Shaddad Abu Ammar says that once Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O plague! Take hold of me." People asked, "Did you hear the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say that however long a Muslim lives, it is better for him?" He replied, "Why not, but I fear six things: the rule of fools, justice being sold, widespread gambling, severing of family ties, the rise of a generation that will make the Qur'an into a musical instrument, and bloodshed."

It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I sought permission from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to enter the house and asked, "Should I come in completely or half?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Come in completely." So I went inside. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing ablution excellently at that time. He said to me, "O Awf bin Malik! Count six things before the Day of Judgment comes: First, the passing away of your Prophet; then, the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis; then, a plague of death will spread among you just as it spreads among sheep; then, the appearance of tribulations; and wealth will increase so much that even if a man is given a hundred dinars, he will still be displeased; then, under banners—under each banner will be an army of twelve thousand—the Romans will come to fight you."

Once, Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) and Dhu’l-Kila’ entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque, that is, Bayt al-Maqdis. Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, “You have your nephew (Ka’b Ahbar) with you.” Dhu’l-Kila’ said, “He is the best man among all people.” Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I bear witness that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Only he may deliver admonition who is a leader, or has been given its command and permission, or else he is being pretentious (showing off).”
Hadith 23973
Shaddad Abu Ammar reports that once Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O plague! Take hold of me." The people asked, "Did you hear the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say that however much life a Muslim is granted, it is better for him?" He replied, "Why not..." Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith.
Hadith 23974
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Only he can deliver admonition who is an amir (leader), or has been ordered and permitted to do so, or else he is being pretentious (showing off).

It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) leading the funeral prayer for a deceased person, and I understood this supplication of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, and pardon him. Make his abode an honorable place. Widen his place of entry (the grave). Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Grant him a home better than his home, a family better than his family, and a wife better than his wife. Admit him into Paradise, protect him from Hell, and grant him salvation from the punishment of the grave.

It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us, and in his blessed hand was a staff. At that time, some bunches of dates were hanging in the mosque, among which there were also some unripe dates in one bunch. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shook it with his staff and said, "If the one giving charity wished, he could have given more than this in charity. This person who gave charity will eat unripe dates on the Day of Resurrection." Then, turning towards us, he said, "By Allah, O people of Madinah! You will leave this city of Madinah for birds and beasts for forty years."

It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would camp at any place, his Muhajir companions (may Allah be pleased with them) would be close to him. Once, we camped at a place and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up for the night prayer while we were sleeping around. Suddenly, I woke up at night and did not find the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his sleeping place. I went out in search of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and saw Hazrat Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) and Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him). I reached them and asked about the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Suddenly, we heard a sound like that produced by a millstone, and we stopped in our tracks. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was coming from the direction of that sound. When he came near, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What happened to you?" We replied, "When we woke up and did not find you in your place, we feared that some harm might have come to you, so we set out to search for you." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "A messenger from my Lord came to me and gave me the choice between two things: that half of my Ummah would enter Paradise, or that I would be granted the right of intercession. So I preferred the aspect of intercession." We both said, "O Messenger of Allah! We ask you, by Islam and the right of your companionship, to pray to Allah that He includes us in your intercession." Other people also arrived and began making the same request, and their number increased. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Every person who dies in such a state that he does not associate anyone with Allah will be included in my intercession."

It is narrated from Hazrat Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we set out on a military expedition and our leader was Hazrat Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with him). We were afflicted by hunger. During this time, we passed by a people who had slaughtered a camel. I said to the people, "I will bring you its meat on the condition that you will also let me eat from it." So I picked it up. Then, taking the portion they gave me, I went to Hazrat Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him), but he refused to eat it. Then I took it to Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him), but he said the same as Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and refused to eat it. Then, on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah, I presented it to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Are you the one with the camel?" I replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say anything more to me than this.

The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) first used the miswak, then performed ablution, and stood up for prayer. I also stood with him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began Surah Al-Baqarah, and whenever he passed by a verse of mercy, he would pause and supplicate, and whenever he passed by a verse of punishment, he would pause and seek refuge from it. Then he bowed for as long as he had stood, and in bowing he kept saying, "Subhana Dhil-Jabarooti wal-Malakooti wal-Kibriya'i wal-Azamah (Glory be to the Possessor of Power, Dominion, Majesty, and Greatness)." Then in the second rak'ah, he recited Surah Aal-e-Imran and did likewise in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) decided a case between two men. The one against whom the decision was made, while returning, said, "Hasbiyallahu wa ni'mal wakeel." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Call that man back to me and ask him what he just said." He replied, "I said, 'Hasbiyallahu wa ni'mal wakeel.'" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Allah reproaches foolishness; you should act with wisdom. Even then, if you are overpowered, then say, 'Hasbiyallahu wa ni'mal wakeel.'"

It is narrated from Hazrat Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was going somewhere and I was with him. It was a festival day of the Jews. As we walked, we reached one of their synagogues in Medina. They did not like our coming there. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O group of Jews! Show me twelve men among you who bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His Messenger. Allah will remove from all the Jews living under the sky the wrath that is imposed upon them." But they remained silent, and none of them replied. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this statement before them three times, yet no one responded.
The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You people deny, even though, by Allah! I am the Hasher, I am the Aqib, I am the chosen Prophet, whether you believe or deny." Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned back, and I was with him. We were just about to leave that synagogue when a man called out from behind, "O Muhammad! Wait." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards him. That person addressed the Jews and said, "O group of Jews! What status do you consider me to have among you?" They said, "By God! Among us, we do not consider anyone more knowledgeable or learned in the Book of Allah than you, and the same was our opinion about your forefathers before you." He said, "Then I bear witness before Allah that this is indeed the Prophet of Allah whose mention you find in the Torah." They said, "You speak falsely," and began to criticize him.
The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to those Jews, "You are lying. Your statement cannot be accepted in any way. Just now you praised him greatly, and when he believed, you began to deny him and say inappropriate things about him. Therefore, your statement cannot be accepted in any way." So, when we left there, we became three: the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), myself, and Hazrat Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him). On this occasion, Allah revealed this verse: "Say: Tell me, if this Qur'an is from Allah and you deny it, and a witness from among the Children of Israel testifies to it and believes, while you act arrogantly—surely Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people."

At that time, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing ablution excellently. He said to me, "O Awf bin Malik! Count six things before the Day of Judgment comes: First, the passing away of your Prophet; then the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis; then a plague of death will spread among you just as it spreads among sheep; then the appearance of tribulations; and wealth will increase so much that if a man is given a hundred dinars, he will still be displeased; then the Romans will come to fight you under eighty banners, under each banner will be twelve thousand troops, and the center of the Muslims at that time will be in the city of Ghouta in Damascus."

It is narrated from Hazrat Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever spoils of war would come to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he would distribute them on the same day. He would give two shares to a married man and one share to an unmarried man. On one occasion, we were called; I used to be called before Hazrat Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him). So that day too, I was called, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me two shares because I was married. After that, Hazrat Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) was called and he was given one share. In the end, a gold chain was left. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would lift it with the tip of his staff, it would fall, then he would lift it again, and he kept saying: "What will your condition be when you have abundance of such things?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that we participated in a military expedition towards Syria, and our commander was Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him). A man from the tribe of Himyar joined us and began staying in our tent. He had nothing with him except a sword and no other belongings or weapons. During this time, a Muslim slaughtered a camel. That man kept watching for an opportunity until he managed to obtain a piece of its hide equal to the size of a shield and spread it on the ground. When it dried, it became a shield for him.
Meanwhile, we encountered the enemy, among whom were Romans and the Arab tribe of Banu Quda'ah, who had gathered together. They fought us fiercely. Among the Romans was a man riding a red and white horse, whose saddle was of gold and his belt was also mixed with gold, as was his sword. He was attacking the Muslims with great vigor, and the Himyari man was constantly watching for an opportunity against him. When that Roman passed by him, he came out from behind and attacked him, striking the horse's leg with his sword, causing the Roman to fall. Then he struck such a powerful blow with his sword that he killed the Roman.
After victory, when he intended to take the Roman's belongings and people testified that he was the one who killed the Roman, Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) gave him some of the belongings and withheld some. The man returned to the tent of Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned the incident to him. Awf said, "You should go back to him; he should give you your belongings." So he went again to Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), but he refused again. Awf said, "Will he get it?" He replied, "Why not?" Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Then what is stopping you from handing over the slain man's belongings to him?" Hazrat Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I consider it too much." Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "If I get to see the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I will surely mention this to him."
When they reached Madinah and came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of the matter, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him), "Who stopped you from giving him the belongings?" Hazrat Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "O Messenger of Allah! I considered it too much." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Give him the belongings." Then, as he passed by Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), Awf pulled Hazrat Khalid's cloak and said, "What I mentioned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has happened, hasn't it?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this and became displeased. Then he said, "O Khalid! Now do not give it to him." (And he said,) "Can you not leave my appointed officers alone? Your and their example is like a man who bought camels or goats to graze, then brought them to the pond at the time of drinking, and they began to drink. The clear water they drank, and they left the dregs. So the good things are for you, and the bad things are for the caretakers."
Hadith 23988
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) and Khalid bin Waleed (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not take out a fifth (khums) from the spoils taken from the slain.
Hadith 23989
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Allah Almighty will never combine two swords upon this Ummah—one belonging to this Ummah itself and the other belonging to its enemy.

It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked towards the sky and then said, "The time for knowledge to be taken away is near." An Ansari man, whose name was Ziyad bin Labid, said, "O Messenger of Allah! Will knowledge be taken away from among us while the Book of Allah is present among us, and we have taught it to our sons and women?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I thought you were among the intelligent people of Madinah." Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the misguidance of the People of the Book and that they too had the Book of Allah with them. After this, Jubair bin Nufair met Shaddad bin Aws at the Eidgah, so Jubair narrated this hadith to him from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also confirmed Hazrat Awf's narration and said, "Do you know what is meant by the taking away of knowledge?" I said, "No." He said, "The removal of the vessels of knowledge." Then he asked, "Do you know which knowledge will be taken away first?" I said, "No." He said, "Khushu' (humility and devotion), until you will not see a single person with khushu'."
Hadith 23991
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has three or two daughters or sisters, and he fears Allah regarding them and treats them well until they are married or they pass away, then they will become a barrier for him from the fire of Hell.
Hadith 23992
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Only he may deliver admonition who is a leader, or has been ordered and permitted to do so, or else one who is being pretentious (showing off).
Hadith 23993
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I, along with a group of six, seven, or eight men, presented ourselves before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to us, "Pledge allegiance to me." We said, "O Messenger of Allah! We have already pledged allegiance to you." The Prophet (peace be upon him) repeated the same request, so we pledged allegiance again. The Prophet (peace be upon him) took from us the same covenant that he took from the general people, but at the end, he softly said, "Do not ask people for anything."
Hadith 23994
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Only he may deliver admonition who is a leader, or has been ordered and permitted to do so, or else one who is being pretentious (showing off).

At that time, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing ablution excellently. He said to me, "O Awf bin Malik! Count six things before the Day of Judgment comes: First, the death of your Prophet will occur; then, Bait al-Maqdis will be conquered; then, a plague of death will spread among you just as it spreads among sheep; then, the appearance of tribulations; and wealth will increase so much that if a man is given a hundred dinars, he will still remain dissatisfied; then, the Romans will come to fight you under eighty banners, under each banner will be an army of twelve thousand."

He had nothing with him except a sword, no other belongings or weapons. During this time, a Muslim slaughtered a camel. That man kept watching for an opportunity until he managed to obtain a piece of its hide equal to the size of a shield, and he spread it on the ground. When it dried, it became a shield for him.
Meanwhile, we encountered the enemy, among whom were Romans and the Arab tribe of Banu Quda’ah, who had gathered together. They fought us fiercely. Among the Romans was a man riding a red and white horse, whose saddle was of gold and his belt was also mixed with gold, as was his sword. He was attacking the Muslims with great vigor, and the Himyari man was constantly watching for an opportunity against him. When that Roman passed by him, he came out from behind and attacked him, striking the horse’s leg with his sword, causing the Roman to fall. Then he struck such a powerful blow with his sword that he killed the Roman.
After victory, when he intended to take the Roman’s belongings, and people testified that he was the one who killed the Roman, Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) gave him some of the belongings and withheld some. The man returned to the tent of Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned the incident to him. Awf said, “Go back to him again; he should give you your belongings.” So he went again to Hazrat Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), but he refused again. Upon this, Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Will you get it?” He replied, “Why not?” Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Then what is stopping you from handing over the belongings of the slain to him?” Hazrat Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I consider it too much.” Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “If I am able to see the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I will surely mention this to him.”
When they reached Madinah and came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of the matter, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him), “Who stopped you from giving him the belongings?” Hazrat Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “O Messenger of Allah! I considered it too much.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Give him the belongings.” Then, as he passed by Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), Awf pulled Khalid’s cloak and said, “What I mentioned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has happened, hasn’t it?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this and became displeased. Then he said, “O Khalid! Now do not give it to him.” (And he said,) “Can you not leave my commanders alone? For your example and theirs is like a man who bought camels or goats to graze, then, seeing the time for them to drink, brought them to a pond. They began to drink, and they drank the clear water and left the dregs. So the good things are for you, and the bad things are for the commanders.”
Hadith 23998
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us, and in his blessed hand was a staff. At that time, some bunches of dates were hanging in the mosque, among which there was a bunch containing unripe dates. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shook it with his staff and said, "If the one giving charity wished, he could have given more than this. This person who gave charity will eat unripe dates on the Day of Resurrection."

However, if a ruler appoints a governor over you and you see him doing something in disobedience to Allah, then denounce that disobedience, but do not withdraw your hand from his obedience."
Hadith 24000
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) leading the funeral prayer for a deceased person, and I understood this supplication of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, and pardon him. Make his abode an honorable place. Widen his place of entry (the grave). Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Grant him a better home than his home, better family than his family, and a better wife than his wife. Admit him into Paradise, protect him from Hell, and grant him salvation from the punishment of the grave."

It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would camp at any place, his Muhajir companions (may Allah be pleased with them) would be close to him. Once, we camped at a place and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up for the night prayer while we were sleeping around. Suddenly, I woke up at night and did not find the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in his sleeping place. I went out in search of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and saw Hazrat Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) and Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him). I reached them and asked about the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Suddenly, we heard a sound like that of a grinding mill and stopped in our tracks. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was coming from the direction of that sound. When he came near, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What happened to you?" We replied, "When we woke up and did not find you in your place, we feared that some harm might have come to you, so we set out to search for you." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "A messenger from my Lord came to me and gave me the choice between two things: that half of my Ummah would enter Paradise or that I would be granted the right of intercession. So I preferred the aspect of intercession." We both said, "O Messenger of Allah! We ask you, by Islam and the right of your companionship, to pray to Allah that He includes us in your intercession." Others also came and began to make the same request, and their number increased. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Every person who dies in such a state that he does not associate anyone with Allah will be included in my intercession."

It is narrated from Hazrat Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That woman who possessed status and beauty, became widowed from her husband, and devoted herself to her orphaned children until they separated from her or died—on the Day of Resurrection, I and that woman with dark cheeks will be like these two fingers. Saying this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) joined his index and middle fingers together.
