Musnad Ahmad

Yunus narrated to us, Abu Ma’shar narrated to us, from ‘Abd al-Wahhab, from ‘Amr ibn Shurahbil ibn Sa’id ibn Sa’d ibn ‘Ubadah, who reports, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: Sa’d ibn ‘Ubadah was present with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Messenger of Allah, if I found a man on my wife’s belly, should I strike him with my sword? He said: “What evidence is clearer than the sword?!” He said: Then he retracted his statement and said: “The Book of Allah and the witnesses.” Sa’d said: O Messenger of Allah, what evidence is clearer than the sword? He said: “The Book of Allah and the witnesses. O assembly of the Ansar, this is your chief whom jealousy has provoked until he opposed the Book of Allah.” A man said: O Messenger of Allah, Sa’d is very jealous, and he never divorced a woman such that any one of us could marry her due to his jealousy. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Sa’d is jealous, and I am more jealous than him, and Allah is more jealous than me.” A man said: Over what does Allah feel jealousy? He said: “Over a man who strives in the way of Allah and someone goes to his family in his absence.”

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed us, from Yaqub ibn Abdullah ibn al-Ashajj, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, from Sa'id ibn Sa'd ibn 'Ubada, who said: There was among our houses a weak, sick, deformed little man, and the people were surprised to find him with one of their slave women, behaving lewdly with her. Sa'd ibn 'Ubada mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and that little man was a Muslim. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Administer to him the prescribed punishment." They said: O Messenger of Allah, he is weaker than that; if we strike him a hundred times, we will kill him! He said: "Take for him a bundle containing a hundred twigs, then strike him with it once." He said: So they did.
