Hadith 27015
Abdullah bin Muhammad says that once Imam Zain al-Abidin, may Allah have mercy on him, sent me to Hazrat Rabi’, may Allah be pleased with her. I asked her about the method of ablution (wudu) of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. She took out a vessel which would be equal to a mudd or a little more than a mudd, and said that I used to pour water for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in this vessel. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would first pour water over both his hands, then wash his face three times, rinse his mouth three times, put water into his nose three times, wash his right hand three times and his left hand three times, wipe his head from front to back, then wash his feet three times. Your cousin, i.e., Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, also came to me to ask the same question, and I gave him the same answer, but he said to me that in the Book of Allah I find the command to wipe over two things and to wash two things.
