حَدِيثُ هَزَّالٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ
Hadith of Hazzal (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 21890
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ , أَخْبَرَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ نُعَيْمِ بنِ هَزَّالٍ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , قَالَ : كَانَ مَاعِزُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فِي حِجْرِ أَبِي , فَأَصَابَ جَارِيَةً مِنَ الْحَيِّ , فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبِي : ائْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبِرْهُ بِمَا صَنَعْتَ لَعَلَّهُ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكَ , وَإِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ بِذَلِكَ رَجَاءَ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ مَخْرَجٌ , فَأَتَاهُ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ فَأَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ , فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ , ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الثَّانِيَةَ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ فَأَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ , ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الثَّالِثَةَ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ فَأَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ , ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الرَّابِعَةَ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ فَأَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّكَ قَدْ قُلْتَهَا أَرْبَعَ مَرَّاتٍ , فَبِمَنْ ؟ " , قَالَ : بِفُلَانَةَ , قَالَ : " هَلْ ضَاجَعْتَهَا ؟ " , قَالَ : نَعَمْ , قَالَ : " هَلْ بَاشَرْتَهَا ؟ " , قَالَ : نَعَمْ , قَالَ : " هَلْ جَامَعْتَهَا ؟ " , قَالَ : نَعَمْ , قَالَ : فَأَمَرَ بِهِ أَنْ يُرْجَمَ , قَالَ : فَأُخْرِجَ بِهِ إِلَى الْحَرَّةِ , فَلَمَّا رُجِمَ , فَوَجَدَ مَسَّ الْحِجَارَةِ جَزَعَ , فَخَرَجَ يَشْتَدُّ , فَلَقِيَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُنَيْس وَقَدْ أَعْجَزَ أَصْحَابَهُ , فَنَزَعَ لَهُ بِوَظِيفِ بَعِيرٍ فَرَمَاهُ بِهِ , فَقَتَلَهُ , قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ , فَقَالَ : " هَلَّا تَرَكْتُمُوهُ لَعَلَّهُ يَتُوبُ , فَيَتُوبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ " . قَالَ هِشَامٌ : فَحَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ هَزَّالٍ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأَبِي حِينَ رَآهُ : " وَاللَّهِ يَا هَزَّالُ لَوْ كُنْتَ سَتَرْتَهُ بِثَوْبِكَ , كَانَ خَيْرًا مِمَّا صَنَعْتَ بِهِ ".
Nuaim bin Hazzal says that Ma'iz bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) was raised under the care of my father. He became involved with a slave woman from the neighborhood. My father said to him, "Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and inform him of this incident so that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) may pray for your forgiveness." His intention was that perhaps a way out would be found for him. So he presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed adultery, so carry out the punishment on me according to the Book of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from him. This happened four times. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have confessed four times. Tell me, with whom did you commit this sin?" Ma'iz said, "With such-and-such woman." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Did you lie with her?" Ma'iz said, "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Did you touch your body with hers?" Ma'iz said, "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Did you have intercourse with her?" Ma'iz said, "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be stoned. So the people took him towards Harrah. When Ma'iz was being stoned and was struck by stones, he felt the pain and ran away quickly. The people were unable to catch him, then suddenly Abdullah bin Unais met him and struck him with a camel bone, causing his death. Then they presented themselves before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this incident. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Why did you not leave him? Perhaps he would have repented and Allah would have accepted his repentance." And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to my father, "Hazzal! By Allah! If you had concealed him in your clothes, it would have been better than what you did with him."
Hadith 21891
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ يَزِيدَ الْعَطَّارَ , حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ , عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ , عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ هَزَّالٍ , أَنَّ هَزَّالًا كَانَ اسْتَأْجَرَ مَاعِزَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ , وَكَانَتْ لَهُ جَارِيَةٌ يُقَالُ لَهَا : فَاطِمَةُ , قَدْ أُمْلِكَتْ , وَكَانَتْ تَرْعَى غَنَمًا لَهُمْ , وَإِنَّ مَاعِزًا وَقَعَ عَلَيْهَا , فَأَخْبَرَ هَزَّالًا فَخَدَعَهُ , فَقَالَ : انْطَلِقْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبِرْهُ , عَسَى أَنْ يَنْزِلَ فِيكَ قُرْآنٌ , فَأَمَرَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرُجِمَ , فَلَمَّا عَضَّتْهُ مَسُّ الْحِجَارَةِ انْطَلَقَ يَسْعَى , فَاسْتَقْبَلَهُ رَجُلٌ بِلَحْيِ جَزُورٍ , أَوْ سَاقِ بَعِيرٍ , فَضَرَبَهُ بِهِ فَصَرَعَهُ , فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَيْلَكَ يَا هَزَّالُ لَوْ كُنْتَ سَتَرْتَهُ بِثَوْبِكَ , كَانَ خَيْرًا لَكَ " .
Nuaim bin Hazzal says that Ma'iz bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) used to work for my father. My father had a slave woman whose name was Fatimah; she used to graze his goats. Ma'iz became involved with her. My father said to him, "Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and inform him of this incident; perhaps a command regarding you will be revealed in the Qur'an." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be stoned. So the people took him towards "Harrah." When Ma'iz was about to be stoned and stones struck him, he felt the pain and ran away quickly. The people were unable to catch him, then suddenly Abdullah bin Unais met him; he struck him with a camel bone, which caused his death. Then he went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this incident. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Why did you not leave him? Perhaps he would have repented and Allah would have accepted his repentance." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to my father, "Hazzal! By Allah! If you had hidden him in your clothes, it would have been better than what you did to him."
Hadith 21892
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ , عَنْ سُفْيَانَ , عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ , عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , أَنَّ مَاعِزَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : أَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ , فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ أَرْبَعَ مَرَّاتٍ , ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِرَجْمِهِ , فَلَمَّا مَسَّتْهُ الْحِجَارَةُ , قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ : وَقَالَ مَرَّةً : فَلَمَّا عَضَّتْهُ الْحِجَارَةُ أَجْزَعَ , فَخَرَجَ يَشْتَدُّ , وَخَرَجَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُنَيْسٍ , أَوْ أَنَسُ بْنُ نَادِيَةَ , فَرَمَاهُ بِوَظِيفِ حِمَارٍ فَصَرَعَهُ , فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَحَدَّثَهُ بِأَمْرِهِ , فَقَالَ : " هَلَّا تَرَكْتُمُوهُ لَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَتُوبَ , فَيَتُوبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ " , ثُمَّ قَالَ : " يَا هَزَّالُ لَوْ سَتَرْتَهُ بِثَوْبِكَ , كَانَ خَيْرًا لَكَ " .
Nuaim bin Hazzal narrates that Hazrat Ma'iz bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Hadith 21893
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ , حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ , أَخْبَرَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ هَزَّالٍ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , أَنَّ مَاعِزَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ كَانَ فِي حِجْرِهِ , قَالَ : فَلَمَّا فَجَرَ , قَالَ لَهُ : ائْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبِرْهُ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهُ , وَلَقِيَهُ : " يَا هَزَّالُ , أَمَا لَوْ كُنْتَ سَتَرْتَهُ بِثَوْبِكَ , لَكَانَ خَيْرًا مِمَّا صَنَعْتَ بِهِ " .

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ , حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ , حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ الْمُنْكَدِرِ يُحَدِّثُ , عَنِ ابْنِ هَزَّالٍ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَمْرِ مَاعِزٍ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ كُنْتَ سَتَرْتَهُ بِثَوْبِكَ , كَانَ خَيْرًا لَكَ " .

Hadith 21895
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ , حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ , عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ , قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ الْمُنْكَدِرِ يُحَدِّثُ , عَنِ ابْنِ هَزَّالٍ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ : " وَيْحَكَ يَا هَزَّالُ لَوْ سَتَرْتَهُ يَعْنِي مَاعِزًا , بِثَوْبِكَ كَانَ خَيْرًا لَكَ " .
