حَدِيثُ أُمِّ مَعْقِلٍ الْأَسَدِيَّةِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا
Hadith of Umm Ma‘qil al-Asadiyya (may Allah be pleased with her)
Hadith 27106
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيد ، عَنْ هِشَام ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مَعْقِلِ ابْنِ أُمِّ مَعْقِلٍ ، عن أمِّ معقل الْأَسَدِيَّة ، قَالت : أَرَادَتْ أُمِّي الْحَجَّ ، وَكَانَ جَمَلُهَا أَعْجَفَ ، فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ : " اعْتَمِرِي فِي رَمَضَانَ ، فَإِنَّ عُمْرَةً فِي رَمَضَانَ كَحَجَّةٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) that once my mother intended to perform Hajj, but her camel was very weak. When this matter was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: Perform Umrah in Ramadan, for performing Umrah in Ramadan is like Hajj.
Hadith 27107
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُهَاجِرٍ , عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، قَال : أَخْبَرَنِي رَسُولُ مَرْوَانَ الَّذِي أُرْسِلَ إِلَى أُمِّ مَعْقِل ، قَالَ : قَالَتْ : جَاءَ أَبُو مَعْقِلٍ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَاجًّا ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ أَبُو مَعْقِل ، قَالَ : قَالَتْ أُمُّ مَعْقِلٍ : قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ عَلَيَّ حَجَّة ، وَأَنَّ عِنْدَكَ بَكْرًا ، فَأَعْطِنِي , فَلْأَحُجَّ عَلَيْهِ ، قَال : فَقَالَ لَهَا : إِنَّكِ قَدْ عَلِمْتِ أَنِّي قَدْ جَعَلْتُهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَتْ : فَأَعْطِنِي صِرَامَ نَخْلِكَ ، قَال : قَدْ عَلِمْتِ أَنَّهُ قُوتُ أَهْلِي ، قَالَتْ : فَإِنِّي مُكَلِّمَةٌ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَذَاكِرتُهُ لهَ ، قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقَا يَمْشِيَانِ حَتَّى دَخَلَا عَلَيْهِ ، قَال : فَقَالَتْ لَهُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّه ، إِنَّ عَلَيَّ حَجَّةً ، وَإِنَّ لِأَبِي مَعْقِلٍ بَكْرًا ، قَالَ أَبُو مَعْقِلٍ : صَدَقَتْ ، جَعَلْتُهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّه ، قَالَ : " أَعْطِهَا فَلْتَحُجَّ عَلَيْه ، فَإِنَّهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّه " ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا أَعْطَاهَ الْبَكْرَ ، قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّه ، إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ قَدْ كَبِرْتُ وَسَقِمْتُ ، فَهَلْ مِنْ عَمَلٍ يُجْزِئُ عَنِّي عَنْ حَجَّتِي ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " عُمْرَةٌ فِي رَمَضَانَ تُجْزِئُ لِحَجَّتِكِ " .
The messenger of Marwan, whom Marwan had sent to Umm Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with her), says that Umm Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When Abu Ma'qil returned after performing Hajj with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I said to him: You know that Hajj is obligatory upon me. You have a young camel; give it to me so that I may ride it and perform Hajj. He said: You know that I have dedicated it in the way of Allah. Umm Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Then at least give me the dates cut from your tree. He said: You know that they are the sustenance for my family. Umm Ma'qil said: I will speak to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this and tell him the whole matter. So both of them went on foot to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Umm Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! Hajj is obligatory upon me, and Abu Ma'qil has a young camel (but he does not give it to me). Abu Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) said: She is telling the truth, but I have dedicated it in the way of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give her that camel so she may go for Hajj, for that too is in the way of Allah." When Abu Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) handed over the camel to her, Umm Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! I have become very old and I remain ill; is there any deed that will suffice in place of Hajj? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Performing 'Umrah in Ramadan will suffice for you in place of Hajj."
