Hadith of Abu Musa al-Ghafiqi (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 18946
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قال عبد الله بن أحمد : وَكَتَبَ بِهِ إِلَيَّ قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ ، أَنَّ أَبَا مُوسَى الْغَافِقِيّ سَمِعَ ، عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَحَادِيثَ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى : إِنَّ صَاحِبَكُمْ هَذَا لَحَافِظٌ أَوْ هَالِكٌ ، إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ آخِرُ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَا أَنْ قَالَ : " عَلَيْكُمْ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ ، وَسَتَرْجِعُونَ إِلَى قَوْمٍ يُحِبُّونَ الْحَدِيثَ عَنِّي ، فَمَنْ قَالَ عَلَيَّ مَا لَمْ أَقُلْ فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ ، وَمَنْ حِفْظَ عَنِّي شَيْئًا فَلْيُحَدِّثْهُ " .
Hazrat Abu Musa Ghafiqi (may Allah be pleased with him) heard Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrating some ahadith from the pulpit regarding the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: "This companion of yours is either a memorizer or one who will perish. The last advice the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us was this: 'Hold fast to the Book of Allah. Soon you will reach a people who will love the narration of hadith from me. Remember! Whoever attributes something to me which I have not said, let him make his abode in Hell. And whoever preserves my hadith well, he should convey it further.'"
