Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade throwing pebbles at someone and said that by this neither the enemy is subdued nor any game can be caught; however, it can break a tooth and injure an eye.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When the time for prayer comes and you are among a flock of goats, then perform the prayer; but if you are in a pen of camels, do not perform the prayer, because they are created from Satan (there is satanic nature in them).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Mughaffal that I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) reciting the Holy Qur’an on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah. If people had not gathered around me, I would have recited it to you in the manner of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) recited Surah Al-Fath. Muawiyah bin Qurrah says that if I too did not fear people gathering around, I would have demonstrated before you the style described by Hazrat Abdullah bin Mughaffal, showing how the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited.

Shababa and Abu Talib ibn Jaban al-Qari narrated to us, they said: Shu’bah narrated to us from Mu’awiyah ibn Qurrah from Abdullah ibn Mughaffal from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, a hadith similar to this. Ibn Jaban said in his narration: "Ā Ā".

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There is prayer between every two calls to prayer; whoever wishes may offer it."

Yazid bin Abdullah says that if our father heard us reciting Bismillah aloud, he would say, "Refrain from this, for I have prayed with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and both Caliphs, and I did not hear any of them reciting Bismillah aloud."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mughaffal narrates, who was among those people regarding whom this verse was revealed, "And there is no blame upon those who, when they came to you for you to carry them..." He says that I was holding a branch of a tree so that it would provide shade for the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the companions were pledging allegiance to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in his service. They were saying, "We pledge allegiance to you unto death." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "No, only on the condition that you will not flee."

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If dogs were not a community among the communities, I would have ordered their extermination. Therefore, kill every extremely black dog.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fear Allah regarding my companions, do not make them a target of criticism after me. Whoever loves them, loves them because of my love, and whoever hates them, hates them because of his hatred for me. Whoever hurts them, hurts me, and whoever hurts me, hurts Allah. Allah will soon seize him.

Abdullah ibn Awn al-Kharraz narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa'd narrated to us, from Ubaydah ibn Abi Ra'itah, with similar wording to this hadith.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade throwing pebbles and said that by it neither the enemy is subdued nor can game be caught, but rather it breaks teeth and puts out eyes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah Mazni that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Pray two rak'ahs before Maghrib." After a short while, he again said: "Pray two rak'ahs before Maghrib." When he said it a third time, he also said: "Whoever wishes may pray them," because the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not like that people should consider it a Sunnah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah Muzani that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Let not the Bedouins overpower you regarding the name of the Maghrib prayer. The Bedouins used to call it the Isha prayer."

Abdullah bin Mughaffal once heard his son making this supplication: "O Allah, I ask You for a white palace on the right side after entering Paradise." He said: "O my son, ask Allah only for Paradise and seek refuge from Hell, for I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that there will be people in this Ummah who will exceed the limits in supplication and ablution."

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that during the siege of Khaybar, I found a leather container in which there was fat. I picked it up and tucked it under my arm. Suddenly, I noticed that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was looking at me and smiling. At this, I felt ashamed.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When the time for prayer comes and you are among a flock of goats, then perform the prayer; but if you are in a pen of camels, do not perform the prayer, because their creation is from Satan (there is devilishness in their nature).

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: Do not pray in the places of camels, for their creation is like that of the jinn; when they become startled, you do not see their eyes and flames. However, you may pray in the sheepfolds, for they are closer to mercy.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting the Holy Qur'an on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah. If people had not gathered around me, I would have recited it to you in the manner of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Abdullah bin Mughaffal says that if my father heard us reciting Bismillah aloud, he would say: "Refrain from this." Yazid says: "I have not seen any companion of the Prophet (ﷺ) who hated innovation as much as he did. Because I have prayed with the Prophet (ﷺ) and the three caliphs, and I did not hear any of them reciting Bismillah aloud."

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is prayer between every two calls to prayer; whoever wishes may offer it."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Mughaffal that once he saw one of his companions throwing pebbles. He said to him, "Do not do this, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade anyone from throwing pebbles and said that neither can an enemy be subdued by it nor can any game be hunted by it. However, it can break a tooth or put out an eye." After some time, he again saw him throwing pebbles and said, "I narrated to you the hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and yet I see you doing the same thing. From today onwards, I will not speak to you in this manner."

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If dogs were not a community (ummah) among the communities, I would have ordered their extermination. Therefore, kill every extremely black dog.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade urinating in the bathhouse, because usually the disease of doubts (waswasah) originates from this.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever keeps dogs at their place, their reward decreases by one qirat every day.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting the Holy Qur'an on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah. If people had not gathered around me, I would have recited it to you in the manner of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah Al-Fath. It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) initially ordered the killing of dogs, but later said that there is no longer a need for this, and permitted keeping dogs for hunting and for guarding herds of goats. And he said that when a dog puts its mouth in a vessel, wash it seven times and scrub it with earth the eighth time.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that on the occasion of Khaybar, I found a leather container in which there was fat. I picked it up and placed it under my arm. Suddenly, I noticed that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was looking at me and smiling. At this, I felt ashamed.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever keeps a dog that is not for the protection of crops, hunting, or livestock, his reward will decrease by one qirat every day.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade urinating in the bathhouse because it generally leads to the affliction of whisperings (waswasah).

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If dogs were not a community (ummah), I would have ordered their extermination. Therefore, kill every extremely black dog. Whoever keeps a dog that is not for the purpose of guarding crops, hunting, or herds, their reward is diminished by one qirat every day. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You may pray among flocks of sheep, but not among herds of camels, because their creation is from Satan. (There is devilishness in their nature.)

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If a woman, a dog, or a donkey passes in front of a person who is praying, then his prayer is broken.

It is narrated from Ibn Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade striking with pebbles and said that with it neither the enemy can be subdued nor any game can be caught; rather, it can break a tooth and put out an eye.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There is prayer between every two calls to prayer; whoever wishes may offer it." (He said this twice.)

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever accompanies a funeral and offers the funeral prayer will receive the reward of one qirat, and whoever waits until the burial is completed will receive the reward of two qirats.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever keeps a dog that is not for the protection of fields, hunting, or livestock, their reward will decrease by one qirat every day.

Fudail bin Zaid Raqashi says that once we were sitting with Hazrat Abdullah bin Mughaffal when the topic of alcohol came up, and Hazrat Abdullah said that alcohol is forbidden. I asked, "Is it declared forbidden in the Book of Allah?" He replied, "What do you mean? Do you want me to tell you what I heard from the Prophet (peace be upon him) regarding this?" I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbidding the use of pumpkin, hantam, and muzaffat (for making nabidh). I asked the meaning of hantam, and he said, "Every green and white jug." I asked the meaning of muzaffat, and he said, "A vessel made of pitch, etc." And the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade the use of naqir. When I heard this hadith, I bought a vessel made of tanned leather—look, it is hanging there; nabidh is made in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fear Allah regarding my companions, do not make them a target of criticism after me. Whoever loves them, loves them because of my love, and whoever hates them, hates them because of his hatred for me. Whoever hurts them, hurts me, and whoever hurts me, hurts Allah. Allah will soon seize him.
