It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that (on the day of Eid al-Adha) the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was passing between our houses when he sensed the aroma of roasted meat. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Who has slaughtered an animal?" One man among us came forward and said, "O Messenger of Allah! On this day, food is a necessity, so I slaughtered my animal so that I could eat myself and also feed my neighbors." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Offer the sacrifice again." He said, "By Him besides whom there is no deity, I have only a six-month-old kid or a pregnant goat." He repeated this sentence three times. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Slaughter that one, but after you, it will not suffice for anyone else."
