حَدِيثُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ
Hadith of Abu Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 22508
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُنْذِرِ مَوْلَى أَبِي ذَرٍّ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِلِصٍّ فَاعْتَرَفَ ، وَلَمْ يُوجَدْ مَعَهُ مَتَاعٌ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " مَا أَخَالُكَ سَرَقْتَ ! قَالَ : بَلَى ، مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اقْطَعُوهُ ، ثُمَّ جِيئُوا بِهِ , قَالَ : فَقَطَعُوهُ ، ثُمَّ جَاءُوا بِهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " قُلْ : أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ , قَالَ : أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اللَّهُمَّ تُبْ عَلَيْهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umayyah Makhzumi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a thief was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He confessed to the crime, but the stolen goods were not found with him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "I do not think that you have committed theft?" He replied two or three times, "Why not?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Cut off his hand and bring him back to me." So his hand was cut off and he was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Say: 'Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh' (I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance)." He said exactly that: "Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, "O Allah, accept his repentance."
