform ghusl once for the Fajr prayer, then delay Zuhr and bring Asr forward and perform both prayers with one ghusl, then delay Maghrib and bring Isha forward and perform both prayers with one ghusl. I prefer this method over the other method."
