Hadith of Abu Hurayrah Al-Dawsi from Ubayy ibn Ka‘b (may Allah be pleased with them)
Hadith 21094
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ ، قال حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَهَذَا لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ ، وَلَا فِي الْإِنْجِيلِ مِثْلَ أُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ ، وَهِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي ، وَهِيَ مَقْسُومَةٌ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ عَبْدِي ، وَلِعَبْدِي مَا سَأَلَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) with reference to Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has not revealed any Surah like Surah Al-Fatiha in the entire Torah and Gospel. This is the Sab'a Mathani (the seven oft-repeated verses), and (Allah says) this Surah is divided between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for.
Hadith 21095
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ سُورَةً مَا أُنْزِلَ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ ، وَلَا فِي الزَّبُورِ ، وَلَا فِي الْإِنْجِيلِ ، وَلَا فِي الْقُرْآنِ مِثْلُهَا ؟ " قُلْتُ : بَلَى ، قَالَ : " فَإِنِّي أَرْجُو أَنْ لَا أَخْرُجَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْبَابِ حَتَّى تَعْلَمَهَا " ثُمَّ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقُمْتُ مَعَهُ ، فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي فَجَعَلَ يُحَدِّثُنِي حَتَّى بَلَغَ قُرْبَ الْبَابِ ، قَالَ : فَذَكَّرْتُهُ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، السُّورَةَ الَّتِي قُلْتَ لِي ؟ قَالَ : " فَكَيْفَ تَقْرَأُ إِذَا قُمْتَ تُصَلِّي ؟ " فَقَرَأَ : بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ ، قَالَ : " هِيَ هِيَ ، وَهِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي ، وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُ بَعْدُ " ، قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ 22 سَأَلْتُ أَبِي ، عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَسُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، فَقَدَّمَ الْعَلَاءَ عَلَى سُهَيْلٍ ، وَقَالَ : لَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَحَدًا ذَكَرَ الْعَلَاءَ بِسُوءٍ ، وقَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَأَبُو صَالِحٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الْعَلَاءِ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) with reference to Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not teach you a Surah the like of which is not found in the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, nor even in the Qur'an itself?" I said, "Why not?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I hope that you will not leave through this door until you have learned it." Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and I stood up with him. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took my hand and began to talk to me, and as we walked, we reached near the door. I reminded the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Please tell me the Surah about which you spoke to me." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "When you stand to pray, what do you recite?" He recited Surah Al-Fatiha. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "That is the Surah. That is the Seven Oft-Repeated (verses), and that is the Great Qur'an which has been given to me."
