It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once he and Har bin Qais Fazari had a difference of opinion regarding the companion of Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) to whom he had requested permission from Allah to travel and meet. Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was of the opinion that he was Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him). Meanwhile, Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) happened to pass by. Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) called out to him and said, "My companion and I have differed regarding the identity of the companion of Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) whom he requested to travel and meet. Have you heard anything from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this?" He replied, "Yes! I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Once Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) was addressing a gathering of Bani Israel when a man stood up and asked him, 'Is there anyone more knowledgeable than you?' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) replied, 'No.' Upon this, Allah revealed to him that 'Our servant Khidr is more knowledgeable than you.' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) asked how he could meet him, so Allah made a fish a sign for him and said, 'When you do not find the fish, return, for there you will meet him.' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) set out on the journey, and at one place he stopped and said to his servant, 'Bring our breakfast, for we have faced much hardship in this journey.' There Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) found the fish missing, so both of them retraced their footsteps and returned, and then that incident occurred which Allah has mentioned in His Book."
Hadith 21109
Ibn Mus'ab said in his narration: "So he stopped at a place, and Musa said to his servant: 'Bring us our food, for we have certainly suffered fatigue from this journey of ours.' It was then that he noticed the fish was missing, so they retraced their steps, following their tracks. Musa began to follow the trace of the fish in the sea. He said: And what happened between them is as Allah has related in His Book."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to Hazrat Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "Famine has consumed us." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him, "Which tribe do you belong to?" Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) kept inquiring about his lineage until he recognized him and found out that he was actually well-off financially. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Even if a person has one or two valleys full of wealth, he will still seek a third." Upon this, Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) added, "The belly of the son of Adam is only filled with dust, then Allah turns with mercy to the one who repents." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him, "From whom did you hear this?" He replied, "From Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him)." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Come to me tomorrow." When Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reached his mother, Hazrat Umm al-Fadl (may Allah be pleased with her), he mentioned this incident to her. She said, "What was the need for you to speak in front of Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)?" Now Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) became apprehensive that perhaps Hazrat Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) might have forgotten it, but his mother reassured him, saying, "I hope he has not forgotten it." So, the next day, when Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reached Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), there was a whip lying near him. We both set out towards Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) came out, having performed fresh ablution. He said, "I was afflicted with 'madhi' (pre-seminal fluid), so I only washed my private part (and performed ablution)." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "Is this permissible?" He replied, "Yes." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "Did you hear this from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied, "Yes." Then Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked about the statement of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he also confirmed it.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that I said to Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that Nauf Bikali thinks that the Musa (of Hazrat Khidr, peace be upon him) is not the Musa of Bani Israel, but rather some other Musa. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "The enemy of Allah lies! Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith to me that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Once Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) was standing and giving a sermon before Bani Israel. After the sermon ended, a man asked, 'Who is the most knowledgeable person?' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) replied, 'I am the most knowledgeable.' Allah Almighty revealed to Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) that among My servants, there is a servant who is more knowledgeable than you. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'O Lord, how can I meet him?' It was commanded, 'Take a (roasted) fish in a basket with you (and set out on your journey). Where that fish is lost, you will find that person.' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) took a fish, put it in the basket, and set out, taking with him a servant, Yusha bin Nun. As they walked, when they reached a rock, both (stopped and) Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) rested his head on the rock and slept. Meanwhile, the fish fluttered out of the basket and made its way into the river, making a tunnel as it went. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) woke up, and Musa said to his servant, 'We have become very tired from this journey, now bring the food.' And Musa had not felt any fatigue until he had passed the appointed place, but only began to feel tired after passing the appointed place. The servant said, 'What can I say, when we reached that rock, I forgot the fish there (and I did not mention it to you).' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'That is the place we were seeking.' So they retraced their steps, step by step, back to the rock. As soon as they reached the rock, they saw a man with his head wrapped in a cloth. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) greeted him with salam. Khidr said, 'Where is salam customary in your land?' (How did you greet me with salam?) Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'I am Musa.' Khidr said, 'The Musa of Bani Israel?' I said, 'Yes.' After that, Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'May I accompany you on the condition that you teach me some part of the knowledge which Allah has granted you?' Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) said, 'You will not be able to remain patient with me (you will interrupt in between), because Allah Almighty has granted me a special portion which He has not given to you, and He has given you knowledge of which I am unaware.' (Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'If Allah wills, you will find me steadfast, I will not disobey your command.') Eventually, both walked along the riverbank, and there was no boat. Meanwhile, a boat passed by, and they spoke to the boatmen about boarding. The people recognized Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him), so the boatmen let both of them board without fare. After that, Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) inspected the boat, took out an adze, and removed a plank from the boat. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'What have you done? These people let us board without fare, and you have damaged their boat and wanted to drown everyone. You have done a strange thing!' Khidr (peace be upon him) said, 'Did I not tell you that you would not be able to remain patient with me?' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'Do not call me to account for my forgetfulness, and do not make my task difficult for me.' Meanwhile, a bird came and dipped its beak into the sea. Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) said, 'My knowledge and your knowledge cannot decrease Allah's knowledge even as much as this bird has decreased the water of the sea.' Then both of them disembarked from the boat and walked on. On the way, a boy was playing with other children. Khidr (peace be upon him) caught him by the head and killed him by breaking his neck with his hand. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'You have killed an innocent soul without reason; you have done a terrible thing.' Khidr (peace be upon him) said, 'Did I not tell you that you would not be able to remain patient with me?' Musa said, 'Well, after this, if I ask you anything, do not keep me with you. You have already excused me much.' Eventually, both walked on. As they walked, they reached a village. They asked the villagers for food, but they refused to host them. There they saw a wall that was about to collapse. Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) gestured with his hand and set it straight. Hazrat

Bahz ibn Asad narrated to us, Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to me, dictating to me, from ‘Amr, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, who said: I said to Ibn ‘Abbas, ‘Abdullah said, my father said: I wrote it from Bahz and Ibn ‘Uyaynah, that Nauf claims that Musa was not the companion of al-Khidr. He said: So he said: The enemy of Allah has lied. Ubayy ibn Ka‘b narrated to us, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Musa stood as a preacher among the Children of Israel, and was asked: Who is the most knowledgeable of people? He said: I am. So Allah reproached him because he did not refer knowledge back to Him. He said: Rather, a servant of Mine at the junction of the two seas is more knowledgeable than you. He said: O Lord, how can I find him? He said: Take a fish and put it in a basket, then set out, and wherever you lose it, he is there. So Musa set out, and with him his servant, and they walked until they reached the rock, and Musa lay down, and the fish stirred in the basket, then came out and fell into the sea, and Allah withheld from it the flow of water like an arch, and the fish had a tunnel. Sufyan said: He joined the thumb and forefinger and separated them. He said: So they set out until, when it was the next day, Musa said to his servant: Bring us our food, for we have certainly encountered fatigue in this journey of ours. He said: And he did not find fatigue until he had passed the place he was commanded. He said: That is what we were seeking. So they retraced their steps, following their tracks, tracing their footsteps. He said: And for Musa, the trace of the fish was amazing, and for the fish, a tunnel." Then he mentioned the rest of the hadith.

Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith to me, that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Once Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) was standing and giving a sermon before Bani Israel. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'O Lord, how can I meet him?' It was commanded, 'Take a (roasted) fish with you in a basket (and set out on your journey). Where that fish is lost, you will find that person.' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) took a fish, put it in the basket, and set out, taking with him a servant, Yusha bin Nun. As they walked, when they reached a rock, both (stopped and) Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) lay his head on the rock and slept. Meanwhile, the fish fluttered out of the basket and made its way into the river, making a tunnel as it went. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) woke up, and Musa said to his servant, 'We have become very tired from this journey, now bring the food.' And Musa had not felt any fatigue until they had passed the appointed place; rather, he began to feel tired only after passing the appointed place. The servant said, 'What can I say? When we reached that rock, I forgot the fish there (and I did not mention it to you).' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'That is the place we were seeking.' So, retracing their steps, they returned, step by step. As soon as they reached the rock, they saw a man with his head wrapped in a cloth. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) greeted him with salam. Khidr said, 'Where is salam customary in your land? (How did you greet me with salam?)' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'I am Musa.' Khidr said, 'The Musa of Bani Israel?' I said, 'Yes.' After that, Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'May I accompany you on the condition that you teach me some of the knowledge which Allah has granted you?' Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) said, 'You will not be able to remain patient with me (you will interrupt in between), because Allah Almighty has given me a special portion which He has not given you, and He has given you knowledge of which I am unaware.' (Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'If Allah wills, you will find me steadfast, I will not disobey your command.') Eventually, both set out walking along the riverbank, and there was no boat. Meanwhile, a boat passed by; they spoke to the boatmen about boarding. The people recognized Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him), so the boatmen let both of them board without fare. After that, Khidr (peace be upon him) inspected the boat, took out an adze, and removed a plank from the boat. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'What have you done? These people let us board without fare, and you have damaged their boat and wanted to drown everyone! You have done a strange thing.' Khidr (peace be upon him) said, 'Did I not tell you that you would not be able to remain patient with me?' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'Do not call me to account for my forgetfulness, and do not make my task difficult for me.' Meanwhile, a bird came and dipped its beak into the sea. Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) said, 'My knowledge and your knowledge cannot diminish Allah's knowledge even as much as this bird has diminished the water of the sea.' Then both of them disembarked from the boat and set out. On the seashore, a boy was playing with other children. Khidr (peace be upon him) caught him by the head and broke his neck with his hand. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'You have killed an innocent soul without reason; you have done a terrible thing.' Khidr (peace be upon him) said, 'Did I not tell you that you would not be able to remain patient with me?' Musa said, 'Alright, after this, if I ask you anything, then do not keep me with you; you have already excused me much.' Eventually, both set out again. As they walked, they reached a village and asked the villagers for food, but they refused to host them. There they saw a wall that was about to collapse; Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) gestured with his hand and set it straight.

Hazrat

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) with reference to Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Once Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) was standing and delivering a sermon before the Children of Israel. After the sermon ended, a man asked, "Who is the most knowledgeable among the people?" Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) replied, "I am the most knowledgeable." Allah disliked that Musa did not attribute knowledge to Allah, so revelation was sent to Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) that among My servants there is a servant who is more knowledgeable than you. Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) said, "O Lord, how can I meet him?" He was commanded, "Take a (roasted) fish in a basket with you (and set out on your journey). Where the fish is lost, you will find that person." Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) took a fish, placed it in the basket, and set out, and the incident occurred as Allah has described, until finally, after traveling, they reached a village. They asked the villagers for food, but they refused to host them. Then Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him) explained to them the reality of the incident with the boat, saying that he damaged it because of the king, so that when he passed by, he would not seize it. As for the boy, he was naturally a disbeliever, and his parents were very affectionate towards him; if he had lived, he would have led them into rebellion and disobedience. As for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city.
Hadith 21121
It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) with reference to Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The boy whom Khidr (peace be upon him) killed was naturally a disbeliever (if he had lived, he would have led his parents close to rebellion and disbelief).
Hadith 21122

Hadith 21125
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) with reference to Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Hazrat Jibreel (peace be upon him) struck his heel and caused the well of Zamzam to flow, the mother of Hazrat Ismail (peace be upon him) began gathering pebbles to make a boundary. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah's mercy be upon Hajrah (peace be upon her), who was the mother of Hazrat Ismail (peace be upon him). If she had left it as it was, it would have become a flowing stream."
Hadith 21126
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) with reference to Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would supplicate for someone, he would begin with himself. Thus, one day while mentioning Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him), he said: "May Allah's mercy descend upon us and upon Musa (peace be upon him). If he had been patient, Allah the Exalted would have narrated further details of his story, but he said: 'If I ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me with you; you have received an excuse from me.'"

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once he and Har bin Qais Fazari had a difference of opinion regarding the companion of Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) to whom he traveled and requested in the court of Allah to meet. Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was of the opinion that he was Hazrat Khidr (peace be upon him). Meanwhile, Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by. Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) called out to him and said, "My companion and I have differed regarding the person to whom Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) traveled and requested to meet. Have you heard anything from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this?" He replied, "Yes, I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Once Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) was addressing a gathering of Bani Israel when a man stood up and asked him, 'Is there anyone more knowledgeable than you in your deeds?' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) replied, 'No.' Upon this, Allah Almighty revealed that 'Our servant Khidr is more knowledgeable than you.' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) asked the way to meet him, so Allah Almighty made a fish a sign for him and said, 'When you do not find the fish, return, for there you will meet him.' Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) set out on the journey, and at one place they stopped and he said to his servant, 'Bring our breakfast, for we have faced much hardship in this journey.' There Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) found the fish missing, so both of them returned following their footsteps, and then the incident occurred as Allah Almighty has mentioned in His Book."
