مُسْنَدُ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Musnad of Fadalah ibn Ubayd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 23934
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْنَا مَعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ إِلَى أَرْضِ الرُّومِ ، وَكَانَ عَامِلًا لِمُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى الدَّرْبِ ، فَأُصِيبَ ابْنُ عَمٍّ لَنَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ فَضَالَةُ ، وَقَامَ عَلَى حُفْرَتِهِ حَتَّى وَارَاهُ ، فَلَمَّا سَوَّيْنَا عَلَيْهِ حُفْرَتَهُ ، قَالَ : أَخِفُّوا عَنْهُ ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يَأْمُرُنَا بِتَسْوِيَةِ الْقُبُورِ " .
Thumamah says that we set out with Hazrat Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) towards the land of Rome. He was the governor of the place "Darb" on behalf of Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). One of our paternal cousins was martyred during this time. Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer and stood by his grave. When his body was covered with soil and he saw that we had leveled his grave, he said: "Keep it leveled, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to level the graves."
Hadith 23935
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَرْزُوقٍ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، سَمِعْتُهُ يُحَدِّثُ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ يَصُومُهُ ، فَدَعَا بِإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ مَاءٌ فَشَرِبَ ، فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ هَذَا الْيَوْمَ كُنْتَ تَصُومُهُ ! قَالَ : " أَجَلْ وَلَكِنْ قِئْتُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us. On that day, he would generally be fasting. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a vessel of water and drank from it. We said, "O Messenger of Allah! On this day you used to fast." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes! But today I vomited."
Hadith 23936
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي ثُمَامَةُ بْنُ شُفَيٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : غَزَوْنَا أَرْضَ الرُّومِ ، وَعَلَى ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشِ فَضَالَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ ، فَقَالَ فَضَالَةُ : خَفِّفُوا ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَأْمُرُ بِتَسْوِيَةِ الْقُبُورِ " .
Thumamah says that we set out towards the land of Rome with Hazrat Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him)... Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith and said: So he said, "Keep it level, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to keep the graves level."
Hadith 23937
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيِّ حَدَّثَنَا ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ صَاحِبَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلًا يَدْعُو فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " عَجِلَ هَذَا " ، ثُمَّ دَعَاهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ وَلِغَيْرِهِ : " إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ ، فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِتَحْمِيدِ رَبِّهِ وَالثَّنَاءِ عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ لِيُصَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ لِيَدْعُ بَعْدُ بِمَا شَاءَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man supplicating in prayer, but he neither mentioned Allah nor sent blessings upon the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that he acted hastily. Then he said to him and to others that when any of you prays, he should first praise and glorify his Lord, then send blessings and peace upon the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and after that, he may supplicate for whatever he wishes.
Hadith 23938
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا صَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ ، خَرَّ رِجَالٌ مِنْ قَامَتِهِمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ لِمَا بِهِمْ مِنَ الْخَصَاصَةِ ، وَهُمْ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الصُّفَّةِ ، حَتَّى يَقُولَ الْأَعْرَابُ : إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ مَجَانِينُ ، فَإِذَا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصَّلَاةَ انْصَرَفَ إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ : " لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا لَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، لَأَحْبَبْتُمْ لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ تَزْدَادُونَ حَاجَةً وَفَاقَةً " ، قَالَ فَضَالَةُ : وَأَنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that several times the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would be leading people in prayer, and some people who were from among the "Ashab al-Suffa" would collapse while standing due to hunger, and the Bedouins would say that they had gone mad. And the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), after finishing the prayer, would turn towards them and say, "If you knew what blessings Allah has for you, you would wish that your poverty and hunger be increased." During those days, I was also with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 23939
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، وَابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، قَالَا : أخبرنا أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقِلَادَةٍ فِيهَا ذَهَبٌ وَخَرَزٌ تُبَاعُ وَهِيَ مِنَ الْغَنَائِمِ ، فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالذَّهَبِ الَّذِي فِي الْقِلَادَةِ ، فَنُزِعَ وَحْدَهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " الذَّهَبُ بِالذَّهَبِ وَزْنًا بِوَزْنٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a necklace was presented to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in which gold and gems were set. This was war booty that was being sold. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the gold attached to this necklace be separated, so it was separated. Then he said that gold should be sold for gold with equal weight.
Hadith 23940
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الْجَنْبِيِّ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " يُسَلِّمُ الرَّاكِبُ عَلَى الْمَاشِي ، وَالْقَلِيلُ عَلَى الْكَثِيرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The rider should greet those who are walking, and the few should greet the many."
Hadith 23941
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ حَيْوَةَ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ ، : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَضَالَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ مَاتَ عَلَى مَرْتَبَةٍ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْمَرَاتِبِ ، بُعِثَ عَلَيْهَا " ، قَالَ حَيْوَةُ : يَقُولُ : رِبَاطٌ ، حَجٌّ ، أَوْ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever dies in any state will be raised up in that same state.
Hadith 23941
وحَدَّثَنَاه وحَدَّثَنَاه الطَّالَقَانِيُّ فِي هَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ ، قَالَ : " يُسَلِّمُ الْفَارِسُ عَلَى الْمَاشِي ، وَالْمَاشِي عَلَى الْقَائِمِ ، وَالْقَلِيلُ عَلَى الْكَثِيرِ " ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ عَمْرَو بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيَّ ، مِثْلَهُ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The rider should greet those who are walking, and the few should greet the many.
Hadith 23942
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ عَمْرَو بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيَّ مِثْلَهُ
Abu Abdur Rahman narrated to us, Haywah narrated to us, he said: Abu Hani’ informed me that Abu Ali ‘Amr ibn Malik al-Janbi (narrated) the like of it.
Hadith 23943
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ عَمْرَو بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيَّ ، حَدَّثَهُ فَضَالَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا تَسْأَلْ عَنْهُمْ : رَجُلٌ فَارَقَ الْجَمَاعَةَ وَعَصَى إِمَامَهُ وَمَاتَ عَاصِيًا ، وَأَمَةٌ أَوْ عَبْدٌ أَبَقَ فَمَاتَ ، وَامْرَأَةٌ غَابَ عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا قَدْ كَفَاهَا مُؤْنَةَ الدُّنْيَا فَتَبَرَّجَتْ بَعْدَهُ ، فَلَا تَسْأَلْ عَنْهُمْ ، وَثَلَاثَةٌ لَا تَسْأَلْ عَنْهُمْ : رَجُلٌ نَازَعَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ رِدَاءَهُ ، فَإِنَّ رِدَاءَهُ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ ، وَإِزَارَهُ الْعِزَّةُ ، وَرَجُلٌ شَكَّ فِي أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ، وَالْقَنُوطُ مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not ask about three types of people: First, the person who separates himself from the congregation, disobeys his Imam, and dies in that state; second, the slave or bondwoman who runs away from their master and dies in that state of escape; and third, the woman whose husband is not present, who fulfills all her worldly needs, yet she displays her body like in the days of ignorance—do not ask about them. And there are three other people about whom you should also not ask: First, the person who disputes with Allah regarding His cloak, for Allah’s upper cloak is "Majesty" and His lower cloak is "Honor"; second, the person who doubts Allah’s works; and third, the one who despairs of Allah’s mercy.
Hadith 23944
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " طُوبَى لِمَنْ هُدِيَ إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ ، وَكَانَ عَيْشُهُ كَفَافًا وَقَنَعَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Glad tidings are for the person who is guided towards Islam, and his sustenance is sufficient for his needs, and he is content with it.
Hadith 23945
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ ، وَابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، قَالَا : أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ الْجَنْبِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " مَنْ مَاتَ عَلَى مَرْتَبَةٍ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْمَرَاتِبِ ، بُعِثَ عَلَيْهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever dies in any state will be raised up in that same state.
Hadith 23946
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ حَجَّاجًا يَذْكُرُ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُحَيْرِيزٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِفَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ : أَرَأَيْتَ تَعْلِيقَ يَدِ السَّارِقِ فِي الْعُنُقِ ، أَمِنَ السُّنَّةِ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أُتِيَ بِسَارِقٍ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَقُطِعَتْ يَدُهُ ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا ، فَعُلِّقَتْ فِي عُنُقِهِ " ، قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : وَكَانَ فَضَالَةُ مِمَّنْ بَايَعَ تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْد اللَّهِ بْن أَحْمَد : قُلْتُ لِيَحْيَى بْنِ مَعِينٍ : سَمِعْتَ مِنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْمُقَدَّمِيِّ شَيْئًا ؟ قَالَ : أَيُّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ ؟ قُلْتُ : حَدِيثُ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ فِي تَعْلِيقِ الْيَدِ ، فَقَالَ : لَا ، حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ عَفَّانُ عَنْهُ.
Abdur Rahman bin Muhairiz says that once I asked Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him), "Tell me, is it Sunnah to hang the thief's hand around his neck?" He replied, "Yes! I have seen that a thief was brought to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered that his hand be cut off, then ordered that it be hung around his neck." Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) was among the participants of the Pledge of Ridwan. Imam Ahmad's (may Allah have mercy on him) son Abdullah says, "I asked Yahya bin Ma'in, 'Have you heard any hadith from Umar bin Ali Maqdami?' He asked, 'What does he have?' I told him about the hadith of Hazrat Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding hanging the thief's hand around his neck. He said, 'No, this hadith has been narrated to us by Affan.'"
Hadith 23947
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الطَّالَقَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَلَّهُ أَشَدُّ أَذَنًا إِلَى الرَّجُلِ حَسَنِ الصَّوْتِ بِالْقُرْآنِ ، مِنْ صَاحِبِ الْقَيْنَةِ إِلَى قَيْنَتِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The way the owner of a singing girl listens attentively to her singing, Allah Almighty listens with much greater attention to the voice of the person who recites the Holy Qur'an in a beautiful voice.
Hadith 23948
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَرْزُوقٍ ، عَنْ حَنَشٍ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَصْبَحَ صَائِمًا ، فَدَعَا بِشَرَابٍ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِهِ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَلَمْ تُصْبِحْ صَائِمًا ، قَالَ : " بَلَى ، وَلَكِنْ قِئْتُ " .

Hadith 23949
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " يُسَلِّمُ الرَّاكِبُ عَلَى الْمَاشِي ، وَالْمَاشِي عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ ، وَالْقَلِيلُ عَلَى الْكَثِيرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The rider should greet those who are walking, and the few should greet the many."
Hadith 23950
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنُ إِسْحَاقُ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ حَيْوَةَ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ مَاتَ عَلَى مَرْتَبَةٍ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْمَرَاتِبِ ، بُعِثَ عَلَيْهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " ، قَالَ حَيْوَةُ ، يَقُولُ : رِبَاطٌ أَوْ حَجٌّ أَوْ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever dies in any state will be raised up in that same state.
Hadith 23951
وَبِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، وَبِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " كُلُّ مَيِّتٍ يُخْتَمُ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ إِلَّا الَّذِي مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، فَإِنَّهُ يَنْمُو عَمَلُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ، وَيَأْمَنُ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The record of deeds of every deceased person is closed and sealed, except for the one who dies guarding the borders in the way of Allah; his deeds continue to increase until the Day of Resurrection, and he will be safe from the trial of the grave.
Hadith 23951
قَالَ : قَالَ : وَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " الْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ لِلَّهِ " أَوْ قَالَ : " فِي اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The true Mujahid is the one who strives against his own self in the way of Allah.
Hadith 23952
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ أَبِي الصَّعْبَةِ ، عَنْ حَنَشٍ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ شَابَ شَيْبَةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، كَانَتْ نُورًا لَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ : فَإِنَّ رِجَالًا يَنْتِفُونَ الشَّيْبَ ! فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَنْتِفْ نُورَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever grows old in the way of Allah, his white hair will be a source of light for him on the Day of Resurrection. A person submitted, "Some people pluck out their white hair." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever wishes to pluck out his light, let him do so.
Hadith 23953
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا رِشْدِينُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ ، عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " الْعَبْدُ آمِنٌ مِنْ عَذَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَا اسْتَغْفَرَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As long as a person seeks forgiveness from Allah, he remains safe from Allah's punishment.
Hadith 23954

حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ كَانَ يَقُولُ : غَزَوْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَزْوَةَ تَبُوكَ ، فَجَهَدَ بِالظَّهْرِ جَهْدًا شَدِيدًا ، فَشَكَوْا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا بِظَهْرِهِمْ مِنَ الْجَهْدِ ، فَتَحَيَّنَ بِهِمْ مَضِيقًا فَسَارَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهِ ، فَقَالَ : " مُرُّوا بِسْمِ اللَّهِ " ، فَمَرَّ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهِ بِظَهْرِهِمْ ، فَجَعَلَ يَنْفُخُ بِظَهْرِهِمْ : " اللَّهُمَّ احْمِلْ عَلَيْهَا فِي سَبِيلِكَ ، إِنَّكَ تَحْمِلُ عَلَى الْقَوِيِّ وَالضَّعِيفِ ، وَعَلَى الرَّطْبِ وَالْيَابِسِ ، فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ " ، قَالَ : فَمَا بَلَغْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ حَتَّى جَعَلَتْ تُنَازِعُنَا أَزِمَّتَهَا ، قَالَ فَضَالَةُ : هَذِهِ دَعْوَةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْقَوِيِّ وَالضَّعِيفِ ، فَمَا بَالُ الرَّطْبِ وَالْيَابِسِ ! فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا الشَّامَ غَزَوْنَا غَزْوَةَ قُبْرُسَ فِي الْبَحْرِ ، فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ السُّفُنَ فِي الْبَحْرِ وَمَا يَدْخُلُ فِيهَا ، عَرَفْتُ دَعْوَةَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that we participated in the Battle of Tabuk along with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). There were great difficulties regarding mounts. People complained to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made a round among those mounts, then said to the people, "Take the name of Allah and pass before me." People began to pass their mounts in front of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) started supplicating for them: "O Allah! Mount those who set out in Your path. Surely, You are capable of making both the strong and the weak ride, on dry and wet, on sea and land, everywhere." By the blessing of this supplication, by the time we reached the city, the riding animals had become so energetic that they began to snatch their reins from our hands. Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the supplication of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the strong and the weak was fulfilled right there. As for the dry and the wet, when we reached Syria and fought the battle of the island of Cyprus in the sea, I saw boats in the sea that were safe from drowning. This was the supplication of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I understood it then.
Hadith 23956
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَحْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي الْمُهَاجِرِ ، عَنْ مَيْسَرَةَ مَوْلَى فَضَالَةَ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَلَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَشَدُّ أَذَنًا لِلرَّجُلِ الْحَسَنِ الصَّوْتِ بِالْقُرْآنِ ، مِنْ صَاحِبِ الْقَيْنَةِ إِلَى قَيْنَتِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The way an owner listens attentively to the singing of his female singer, Allah Almighty listens with much greater attention to the voice of the person who recites the Holy Qur'an in a beautiful voice.
Hadith 23957
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، عَنِ الْأَشْيَاخِ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : عَلَّمَنِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رُقْيَةً ، وَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَرْقِيَ بِهَا مَنْ بَدَا لِي ، قَالَ لي : قُلْ : " رَبَّنَا اللَّهُ الَّذِي فِي السَّماءِ ، تَقَدَّسَ اسْمُكَ ، أَمْرُكَ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ ، اللَّهُمَّ كَمَا أَمْرُكَ فِي السَّمَاءِ فَاجْعَلْ رَحْمَتَكَ عَلَيْنَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ، اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ الطَّيِّبِينَ اغْفِرْ لَنَا حَوْبَنَا وَذُنُوبَنَا وَخَطَايَانَا ، وَنَزِّلْ رَحْمَةً مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ ، وَشِفَاءً مِنْ شِفَائِكَ ، عَلَى مَا بِفُلَانٍ مِنْ شَكْوَى ، فَيَبْرَأُ " ، قَالَ : " وَقُلْ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ تَعَوَّذْ بِالْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me a ruqyah (spiritual healing) practice and permitted me to perform it on whomever I deemed appropriate. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Say like this: "Our Lord is Allah who is in the heavens, Your name is holy, Your command prevails in the earth and the heavens. O Allah! Just as Your command prevails in the heavens, let it prevail on the earth. Send down Your mercy upon us. O Allah, Lord of the pure people! Forgive our slips, sins, and mistakes. Send down Your mercy and grant healing to such-and-such person who is afflicted with suffering, so that he may become healthy." Say this three times, then recite the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas) three times.
Hadith 23958
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا لَيْثٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيِّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي فَضَالَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ : " أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِ ؟ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ ، وَالْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ النَّاسُ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ ، وَالْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ فِي طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ ، وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ الْخَطَايَا وَالذَّنُوبَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "Shall I not tell you about the 'believer'? A believer is one from whom people's lives and wealth are safe. A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand other people are safe. A Mujahid is one who strives against his own self in obedience to Allah, and a Muhajir is one who abandons sins and mistakes."
Hadith 23959
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّهُ رَأَى فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ أَمَرَ بِقُبُورِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَسُوِّيَتْ ، بِأَرْضِ الرُّومِ ، وَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " سَوُّوا قُبُورَكُمْ بِالْأَرْضِ " .
Abu Ali Hamdani says that we set out with Hazrat Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) towards the land of Rome so that the graves of the Muslims may be leveled, and he said that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to level the graves.
Hadith 23960
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّهُمْ " كَانُوا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَةٍ ، قَالَ : وَفِينَا مَمْلُوكونَ ، فَلَا يَقْسِمُ لَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he participated in a battle along with the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them), in which slaves were also included, but the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give them a share.
Hadith 23961
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ أَخُو سليمان بن كثير ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزَاةٍ ، قَالَ " وَفِينَا مَمْلُوكونَ ، فَلَا يَقْسِمُ لَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he participated in a battle along with the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them), in which slaves were also included, but the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give them a share.
Hadith 23962
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ ، وَيُونُسُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ هَاشِمٌ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ أَبُو شُجَاعٍ ، وَقَالَ يُونُسُ : عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ أَبِي شُجَاعٍ الْحِمْيَرِيِّ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ ، قَالَ يُونُسُ : الْمَعَافِرِيِّ ، عَنْ حَنَشٍ الصَّنْعَانِيِّ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : اشْتَرَيْتُ قِلَادَةً يَوْمَ فَتْحِ خَيْبَرَ بِاثْنَيْ عَشَرَ دِينَارًا فِيهَا ذَهَبٌ وَخَرَزٌ ، فَفَصَّلْتُهَا ، فَوَجَدْتُ فِيهَا أَكْثَرَ مِنَ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ دِينَارًا ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " لَا تُبَاعُ حَتَّى تُفَصَّلَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the conquest of Khaybar, I bought a necklace for twelve dinars in which there was gold and gems set. When I separated them from the necklace, the gold turned out to be worth more than twelve dinars. I mentioned this matter to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It should not be sold further until it has been separated."
Hadith 23963
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَرْزُوقٍ مَوْلَى تُجِيبَ ، عَنْ حَنَشٍ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ نَافِذٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ يَصُومُهُ ، قَالَ : فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَشَرِبَ ، فَقُلْنَا لَهُ : وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنْ كَانَ هَذَا الْيَوْمُ كُنْتَ تَصُومُهُ ! قَالَ : " أَجَلْ ، وَلَكِنِّي قِئْتُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us. On that day, he would generally be fasting. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a vessel of water and drank from it. We said, "O Messenger of Allah! On this day you used to fast." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes! But today I vomited."
Hadith 23964
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْمَرُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا رِشْدِينُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيِّ ، أَنَّ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ ، وَعُبَادَةَ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ حَدَّثَاهُ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ ، وَفَرَغَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى مِنْ قَضَاءِ الْخَلْقِ ، فَيَبْقَى رَجُلَانِ ، فَيُؤْمَرُ بِهِمَا إِلَى النَّارِ ، فَيَلْتَفِتُ أَحَدُهُمَا ، فَيَقُولُ : الْجَبَّارُ تَبَارَكَ اسْمُهُ رُدُّوهُ فَيَرُدُّوهُ ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُ : لِمَ الْتَفَتَّ ؟ يَعْنِي فَيَقُولُ : قَدْ كُنْتُ أَرْجُو أَنْ تُدْخِلَنِي الْجَنَّةَ ، قَالَ : فَيُؤْمَرُ بِهِ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ ، قال : فَيَقُولُ : لَقَدْ أَعْطَانِي رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَتَّى لَوْ أَنِّي أَطْعَمْتُ أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ ، مَا نَقَصَ ذَلِكَ مِمَّا عِنْدِي شَيْئًا " ، قَالَا : وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا ذَكَرَهُ يُرَى السُّرُورُ فِي وَجْهِهِ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, when Allah Almighty will have finished reckoning with the creation, two men will remain. It will be commanded regarding them that they be thrown into Hell. As one of them is going, he will look back. Allah Almighty will say: Bring him back. So the angels will bring him back. Allah Almighty will ask: Why did you look back? He will reply: I had hope that You would admit me into Paradise. So it will be commanded that he be taken to Paradise. And he will say: Allah Almighty has given me so much that if I invite all the people of Paradise to a feast, nothing will be diminished from what I have. And whenever the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned this, the effects of happiness would be visible on his blessed face.
Hadith 23965
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُبَارَكِ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَمْرَو بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " الْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The true Mujahid is the one who strives against his own self in the way of Allah.
Hadith 23966
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ غَيْلَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْمُفَضَّلُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَرْزُوقٍ ، عَنْ حَنَشٍ الصَّنْعَانِيِّ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ " كَانَ صَائِمًا فَقَاءَ فَأَفْطَرَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was fasting. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) vomited, so he broke his fast.
Hadith 23967
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي رِشْدِينُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ أَبِي هَانِئٍ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ : " أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ مَنْ الْمُسْلِمُ ؟ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ ، وَالْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ ، وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ الْخَطَايَا وَالذَّنُوبَ ، وَالْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ فِي طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "Shall I not tell you about the 'believer'? A believer is one from whom people's lives and wealth are safe. A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand other people are safe. A Mujahid is one who strives against his own self in obedience to Allah, and a Muhajir is one who abandons sins and mistakes."
Hadith 23968
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنِ الْجُلَاحِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي حَنَشٌ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ ، عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ نُبَايِعُ الْيَهُودَ الْأُوقِيَّةَ الذَّهَبَ بِالدِّينَارَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تَبِيعُوا الذَّهَبَ بِالذَّهَبِ إِلَّا وَزْنًا بِوَزْنٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) that once in Khaybar, a necklace was presented to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), in which gold and jewels were set. This was war booty that was being sold. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the gold attached to the necklace be separated. Then he said that gold should be sold for gold with equal weight.
Hadith 23969
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَحَلَ إِلَى فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ وَهُوَ بِمِصْرَ ، فَقَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَمُدُّ نَاقَةً لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي لَمْ آتِكَ زَائِرًا ، إِنَّمَا أَتَيْتُكَ لِحَدِيثٍ بَلَغَنِي عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجَوْتُ أَنْ يَكُونَ عِنْدَكَ مِنْهُ عِلْمٌ فَرَآهُ شَعِثًا ، فَقَالَ : مَا لِي أَرَاكَ شَعِثًا وَأَنْتَ أَمِيرُ الْبَلَدِ ؟ ! قَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يَنْهَانَا عَنْ كَثِيرٍ مِنَ الْإِرْفَاهِ ، وَرَآهُ حَافِيًا ، فَقَالَ : مَا لِي أَرَاكَ حَافِيًا ، قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَحْتَفِيَ أَحْيَانًا " .
A companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) traveled to Hazrat Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) because he lived in Egypt. When he reached him, Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) was pulling his she-camel. The visitor said, "I have not come to meet you just for the sake of meeting; I have only come to ask you about a hadith which I have learned is related to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and I hope that you have knowledge of it." The visitor saw that Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared disheveled, so he asked, "Despite being the governor of the city, why do you appear in such a disheveled state?" He replied, "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade us from living in excessive luxury." Then the visitor saw that Hazrat Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) was barefoot and asked, "What is the reason that you are also seen barefoot?" He replied, "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) commanded us to sometimes wear shoes and sometimes go without."
