A man says that once I was on a journey with Hazrat Salim bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) when a man sneezed and instead of thanking Allah, he said "Assalamu Alaikum." Hazrat Salim (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Upon you and your mother as well." After walking a little further, he asked him, "Perhaps you are angry with me?" He replied, "Why did you mention my mother?" He said, "I had no other words to say except this, because once I was also on a journey with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and a man sneezed and said 'Assalamu Alaikum,' and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also gave him the same reply. Then he said, 'When any of you sneezes, he should say 'Alhamdulillah ala kulli haal' or 'Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Aalameen,' and the listener should say 'Yarhamukumullah,' and the one who sneezed should reply, 'May Allah forgive my and your sins.'"
