Musnad Ahmad

Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Abdullah ibn Ka'b ibn Malik, from his uncle, "That Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf used to satirize the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, so the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered Sa'd ibn Mu'adh to send five men to him. They came to him while he was in the gathering of his people in al-'Awali. When he saw them, he was alarmed by them and said: What has brought you? They said: We have come to you for a need. He said: Let some of you come near me and tell me his need. So some of them approached him and said: We have come to sell you Adru' Laba (a type of armor). He said: By Allah, if you do so, you have struggled since this man settled among you, or he said: with you. So they made an appointment with him to come to him after a part of the night had passed. They came to him, and he stood up to them. His wife said to him: These people have not come to you at this hour for anything you like. He said: They have told me their need. When he drew near to them, Abu Abs embraced him, and Muhammad ibn Maslama struck him with the sword and stabbed him in his side, and they killed him. When morning came, the Jews went to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: Our leader has been killed treacherously. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, reminded them of what he used to satirize him with in his poetry and how he used to harm him. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, called them to write a document between him and them. He said: That document was with Ali."

Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, from Ma'mar, he said: al-Zuhri said: Ibn Ka'b ibn Malik informed me, from his uncle, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he sent [an expedition] to Ibn Abi al-Huqayq at Khaybar, "forbade the killing of women and children."

Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Ibn Ka'b, and he mentioned something similar.
