حَدِيثُ شَيْخٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hadith of a shaykh from the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 23488
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بنِ هِلَالٍ ، عَنْ أَبي برْدَةَ ، قَالَ : جَلَسْتُ إِلَى شَيْخٍ مِنْ أَصْحَاب النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْكُوفَةِ فَحَدَّثَنِي ، َقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، تُوبوا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ، فَإِنِّي أَتُوب إِلَى اللَّهِ وَأَسْتَغْفِرُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ " ، فَقُلْتُ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ ، اثْنَتَانِ ، قَالَ : هُوَ مَا أَقُولُ لَكَ.
It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people, keep repenting to your Lord, and I myself repent to Him a hundred times in a day. I asked him, "Are 'Allahumma inni astaghfiruka' and 'Allahumma inni atubu ilayk' two separate things or the same?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They are the same.
