Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from a companion, may Allah be pleased with him, who visited the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, once offered prayer in such a way that he was wearing only one garment, and its two ends were taken out from opposite sides and placed over his shoulders.

It is narrated from multiple Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The poor believers will enter Paradise four hundred years before the wealthy. So much so that the wealthy Muslims will say, "If only I had remained destitute in the world!" We said, "O Messenger of Allah! Please tell us their names." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These are the people who, when distressing circumstances arise, are sent forth; if spoils of war come, others are sent and they are left behind; and these are the people who are kept away from their own doors.

It is narrated from a companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "My father sends you greetings of peace." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Peace be upon you and upon your father."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abi Al-Jad'aa (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Because of the intercession of one man from my Ummah, more people will enter Paradise than the number of Banu Tamim.

Zuhair bin Aqmar says that once, after the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) was delivering a sermon when a tall, wheat-colored man from the tribe of Azd stood up and said: I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he had Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in his lap and was saying: Whoever loves me should also love him, and convey this message to those present and absent. And if the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had not said this with certainty, I would never have narrated it to you.

Saeed bin Wahb says that once Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the people under oath, so five companions (may Allah be pleased with them) stood up and testified that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever loves me, Ali is also beloved to him."

It is narrated from a Badri Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sitting in a gathering of admonition like this is more beloved to me than freeing four slaves.

It is narrated from Qabeesah bin Mas’ood that a group of Mujahideen offered the Fajr prayer, and when they finished the prayer, a young man among them said: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that soon the east and west of the earth will be conquered for you, but their officials and governors will be in Hell, except for those who fear Allah and fulfill the trust.

Abu Imran (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I said to Jundub that I have pledged allegiance to Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him). These people want me to go with them to Syria. Jundub said, "Do not go." I said, "They will not let me do otherwise." He said, "Save yourself by giving financial ransom." I said, "They are not willing to accept anything except that I go with them and display my swordsmanship." Upon this, Jundub said, "Such-and-such a person narrated this hadith to me, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, the murdered person will bring his killer before Allah and say, 'O Lord! Ask him for what reason he killed me?' So Allah will ask him, 'For what reason did you kill him?' He will say, 'Because of so-and-so's government.' Therefore, you should beware of this."

Abu Salam says that a man was passing by the mosque of Homs. People said that this person has served the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). I got up and went to him and requested, "Tell me a hadith which you yourself have heard from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) directly, with no intermediary in between." He replied, "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Whoever, every morning and evening, says these words three times: 'I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad (peace be upon him) as my Prophet,' then it is Allah's responsibility to please him on the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was eating suhoor. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is a blessing which Allah has granted you, so do not abandon it."

Humaid bin Qaqa’ narrates from a man that he used to see the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) supplicating in this way: “O Allah, forgive my sins, grant me ease personally, and bless my sustenance.” When he observed again carefully, he heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) supplicating with the same prayer.

It is narrated from a Companion that once the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was delivering a sermon and he was also present. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked the people, "Do you know who is called 'Raqoob'?" The people replied, "The one who has no children." The Prophet (peace be upon him) repeated the words "perfect Raqoob" three times and said, "He is the one who has children but dies in such a state that none of them are sent ahead (i.e., none survive him)." Then he asked, "Do you know who is called 'Sa'look'?" The people replied, "The one who has no wealth at all." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "The perfect Sa'look is the one who has wealth but dies in such a state that he has not sent anything ahead (i.e., has not spent in charity)." Then he asked, "Do you know who is called 'Sura’ah'?" The people replied, "The wrestler who throws someone down." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "The perfect Sura’ah is the one who, when anger comes upon him and his anger becomes intense so that the color of his face turns red and his hair stands on end, he overcomes his anger."

It is narrated from a man of Banulais that the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) detained me. I was with them when they came across a flock of goats. They plundered it and began to cook it. Then I said, "I have heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say that plundering is not permissible, so overturn your pots."

Abu Al-Minhāl Khuza'i (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his uncle that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to the people of the tribe of Aslam on the day of Ashura (10th of Muharram): "Fast on this day." They said, "We have already eaten and drunk." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Do not eat or drink for the rest of the day."

Faisi, may Allah be pleased with him, says that once he was on a journey with the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, urinated, then water was brought, which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, poured from a vessel onto his blessed hand and washed it once, washed his face once, washed both hands once, and then with both hands washed both feet once.

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The intensity of heat is due to the effect of the heat of Hell, therefore when the heat is severe, perform the prayer after it has cooled down.

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Which deed is the best?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "The best deed is to perform prayer at its appointed time, to treat parents with kindness, and to strive in the way of Allah (jihad)."

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Asr prayer. After that, a man stood up and began to pray. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw him and said, "Sit down, for the People of the Book were destroyed only because there was no break between their prayers." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Ibn Khattab has spoken well."

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin once came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Drought has consumed us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "In my view, there is something more dangerous for you than drought. Soon, the world will be poured upon you. I wish my followers would not wear gold."

A man from Muzaina or Juhaina says that one or two days before Eid al-Adha, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to give two six-month-old sheep and take one animal for the whole year. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever is sufficed by a one-year-old animal, a six-month-old animal will also suffice for him."

A man asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me about a deed that will admit me into Paradise." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked him, "Are either of your parents alive?" He said, "No." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then give water to the people." He asked, "How is that?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "When people are present, guard their water-drawing vessels, and when they are absent (and forgetfully leave them behind), pick them up and return them to them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ruh (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Fajr prayer in which he recited Surah Rum. During the recitation, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became confused. After the prayer, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that Satan caused us confusion during the recitation because of those people who come to prayer without ablution. Therefore, when you come for prayer, perform ablution thoroughly.

A man asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me about a deed that will admit me to Paradise..." Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith and said: When people are present, protect their water-drawing vessels, and when they are absent (even if they have left), then pick them up and deliver them to them.

It is narrated from a man of Banu Amir that once he sought permission from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said, "May I enter?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to his maidservant, "Go to him, for he is not seeking permission in a good manner, and say to him that you should say, 'Peace be upon you, may I come in?'" I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying this, so I said, "Peace be upon you, may I come in?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) granted permission and I entered. I asked, "What message have you brought to us?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "I have only brought you a message of goodness, and that is that you worship Allah, who is alone and has no partner, and you abandon Lat and Uzza, perform five prayers in the day and night, fast for one month in the year, perform Hajj to the House of Allah, and take the wealth from your rich and return it to your poor." I asked, "Is there anything that you do not know?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Allah alone has granted knowledge of goodness, and there are some things that none knows except Allah. They are five things." Then he recited this verse: "The knowledge of the Hour is with Allah alone. He sends down the rain. He knows what is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in which land it will die. Surely, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware."

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever kills a dhimmi (a non-Muslim under Muslim protection) will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise, even though its fragrance can be perceived from a distance of seventy years.

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the morning of Laylat al-Qadr, I looked at the moon and it was like half a bowl. Abu Ishaq says that the moon appears in this shape on the 23rd night.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sharjeel bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever drinks alcohol, flog him; if he drinks a second time, flog him; if he drinks a third time, flog him; and if he drinks a fourth time, then kill him.

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you about the people of Paradise? Every weak person who is dominated and subdued. Shall I not tell you about the people of Hell? Every ill-tempered person who is spiteful and arrogant."

Humaid Himyari (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I met a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) who had accompanied the Prophet (peace be upon him) for four years, just like Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). He did not say more than three things to me: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "A man can perform ghusl (ritual bath) with water left over by a woman, but a woman should not perform ghusl with water left over by a man. Do not urinate in the bathhouse, and do not comb (beautify) yourself every day."

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that he once saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) embracing Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them) with his body, and at that time the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: "O Allah! I love both of them, so You also love both of them."

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about ‘Aqiqah. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I do not like ‘Uquq (from which this word is derived and which means disobedience to parents), thus he expressed dislike for this word, and said: Whoever has a child born to him and wishes to slaughter an animal on his behalf, he should do so.

It is narrated from a Jahni companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A disbeliever eats and drinks with seven intestines, while a believer eats and drinks with one intestine."

It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) "who performed the prayer of fear with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) during the expedition of Dhat al-Riqa’," that one group formed rows with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the other group went in front of the enemy. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led the group with him in one rak’ah, then remained standing until those behind completed their prayer and went back to form rows in front of the enemy. Then the other group came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led them in the remaining rak’ah of his prayer, then remained seated until they completed their prayer, then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned in salam with them.

It is narrated from Ahnaf bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) that once my cousin presented himself in the court of the Messenger of Allah and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Give me some brief advice, perhaps I will understand it." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not get angry." He repeated his request several times, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the same reply each time: "Do not get angry."

Muhammad bin Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) once said to Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him), "If you have heard any hadith from your father from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), then narrate it to me." He narrated from his father that he heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever plays with twelve sticks and then stands to pray, his example is like that of a person who performs ablution with vomit and the blood of a pig and then stands to pray."

It is narrated from a companion of Banu Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) counted these things on the fingers of his blessed hand: "Subhan Allah" is equal to half the scale of deeds; "Alhamdulillah" fills the scale of deeds; the phrase "Allahu Akbar" fills all the space between the earth and the sky; cleanliness is half of faith, and fasting is half of patience.

A person was informed by the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) muezzin that one day it was raining, so the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) caller announced: “O people! Pray in your tents.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Iyas bin Bukair (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to one of his noble wives and asked her, "Do you have the perfume called 'Dhareerah'?" She replied, "Yes!" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had it brought and began to apply it to the boils between his toes. Then he made this supplication: "O Allah, the One who extinguishes the big and makes the small big! Remove this boil." Thus, those boils were removed.
