‘Ammarah bin Khuzaymah narrates from his uncle — who was a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) — that once the Prophet (peace be upon him) bought a horse from a Bedouin and took him along to pay the price. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was walking fast, while the Bedouin was walking slowly. On the way, some people met the Bedouin and started bargaining with him for the horse, because they did not know that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had already bought it. Eventually, one man offered him a price for the horse that was higher than the price at which the Prophet (peace be upon him) had bought it. So the Bedouin called out to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, “If you want to buy this horse, then take it, otherwise I am going to sell it.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) stopped when he heard the Bedouin’s voice and said, “Did I not already buy this horse from you?” He replied, “By Allah! I have not sold you this horse.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Why not? I have indeed bought it from you.” They began to argue over this, and people started gathering. The Bedouin said, “Bring a witness who can testify that I sold it to you.” Every Muslim who came would say to him, “Wretched one! The Prophet (peace be upon him) only speaks the truth.” Meanwhile, Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with him) also arrived and heard their argument. When the Bedouin again demanded a witness, Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I bear witness that you sold this horse to the Prophet (peace be upon him).” The Prophet (peace be upon him) turned to Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, “How do you testify?” He replied, “O Messenger of Allah! Because of your truthfulness.” So the Prophet (peace be upon him) considered his testimony equal to the testimony of two men.
