وَمِنْ حَدِيثِ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
And from the hadith of Jarir ibn Abdullah from the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 19192
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنْ قَوْمٍ يَعْمَلُونَ بِالْمَعَاصِي وَفِيهِمْ رَجُلٌ أَعَزُّ مِنْهُمْ وَأَمْنَعُ لَا يُغَيِّرُونَ إِلَّا عَمَّهُمْ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِعِقَابٍ " . أَوْ قَالَ : " أَصَابَهُمْ الْعِقَابُ ".
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whenever a people commit a sin and among them is an honorable and respected man who does not stop them, then Allah's punishment descends upon all of them."
Hadith 19193
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرًا ، يَقُولُ حِينَ مَاتَ الْمُغِيرَةُ وَاسْتَعْمَلَ قَرَابَتَهُ يَخْطُبُ ، فَقَامَ جَرِيرٌ ، فَقَالَ : أُوصِيكُمْ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ، وَأَنْ تَسْمَعُوا وَتُطِيعُوا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَكُمْ أَمِيرٌ ، اسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى لَهُ ، فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يُحِبُّ الْعَافِيَةَ ، أَمَّا بَعْدُ ، فَإِنِّي أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُبَايِعُهُ بِيَدِي هَذِهِ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ ، فَاشْتَرَطَ عَلَيَّ " والنُّصْحَ " فَوَرَبِّ هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ لَنَاصِحٌ .
Ziyad bin Alaqah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that on the day Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, Hazrat Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up to deliver a sermon. I heard him say: Fear Allah and remain dignified and calm until your next leader arrives, for your leader will surely come. Then he said: Intercede before your leader, for he likes to pardon. And after saying "Amma ba'd," he said: Once I presented myself before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said that I pledge allegiance to you on Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it a condition for me to wish well for every Muslim. I pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on this condition. By the Lord of this mosque! I am a well-wisher for all of you.
Hadith 19194
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فِي بَعْثٍ بِأَرْمِينِيَّةَ ، قَالَ : فَأَصَابَتْهُمْ مَخْمَصَةٌ أَوْ مَجَاعَةٌ ، قَالَ : فَكَتَبَ جَرِيرٌ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ : إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ النَّاسَ لَا يَرْحَمْهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " قَالَ : فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَأَتَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : آنْتَ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَأَقْفَلَهُمْ وَمَتَّعَهُمْ . قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ : وَكَانَ أَبِي فِي ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشِ ، فَجَاءَ بِقَطِيفَةٍ مِمَّا مَتَّعَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ.
Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) was included in the army of Armenia. The army was afflicted by famine, so Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) stating that I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever does not show mercy to people, Allah does not show mercy to him." Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) summoned him. When he came, he asked, "Did you really hear this hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied, "Yes!" Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Then include them in the battle and benefit them." Abu Ishaq says that his father was also in that army and he brought a sheet which Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) had given him.
Hadith 19195
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، قَالَ : حدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ ، قَالَ : فَلَقَّنِّني ، فَقَالَ : " فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ " وَالنُّصْحَ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I pledged allegiance to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the condition of listening and obeying, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed me to add the phrase "as much as I am able" and also set the condition of goodwill towards every Muslim.
Hadith 19196
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عُمَرٍو ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْتِلُ عُرْفَ فَرَسٍ بِأُصْبُعَيْهِ ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " الْخَيْلُ مَعْقُودٌ بِنَوَاصِيهَا الْخَيْرُ الْأَجْرُ وَالْمَغْنَمُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) braiding the mane of a horse with his fingers, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying that goodness, reward, and spoils are tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 19197
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ نَظْرَةِ الْفَجْأَةِ ، فَأَمَرَنِي ، فَقَالَ : " اصْرِفْ بَصَرَكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about accidentally glancing at a non-mahram woman, so the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed me to turn my gaze away.
Hadith 19198
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لِيَصْدُرْ الْمُصَدِّقُ مِنْ عِنْدِكُمْ وَهُوَ رَاضٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the one who collects zakat leaves from you, he should leave pleased with you.
Hadith 19199
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ عِلَاقَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرًا ، يَقُولُ : " بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى النُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ " . قَالَ مِسْعَرٌ ، عَنْ زِيَادٍ : فَإِنِّي لَكُمْ لَنَاصِحٌ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I pledged allegiance to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the condition of wishing well for every Muslim.
Hadith 19200
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ ابْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، أَنَّ قَوْمًا أَتَوْا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ مُجْتَابِي النِّمَارِ ، فَحَثَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ النَّاسَ عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ ، فَأَبْطَئُوا حَتَّى رُئِيَ ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ بِقِطْعَةِ تِبْرٍ فَطَرَحَهَا ، فَتَتَابَعَ النَّاسُ حَتَّى عُرِفَ ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ سَنَّ سُنَّةً حَسَنَةً ، فَعُمِلَ بِهَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ ، كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُهَا وَمِثْلُ أَجْرِ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يُنْتَقَصَ مِنْ أُجُورِهِمْ شَيْءٌ ، وَمَنْ سَنَّ سُنَّةً سَيِّئَةً عُمِلَ بِهَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ وِزْرُهَا وَوِزْرُ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا وَلَا يُنْقِصُ ذَلِكَ مِنْ أَوْزَارِهِمْ شَيْئًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that some people came who were barefoot, naked, wrapped in leopard skins, and had swords hanging by their sides. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged the people to give charity, but the people delayed, upon which the color of the blessed face of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed. Then an Ansari man came with a piece of silver and put it down. After that, people began to come continuously. The face of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to shine, and it seemed as if it was made of gold. He said: Whoever introduces a good practice in Islam, he will have its reward and the reward of those who act upon it after him, without their rewards being diminished in the least. And whoever introduces a bad practice in Islam, he will bear its sin and the sin of those who act upon it after him, without their sins being diminished in the least.
Hadith 19201
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ هَمَّامٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ جَرِيرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ مِطْهَرَةٍ ، وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ، فَقَالُوا : أَتَمْسَحُ عَلَى خُفَّيْكَ ؟ فَقَالَ : إِنِّي " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ مَرَّةً : يَمْسَحُ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ " . فَكَانَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ يُعْجِبُ أَصْحَابَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُونَ : إِنَّمَا كَانَ إِسْلَامُهُ بَعْدَ نُزُولِ الْمَائِدَةِ.
Hammam says that once Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) urinated, performed ablution, and wiped over his socks. Someone said to him, "How are you wiping over your socks when you have just urinated?" He replied, "Yes! I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) urinate, perform ablution, and wipe over his socks." Ibrahim says that the scholars of hadith give great importance to this hadith because Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam after the revelation of Surah Al-Ma'idah (in which is the verse of ablution).
Hadith 19202
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صُبَيْحٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ الْعَبْسِيِّ ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَحَثَّنَا عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ ، فَأَبْطَأَ النَّاسُ حَتَّى رُئِيَ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْغَضَبُ ، وَقَالَ مَرَّةً : حَتَّى بَانَ ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ جَاءَ بِصُرَّةٍ ، فَأَعْطَاهَا إِيَّاهُ ، ثُمَّ تَتَابَعَ النَّاسُ فَأَعْطَوْا حَتَّى رُئِيَ فِي وَجْهِهِ السُّرُورُ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ سَنَّ سُنَّةً حَسَنَةً كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُهَا وَمِثْلُ أَجْرِ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يُنْتَقَصَ مِنْ أُجُورِهِمْ شَيْءٌ ، وَمَنْ سَنَّ سُنَّةً سَيِّئَةً كَانَ عَلَيْهِ وِزْرُهَا وَمِثْلُ وِزْرِ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يُنْتَقَصَ مِنْ أَوْزَارِهِمْ شَيْءٌ " . قَالَ مَرَّةً يَعْنِي أَبَا مُعَاوِيَةَ : " مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَنْقُصَ ".

Hadith 19203
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ وَهُوَ الضَّرِيرُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ لَا يَرْحَمْ النَّاسَ لَا يَرْحَمْهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever does not show mercy to people, Allah Almighty does not show mercy to him.
Hadith 19204
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسٌ ، قَالَ قَالَ لِي جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَلَا تُرِيحُنِي مِنْ ذِي الْخَلَصَةِ ؟ " وَكَانَ بَيْتًا فِي خَثْعَمَ يُسَمَّى كَعْبَةَ الْيَمَانِيَةِ . قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقْتُ فِي خَمْسِينَ وَمِئَةِ فَارِسٍ مِنْ أَحْمَسَ ، وَكَانُوا أَصْحَابَ خَيْلٍ ، فَأَخْبَرْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنِّي لَا أَثْبُتُ عَلَى الْخَيْلِ ، فَضَرَبَ فِي صَدْرِي حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ أَثَرَ أَصَابِعِهِ فِي صَدْرِي ، وَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْهُ ، وَاجْعَلْهُ هَادِيًا مَهْدِيًّا " ، فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَيْهَا ، فَكَسَّرَهَا وَحَرَّقَهَا ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُبَشِّرُهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ جَرِيرٍ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ مَا جِئْتُكَ حَتَّى تَرَكْتُهَا كَأَنَّهَا جَمَلٌ أَجْرَبُ ، فَبَارَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى خَيْلِ أَحْمَسَ وَرِجَالِهَا خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "Why do you not relieve me from Dhi al-Khalasah?" This was a church in the tribe of Khath'am which was called the Yemeni Ka'bah. So I set out with one hundred and fifty men from Ahmas, all of whom were horsemen. I said to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that I cannot sit firmly on the back of a horse. So the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck his blessed hand on my chest until I saw the marks of his fingers on my chest, and he prayed, "O Allah! Grant him firmness and composure, and make him one who guides and is guided." Then I set out, and upon reaching there, I set it on fire. Then I sent a man to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to give him the good news, and he said, "By the One Who sent you with the truth, I left it in such a state as if it were a mangy camel." Upon this, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for blessings for Ahmas and its horsemen five times.
Hadith 19205
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسٌ ، قَالَ : قَالَ لِي جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ : كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ نَظَرَ إِلَى الْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَمَا إِنَّكُمْ سَتَرَوْنَ رَبَّكُمْ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ كَمَا تَرَوْنَ هَذَا ، لَا تُضَامُونَ أَوْ لَا تُضَارُّونَ " شَكَّ إِسْمَاعِيلُ " فِي رُؤْيَتِهِ ، فَإِنْ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَنْ لَا تُغْلَبُوا عَلَى صَلَاةٍ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا ، فَافْعَلُوا " ثُمَّ قَالَ : وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا سورة طه آية 130 .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, on the night of the full moon, we were with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon you will see your Lord just as you see this moon. You will have no difficulty in seeing your Lord. Therefore, if you have the strength not to be overpowered regarding the prayers before sunrise and before sunset, then do so (i.e., be diligent in these prayers)." Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Glorify your Lord with His praise before the rising of the sun and before its setting."

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ هِلَالٍ الْعَبْسِيُّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَسُنُّ عَبْدٌ سُنَّةً صَالِحَةً يَعْمَلُ بِهَا مَنْ بَعْدَهُ إِلَّا كَانَ لَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا لَا يُنْقَصُ مِنْ أُجُورِهِمْ شَيْءٌ ، وَلَا يَسُنُّ عَبْدٌ سُنَّةَ سُوءٍ يَعْمَلُ بِهَا مَنْ بَعْدَهُ إِلَّا كَانَ عَلَيْهِ وِزْرُهَا وَوِزْرُ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا لَا يُنْقَصُ مِنْ أَوْزَارِهِمْ شَيْءٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever introduces a good practice in Islam, he will have the reward of that act and also the reward of those who act upon it after him, and nothing will be diminished from their rewards. And whoever introduces a bad practice in Islam, he will bear its sin and also the sin of those who act upon it after him, and nothing will be diminished from their sins. The narrator says that once some villagers came to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! The people who come to us from your side to collect zakat oppress us." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Send him back pleased." They said, "Even if he oppresses us?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said, "Send him back pleased." Since I heard this hadith, I have always sent back the one who comes to me to collect zakat in a pleased manner.
Hadith 19207
: قَالَ : وَأَتَاهُ نَاسٌ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ ، فَقَالُوا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، يَأْتِينَا نَاسٌ مِنْ مُصَدِّقِيكَ يَظْلِمُونَا . قَالَ : " أَرْضُوا مُصَدِّقَكُمْ " قالوا : وَإِنْ ظَلَمَ ؟ قَالَ " أَرْضُوا مُصَدِّقَكُمْ " . قَالَ جَرِيرٌ : فَمَا صَدَرَ عَنِّي مُصَدِّقٌ مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُهَا مِنْ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا وَهُوَ عَنِّي رَاضٍ.
He said: Some people from the Bedouins came to him and said, "O Prophet of Allah, some of your tax collectors come to us and wrong us." He said: "Be content with your tax collectors." They said, "Even if he wrongs?" He said, "Be content with your tax collectors." Jarir said: "No tax collector has ever departed from me since I heard this from the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, except that he was pleased with me."
Hadith 19208
قَالَ : قَالَ : وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ يُحْرَمْ الرِّفْقَ يُحْرَمْ الْخَيْرَ " .
And the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) also said that whoever is deprived of gentleness is deprived of all goodness.
Hadith 19209
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي الضَّحَّاكُ خَالُ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ مُنْذِرِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي جَرِيرٍ بِالْبَوَارِيجِ فِي السَّوَادِ ، فَرَاحتُ الْبَقَرَ ، فَرَأَى بَقَرَةً أَنْكَرَهَا ، فَقَالَ : مَا هَذِهِ الْبَقَرَةُ ؟ قَالَ : بَقَرَةٌ لَحِقَتْ بِالْبَقَرِ ، فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَطُرِدَتْ حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " لَا يُؤْوِي الضَّالَّةَ إِلَّا ضَالٌّ " .
Munzir bin Jarir, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I was with my father, Hazrat Jarir, may Allah be pleased with him, at a place called Bawazij, among a herd. There, cows were coming and going ahead and behind. He saw a cow and it seemed unfamiliar to him. He asked, "What kind of cow is this?" The herdsman replied that it belongs to someone else and has joined our animals. On his order, it was removed from there until it disappeared from sight. Then he said, "I heard the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say that only a misguided person gives shelter to a lost thing."
Hadith 19210
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : " مَا حَجَبَنِي عَنْهُ مُنْذُ أَسْلَمْتُ ، وَلَا رَآنِي إِلَّا تَبَسَّمَ فِي وَجْهِي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that since I accepted Islam, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never kept a veil from me, and whenever he saw me, he saw me with a smile.
Hadith 19211
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شِبْلٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا أَبَقَ الْعَبْدُ ، بَرِئَتْ مِنْهُ الذِّمَّةُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If any slave runs away from his master, no one remains responsible for him; the responsibility ends."
Hadith 19212
قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ : حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الصَّلْتُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنٌ لِجَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " كَانَتْ نَعْلُ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ طُولُهَا ذِرَاعٌ " .
It is narrated from a son of Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the shoe of Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) was equal to the length of a hand.
Hadith 19213
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْيَقْظَانِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ ، عَنْ زَاذَانَ ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اللَّحْدُ لَنَا ، وَالشَّقُّ لِأَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The lahd (side niche grave) is for us, and the box-shaped grave is for the People of the Book.
Hadith 19214
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ , وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : حدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ طَارِقٍ التَّمِيمِيِّ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ : قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ ، عَنْ طَارِقٍ التَّمِيمِيِّ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : " مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى نِسْوَةٍ ، فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِنَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some women and greeted them with salam.
Hadith 19215
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ شَرِيكٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْمُهَاجِرُونَ وَالْأَنْصَارُ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ، وَالطُّلَقَاءُ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ وَالْعُتَقَاءُ مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ " . قَالَ شَرِيكٌ : فَحَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهُ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Muhajirun and the Ansar are guardians of one another. The freed ones are from among the Quraysh, and the emancipated ones are from among the Thaqif, and all of them will remain guardians of one another until the Day of Resurrection. The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 19216
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنْ قَوْمٍ يَكُونُ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِهِمْ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ بِالْمَعَاصِي هُمْ أَعَزُّ مِنْهُ وَأَمْنَعُ لَمْ يُغَيِّرُوا عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا أَصَابَهُمْ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْهُ بِعِقَابٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whenever a people commit sins and among them is an honorable and respected person who does not stop them, then Allah's punishment descends upon all of them.
Hadith 19217
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُدْرِكٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا زُرْعَةَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ لِجَرِيرٍ : " اسْتَنْصِتْ النَّاسَ " وَقَالَ : قَالَ : " لَا تَرْجِعُوا بَعْدِي كُفَّارًا يَضْرِبُ بَعْضُكُمْ رِقَابَ بَعْضٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him during the Farewell Pilgrimage, "O Jarir! Make the people quiet," then during his sermon he said, "Do not become disbelievers after me, striking the necks of one another."
Hadith 19218
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ الْعَبْسِيِّ ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " الطُّلَقَاءُ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ وَالْعُتَقَاءُ مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ ، وَالْمُهَاجِرُونَ ، وَالْأَنْصَارُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Muhajirun and the Ansar are guardians of one another; the freed ones are from among the Quraysh, and the emancipated ones are from among the Thaqif, and all are guardians of one another until the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 19219
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اشْتَرِطْ عَلَيَّ ، قَالَ : " تَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ لَا تُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا ، وَتُصَلِّي الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ ، وَتُؤَدِّي الزَّكَاةَ الْمَفْرُوضَةَ ، وَتَنْصَحُ لِلْمُسْلِمِ ، وَتَبْرَأُ مِنَ الْكَافِرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that at the time of accepting Islam, I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah! If there is any condition, please tell me." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Worship Allah and do not associate anyone with Him, perform the obligatory prayers, pay the obligatory zakat, wish well for every Muslim, and express disavowal from the disbeliever."
Hadith 19220
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ ، وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ ، وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ ، وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Islam is founded on five things: bearing witness that there is no god but Allah, establishing prayer, paying zakat, performing Hajj of the House of Allah, and fasting in Ramadan.
Hadith 19221
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُلَاثَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْجَزْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَجَلِيِّ ، قَالَ : " أَنَا أَسْلَمْتُ بَعْدَ مَا أُنْزِلَتْ الْمَائِدَةُ ، وَأَنَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ بَعْدَمَا أَسْلَمْتُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I accepted Islam after the revelation of Surah Ma'idah, and after accepting Islam, I saw the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over his socks.
Hadith 19222
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، قَالَا : حدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ أَخَاكُمْ النَّجَاشِيَّ قَدْ مَاتَ ، فَاسْتَغْفِرُوا لَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your brother Najashi has passed away, so you people pray for his forgiveness."
Hadith 19223
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَدْخُلُ الْمَخْرَجَ فِي خُفَّيْهِ ، ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ فَيَتَوَضَّأُ ، وَيَمْسَحُ عَلَيْهِمَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the toilet wearing leather socks, then after coming out, he would perform ablution and wipe over them.
Hadith 19224
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ : وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ ابْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : " بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ ، فَلَقِيتُ بِهَا رَجُلَيْنِ ذَا كَلَاعٍ ، وَذَا عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : وَأَخْبَرْتُهُمَا شَيْئًا مِنْ خَبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَقْبَلْنَا ، فَإِذَا قَدْ رُفِعَ لَنَا رَكْبٌ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، قَالَ : فَسَأَلْنَاهُمْ مَا الْخَبَرُ ؟ قَالَ : فَقَالُوا : قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَاسْتُخْلِفَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، وَالنَّاسُ صَالِحُونَ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لِي : أَخْبِرْ صَاحِبَكَ . قَالَ : فَرَجَعنَا ، ثُمَّ لَقِيتُ ذَا عَمْرٍو ، فَقَالَ لِي : يَا جَرِيرُ ، إِنَّكُمْ لَنْ تَزَالُوا بِخَيْرٍ مَا إِذَا هَلَكَ أَمِيرٌ ثُمَّ تَأَمَّرْتُمْ فِي آخَرَ ، فَإِذَا كَانَتْ بِالسَّيْفِ غَضِبْتُمْ غَضَبَ الْمُلُوكِ ، وَرَضِيتُمْ رِضَا الْمُلُوكِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Yemen. There I met two men, Dhu’l-Kala‘ and Dhu‘Amr. I conveyed to them some matters from the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then we set out to return from Yemen, and on the way, we encountered a group of riders coming from Madinah Munawwarah. We asked them about the situation in Madinah Munawwarah. They informed us that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had passed away, Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) had been appointed as the Caliph, and the people were well. They asked me to tell them about my companion. Then, on the return journey, I met Dhu‘Amr. He said to me, “O Jarir! You people will remain on goodness as long as, after the death of one leader, you appoint another, but when the matter reaches the sword, you will become angry like kings and pleased like kings.”
Hadith 19225
حَدَّثَنَا مَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ يَزِيدَ الْأَوْدِيَّ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ جرير ، عن النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا أَبَقَ الْعَبْدُ ، فَلَحِقَ بِالْعَدُوِّ ، فَمَاتَ ، فَهُوَ كَافِرٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When someone flees and joins the enemy and dies there, then he is a disbeliever.
Hadith 19226
حَدَّثَنَا مَكِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْأَوْدِيُّ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ ، وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ ، وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ ، وَصِيَامِ رَمَضَانَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Islam is founded on five things: bearing witness that there is no god but Allah, establishing prayer, paying zakat, performing Hajj of the House of Allah, and fasting in Ramadan.
Hadith 19227
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُبَيْلٍ ، قَالَ جَرِيرٌ : لَمَّا دَنَوْتُ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ ، أَنَخْتُ رَاحِلَتِي ، ثُمَّ حَلَلْتُ عَيْبَتِي ، ثُمَّ لَبِسْتُ حُلَّتِي ، ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَإِذَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ ، فَرَمَانِي النَّاسُ بِالْحَدَقِ ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ لِجَلِيسِي : يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، هَلْ ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَمْرِي شَيْئًا ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، ذَكَرَكَ بِأَحْسَنِ الذِّكْرِ ، بَيْنَمَا هُوَ يَخْطُبُ إِذْ عَرَضَ لَهُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ فَقَالَ : " إِنَّهُ سَيَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ هَذَا الْفَجِّ مِنْ خَيْرِ ذِي يَمَنٍ ، أَلَا وَإِنَّ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ مَسْحَةُ مَلَكٍ " . قَالَ جَرِيرٌ : فَحَمِدْتُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when I reached near Madinah Munawwarah, I made my mount sit down, took off my lower garment, put on a cloak, and presented myself in the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was giving at that time. People began to look at me from the corners of their eyes. I asked the man sitting next to me, "O servant of Allah! Has the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned me?" He replied, "Yes! Just now the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned you in an excellent manner and, while delivering the sermon, said in the middle: 'Just now, from this door or window, a best man from Yemen will come to you, and on his face will be the effect of an angel's hand having touched it.'" Upon this, I thanked Allah for this blessing.
Hadith 19228
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : " بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى إِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ ، وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ ، وَالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ ، وَالنُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I pledged allegiance to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) on the conditions of establishing prayer, paying zakat, listening and obeying, and wishing well for every Muslim.
Hadith 19229
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ جَرِيرٌ : " بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ ، وَعَلَى أَنْ أَنْصَحَ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ " . قَالَ : وَكَانَ جَرِيرٌ إِذَا اشْتَرَى الشَّيْءَ وَكَانَ أَعْجَبَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ ثَمَنِهِ ، قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ : تَعْلَمَنَّ وَاللَّهِ لَمَا أَخَذْنَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا مِمَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ ، كَأَنَّهُ يُرِيدُ بِذَلِكَ الْوَفَاءَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I pledged allegiance to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the conditions of establishing prayer, paying zakat, listening and obeying, and wishing well for every Muslim. The narrator says that whenever Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) bought something that he liked, he would say to the seller, "Remember! The thing we have taken is more beloved to us than what we have given you (the price)," and by this he meant the full payment of the price.
Hadith 19230
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ قَوْمٍ يُعْمَلُ فِيهِمْ بِالْمَعَاصِي ، هُمْ أَعَزُّ وَأَكْثَرُ مِمَّنْ يَعْمَلُهُ ، لَمْ يُغَيِّرُوهُ إِلَّا عَمَّهُمْ اللَّهُ بِعِقَابٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever a people commit a sin and among them is an honorable and respected man who does not stop them, then Allah's punishment descends upon all of them."
Hadith 19231
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُجَالِدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا جَاءَكُمْ الْمُصَدِّقُ ، فَلَا يُفَارِقُكُمْ إِلَّا عَنْ رِضًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the one who collects zakat leaves from you, he should leave pleased with you.
