حَدِيثُ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hadith of al-Nu‘man ibn Bashir from the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 18347
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، وَالشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " حَلَالٌ بَيِّنٌ ، وَحَرَامٌ بَيِّنٌ ، وَشُبُهَاتٌ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ ، مَنْ تَرَكَ الشُّبُهَاتِ فَهُوَ لِلْحَرَامِ أَتْرَكُ ، وَمَحَارِمُ اللَّهِ حِمًى ، فَمَنْ أَرْتَعَ حَوْلَ الْحِمَى ، كَانَ قَمِنًا أَنْ يَرْتَعَ فِيهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters. Whoever leaves these doubtful matters will easily be able to avoid the unlawful. And the prohibitions of Allah are His pastures, and whoever grazes his animals around the pasture, there is a fear that he may enter into it."
Hadith 18348
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، وَالشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَيْرُ النَّاسِ قَرْنِي ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ يَأْتِي قَوْمٌ تَسْبِقُ أَيْمَانُهُمْ شَهَادَتَهُمْ وَشَهَادَتُهُمْ أَيْمَانَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best people are those of my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. After that, a people will come whose oath will precede their testimony and whose testimony will precede their oath.
Hadith 18349
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، وَيُونُسُ ، قَالاَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ الْقَرْنُ الَّذِينَ بُعِثْتُ فِيهِمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ " ، قَالَ حَسَنٌ : " ثُمَّ يَنْشَأُ أَقْوَامٌ تَسْبِقُ أَيْمَانُهُمْ شَهَادَتَهُمْ ، وَشَهَادَتُهُمْ أَيْمَانَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best people are those of my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. After that, a people will come whose swearing will precede their testimony and whose testimony will precede their swearing.
Hadith 18350
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ رَفَعَهُ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ مِنَ الزَّبِيبِ خَمْرًا ، وَمِنْ التَّمْرِ خَمْرًا ، وَمِنْ الْحِنْطَةِ خَمْرًا ، وَمِنْ الشَّعِيرِ خَمْرًا ، وَمِنْ الْعَسَلِ خَمْرًا " .
It is narrated marfu'an from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that wine is made from raisins, from dates, from wheat, from barley, and from honey.
Hadith 18351
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، فَذَكَرَ حَدِيثًا ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : كَسَفَتْ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَكَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ يَسْأَلُ ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ يَسْأَلُ ، حَتَّى انْجَلَتْ الشَّمْسُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَقُولُونَ أَوْ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ إِذَا انْكَسَفَ وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمَا ، فَإِنَّمَا يَنْكَسِفُ لِمَوْتِ عَظِيمٍ مِنْ عُظَمَاءِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ ، وَإِنَّ ذَاكَ لَيْسَ كَذَاكَ ، وَلَكِنَّهُمَا خَلْقَانِ مِنْ خَلْقِ اللَّهِ ، فَإِذَا تَجَلَّى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ ، خَشَعَ لَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the blessed era of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there was once a solar eclipse. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform two rak'ahs of prayer and inquire about the situation from the people, then perform two rak'ahs and inquire about the situation, until the sun became completely bright. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In the age of ignorance, people used to say that if either the moon or the sun is eclipsed, it is due to the death of a great person among the people of the earth, whereas there is no such thing. Both of these are Allah's creations; however, when Allah manifests His glory to His creation, it bows down before Him.
Hadith 18352
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، وَمَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ يُسَيْعٍ الْكِنْدِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِنَّ الدُّعَاءَ هُوَ الْعِبَادَةُ " ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ : ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ، إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي سورة غافر آية 60 " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Supplication is the essence of worship. Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Call upon Me; I will respond to you. Those who are arrogant regarding My worship..."
Hadith 18353
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ الْعَوَّامِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ مِنْ آلِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ : خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَنَحْنُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ ، فرَفَعَ بَصَرَهُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ ، ثُمَّ خَفَضَ ، حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ قَدْ حَدَثَ فِي السَّمَاءِ شَيْءٌ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَا إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي أُمَرَاءُ يَكْذِبُونَ وَيَظْلِمُونَ ، فَمَنْ صَدَّقَهُمْ بِكَذِبِهِمْ ، وَمَالَأَهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ ، فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي ، وَلَا أَنَا مِنْهُ ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يُصَدِّقْهُمْ بِكَذِبِهِمْ ، وَلَمْ يُمَالِئْهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ ، فَهُوَ مِنِّي ، وَأَنَا مِنْهُ ، أَلَا وَإِنَّ دَمَ الْمُسْلِمِ كَفَّارَتُهُ ، أَلَا وَإِنَّ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، هُنَّ الْبَاقِيَاتُ الصَّالِحَاتُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were in the mosque after the Isha prayer when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his gaze towards the sky and then lowered it. We thought that perhaps some new event had occurred in the sky. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Be aware! After me, some liars and oppressive rulers will come. Whoever considers their lies to be truth and assists them in their oppression, he has no relation with me and I have no relation with him. And whoever does not consider their lies to be truth and does not assist them in their oppression, then he is from me and I am from him. Be aware! The blood of a Muslim is its own expiation. Be aware! Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah, and Allahu Akbar are the everlasting good deeds (the righteous deeds that remain)."
Hadith 18354
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ نَحَلَهُ نُحْلًا ، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ أُمُّ النُّعْمَانِ : أَشْهِدْ لِابْنِي عَلَى هَذَا النُّحْلِ ، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : " أَوَكُلَّ وَلَدِكَ أَعْطَيْتَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَ هَذَا ؟ " قَالَ : لَا . قَالَ : فَكَرِهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَشْهَدَ لَهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father gave him a gift. His mother said to him, "Make someone a witness over this gift for my son." His father went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this matter. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Have you given all your sons the same as you have given to him?" He replied, "No." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not approve of making anyone a witness to it.
Hadith 18355
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ كَمَثَلِ الْجَسَدِ ، إِذَا اشْتَكَى الرَّجُلُ رَأْسَهُ تَدَاعَى لَهُ سَائِرُ جَسَدِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of a believer is like that of a body; if the head is in pain, the whole body feels the pain.
Hadith 18356
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ ، يَقُولُ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ الْكُوفَةِ : وَاللَّهِ " مَا كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ قَالَ : نَبِيُّكُمْ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام يَشْبَعُ مِنَ الدَّقَلِ ، وَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ دُونَ أَلْوَانِ التَّمْرِ وَالزُّبْدِ ! " .
Simak bin Harb (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I heard Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) saying this from the pulpit of Kufa: By Allah! The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never filled his stomach with inferior dates for even a month, and you people are not satisfied unless you are given the varieties of dates and butter.
Hadith 18357
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَخْطُبُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : أَحْمَدُ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى ، " فَرُبَّمَا أَتَى عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الشَّهْرُ يَظَلُّ يَتَلَوَّى ، مَا يَشْبَعُ مِنَ الدَّقَلِ " .
Simak bin Harb (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I heard Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) saying on the pulpit of Kufa: By Allah! The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never filled his stomach with inferior dates for even a single month.
Hadith 18358
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، وَحُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : ذَهَبَ أَبِي بَشِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيُشْهِدَهُ عَلَى نُحْلٍ نَحَلَنِيهِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَكُلَّ بَنِيكَ نَحَلْتَ مِثْلَ هَذَا ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : " فَأَرْجِعْهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father gave him a gift. His mother said to his father, "Make someone a witness over this gift for my son." His father went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this matter. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Have you given all your sons the same as you have given to him?" He replied, "No." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Go back."
Hadith 18359
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الضُّحَى ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ : انْطَلَقَ بِي أَبِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَعْنِي يُشْهِدُهُ عَلَى عَطِيَّةٍ يُعْطِينِيهَا ، فَقَالَ : " هَلْ لَكَ وَلَدٌ غَيْرُهُ ؟ " قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " فَسَوِّ بَيْنَهُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father gave him a gift and came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to make him a witness to it and mentioned the matter. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Do you have any other children besides him?" He said, "Yes!" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then give to all equally."
Hadith 18360
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ يَخْطُبُ ، وَعَلَيْهِ خَمِيصَةٌ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : لَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " أَنْذَرْتُكُمْ النَّارَ " . فَلَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مَوْضِعَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، سَمِعَ صَوْتَهُ.
Simak (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I heard Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him), wrapped in a cloak, saying during a sermon that I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering a sermon, and he was saying: I have warned you about Hell. If a person were at such and such a distance, even then he would have heard the voice of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 18361
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَثَلُ الْقَائِمِ عَلَى حُدُودِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى ، وَالْمُدَّهِنِ فِيهَا ، كَمَثَلِ قَوْمٍ اسْتَهَمُوا عَلَى سَفِينَةٍ فِي الْبَحْرِ ، فَأَصَابَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَسْفَلَهَا ، وَأَصَابَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَعْلَاهَا ، فَكَانَ الَّذِينَ فِي أَسْفَلِهَا يَصْعَدُونَ ، فَيَسْتَقُونَ الْمَاءَ ، فَيَصُبُّونَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ فِي أَعْلَاهَا ، فَقَالَ الَّذِينَ فِي أَعْلَاهَا : لَا نَدَعُكُمْ تَصْعَدُونَ ، فَتُؤْذُونَنَا ، فَقَالَ الَّذِينَ فِي أَسْفَلِهَا : فَإِنَّنَا نَنْقُبُهَا مِنْ أَسْفَلِهَا ، فَنَسْتَقِي " قَالَ : " فَإِنْ أَخَذُوا عَلَى أَيْدِيهِمْ ، فَمَنَعُوهُمْ ، نَجَوْا جَمِيعًا ، وَإِنْ تَرَكُوهُمْ غَرِقُوا جَمِيعًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of those who establish the limits set by Allah and those who are lenient regarding them is like a people who set out on a sea journey. Some of them sit in the lower part (of the boat) and some in the upper part. Those in the lower part have to go up to fetch water, and some water spills on those above. Seeing this, the people above say, “We will not let you come up anymore, you cause us trouble.” The people below reply, “Alright, then we will make a hole in the bottom of the boat and get water from there.” Now, if the people above hold their hands and stop them from this, then all will be saved; otherwise, all will drown.
Hadith 18362
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ الطَّحَّانَ ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَوْ عَنْ أَخِيهِ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ مِنْ جَلَالِ اللَّهِ مِنْ تَسْبِيحِهِ وَتَحْمِيدِهِ وَتَكْبِيرِهِ وَتَهْلِيلِهِ ، يَتَعَاطَفْنَ حَوْلَ الْعَرْشِ ، لَهُنَّ دَوِيٌّ كَدَوِيِّ النَّحْلِ ، يُذَكِّرُونَ بِصَاحِبِهِنَّ ، أَلَا يُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ لَا يَزَالَ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ شَيْءٌ يُذَكِّرُ بِهِ ؟ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Those people who remember Allah by glorifying, praising, magnifying, and declaring His oneness due to His majesty, their words of glorification revolve around the Throne, and a buzzing sound like that of bees comes from them, and they continue to mention the one who remembers (Allah). Does any one of you not like that something should continuously mention him in the presence of Allah?
Hadith 18363
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَيَّانَ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلَتْ أُمِّي أَبِي بَعْضَ الْمَوْهِبَةِ لِي ، فَوَهَبَهَا لِي ، فَقَالَتْ : لَا أَرْضَى حَتَّى تُشْهِدَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَأَخَذَ أَبِي بِيَدِي وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ ، وَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أُمَّ هَذَا ابْنَةَ رَوَاحَةَ زَاوَلَتْنِي عَلَى بَعْضِ الْمَوْهِبَةِ لَهُ ، وَإِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبْتُهَا لَهُ ، وَقَدْ أَعْجَبَهَا أَنْ أُشْهِدَكَ ، قَالَ : " يَا بَشِيْرُ ، أَلَكَ ابْنٌ غَيْرُ هَذَا ؟ " قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : قَالَ : " فَوَهَبْتَ لَهُ مِثْلَ الَّذِي وَهَبْتَ لِهَذَا ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : " فَلَا تُشْهِدْنِي إِذًا ، فَإِنِّي لَا أَشْهَدُ عَلَى جَوْرٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that once my mother asked my father to give me something as a gift. He gave me that thing as a gift. She said that I will not be satisfied until you make the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) a witness to this. At that time, I was young. My father took my hand and went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! His mother, the daughter of Rawaha, has asked me to give this child something as a gift, so I have done so. She wants me to make you a witness to this." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Basheer! Do you have any other sons besides him?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Have you given all your sons the same as you have given him?" He said, "No." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not make me a witness to this, for I cannot be a witness to injustice."
Hadith 18364
حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنِي حُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سِمَاكُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ ، أَوْ الصُّفُوفِ الْأُوَلِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Allah Almighty and His angels send blessings upon those who join the first row (Allah Almighty accepts their supplications and the angels pray for mercy for them).
Hadith 18365
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : انْكَسَفَتْ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَخَرَجَ ، فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَيَسْأَلُ ، وَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَيَسْأَلُ ، حَتَّى انْجَلَتْ . فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ رِجَالًا يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ إِذَا انْكَسَفَ وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمَا ، فَإِنَّمَا يَنْكَسِفُ لِمَوْتِ عَظِيمٍ مِنَ الْعُظَمَاءِ ، وَلَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ ، وَلَكِنَّهُمَا خَلْقَانِ مِنْ خَلْقِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، فَإِذَا تَجَلَّى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ ، خَشَعَ لَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the blessed era of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there was once a solar eclipse. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform two rak'ahs of prayer and inquire about the situation from the people, then perform two rak'ahs and inquire about the situation, until the sun became completely bright. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In the age of ignorance, people used to say that if either the moon or the sun is eclipsed, it is due to the death of a great person among the people of the earth, whereas there is no such thing. Both of these are Allah's creations; however, when Allah manifests His glory to His creation, it bows down before Him.
Hadith 18366
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : حَمَلَنِي أَبِي بَشِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، اشْهَدْ أَنِّي قَدْ نَحَلْتُ النُّعْمَانَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، شَيْئًا سَمَّاهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " أَكُلَّ وَلَدِكَ نَحَلْتَ مِثْلَ الَّذِي نَحَلْتَ النُّعْمَانَ ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : " فَأَشْهِدْ غَيْرِي " ، قال : ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَلَيْسَ يَسُرُّكَ أَنْ يَكُونُوا إِلَيْكَ فِي الْبِرِّ سَوَاءً ؟ " قَالَ : بَلَى ، قَالَ : " فَلَا إِذًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that my father took me to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Please bear witness that I have given such and such things to Nu'man." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Have you given the same to all your sons as you have given to him?" He replied, "No." So the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then make someone else a witness." After a little while, he said, "Do you not like that they should all be equal with you in kindness?" He said, "Why not." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then it will not be so."
Hadith 18367
قَالَ : عَبْد اللَّهِ : وَجَدْتُ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي بِخَطِّ يَدِهِ : كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ أَبُو تَوْبَةَ يَعْنِي الْحَلَبِيَّ فَكَانَ فِي كِتَابِهِ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ ، عَنْ أَخِيهِ زَيْدِ بْنِ سَلَّامٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلَّامٍ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ إِلَى جَانِبِ مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : مَا أُبَاليِ أَنْ لَا أَعْمَلَ بَعْدَ الْإِسْلَامِ إِلَّا أَنْ أَسْقِيَ الْحَاجَّ ، وَقَالَ آخَرُ : مَا أُبَاليِ أَنْ لَا أَعْمَلَ عَمَلًا بَعْدَ الْإِسْلَامِ إِلَّا أَنْ أَعْمُرَ الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ ، وَقَالَ آخَرُ : الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَفْضَلُ مِمَّا قُلْتُمْ ، فَزَجَرَهُمْ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَ : " لَا تَرْفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَكُمْ عِنْدَ مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَهُوَ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ ، وَلَكِنْ إِذَا صَلَّيْتُ الْجُمُعَةَ ، دَخَلْتُ ، فَاسْتَفْتَيْتُهُ فِيمَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيهِ " ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : أَجَعَلْتُمْ سِقَايَةَ الْحَاجِّ وَعِمَارَةَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ كَمَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ سورة التوبة آية 19 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ كُلِّهَا .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was sitting near the pulpit of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man said, “After accepting Islam, I do not care if I do any deed except that I give water to the pilgrims.” Another said, “I maintain the Sacred Mosque, so after accepting Islam, I do not care about any other deed.” And a third said, “The best of what you have mentioned is Jihad.” Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) scolded them and said, “Do not raise your voices near the pulpit of the Prophet. It was Friday, and after the prayer, I will go to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him about the matter in which you are differing.” At that moment, this verse was revealed: “Do you consider the giving of water to the pilgrims and the maintenance and construction of the Sacred Mosque equal to the one who believes in Allah and the Last Day?”
Hadith 18368
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَامِرٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَوْمَأَ بِإِصْبَعَيْهِ إِلَى أُذُنَيْهِ : " إِنَّ الْحَلَالَ بَيِّنٌ وَالْحَرَامَ بَيِّنٌ ، وَإِنَّ بَيْنَ الْحَلَالِ وَالْحَرَامِ مُشْتَبِهَاتٍ ، لَا يَدْرِي كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ أَمِنَ الْحَلَالِ هِيَ ، أَمْ مِنَ الْحَرَامِ ، فَمَنْ تَرَكَهَا ، اسْتَبْرَأَ لِدِينِهِ وَعِرْضِهِ ، وَمَنْ وَاقَعَهَا ، يُوشِكُ أَنْ يُوَاقِعَ الْحَرَامَ ، فَمَنْ رَعَى إِلَى جَنْبِ حِمًى ، يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَرْتَعَ فِيهِ ، وَلِكُلِّ مَلِكٍ حِمًى ، وَإِنَّ حِمَى اللَّهِ مَحَارِمُهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters. Whoever leaves the doubtful matters will easily be able to leave the unlawful. And the sanctities of Allah are His pastures, and whoever grazes his animals around the pasture, there is a fear that he may enter into it."
Hadith 18369
قَالَ : وَسَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ : إِنَّ أَبِي بَشِيرًا وَهَبَ لِي هِبَةً ، فَقَالَتْ أُمِّي : أَشْهِدْ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي ، فَانْطَلَقَ بِي حَتَّى أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أُمَّ هَذَا الْغُلَامِ سَأَلَتْنِي أَنْ أَهَبَ لَهُ هِبَةً ، فَوَهَبْتُهَا لَهُ ، فَقَالَتْ : أَشْهِدْ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَتَيْتُكَ لِأُشْهِدَكَ ، فَقَالَ : " رُوَيْدَكَ ، أَلَكَ وَلَدٌ غَيْرُهُ ؟ " قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " كُلُّهُمْ أَعْطَيْتَهُ كَمَا أَعْطَيْتَهُ ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : " فَلَا تُشْهِدْنِي إِذًا ، إِنِّي لَا أَشْهَدُ عَلَى جَوْرٍ ، إِنَّ لِبَنِيكَ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الْحَقِّ أَنْ تَعْدِلَ بَيْنَهُمْ " .

Hadith 18370
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَامِرٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَخْطُبُ يَقُولُ ، وَأَوْمَأَ بِأُصْبُعِهِ إِلَى أُذُنَيْهِ ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَثَلُ الْقَائِمِ عَلَى حُدُودِ اللَّهِ ، وَالْوَاقِعِ فِيهَا ، أَوْ الْمُدَّهِنِ فِيهَا ، مَثَلُ قَوْمٍ رَكِبُوا سَفِينَةً ، فَأَصَابَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَسْفَلَهَا وَأَوْعَرَهَا وَشَرَّهَا ، وَأَصَابَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَعْلَاهَا ، فَكَانَ الَّذِينَ فِي أَسْفَلِهَا إِذَا اسْتَقَوْا الْمَاءَ ، مَرُّوا عَلَى مَنْ فَوْقَهُمْ ، فَآذَوْهُمْ ، فَقَالُوا : لَوْ خَرَقْنَا فِي نَصِيبِنَا خَرْقًا ، فَاسْتَقَيْنَا مِنْهُ ، وَلَمْ نُؤْذِ مَنْ فَوْقَنَا ، فَإِنْ تَرَكُوهُمْ وَأَمْرَهُمْ ، هَلَكُوا جَمِيعًا ، وَإِنْ أَخَذُوا عَلَى أَيْدِيهِمْ ، نَجَوْا جَمِيعًا " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say with his own ears: The example of those who establish the limits set by Allah and those who are lenient regarding them is like a people who set out on a sea journey. Some of them sit in the lower part (of the boat) and some sit in the upper part. The people in the lower part have to go up to get water, and some water spills on those above. Seeing this, the people above say, “Now we will not let you come up; you cause us trouble.” The people below reply, “Fine, then we will make a hole in the bottom of the boat and get water from there.” Now, if the people above hold their hands and stop them from this, then all will be saved; otherwise, all will drown. The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.
Hadith 18371
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَثَلُ الْقَائِمِ عَلَى حُدُودِ اللَّهِ " . فَذَكَرَهُ . .
Abu Muawiyah narrated to us, he said: Al-A'mash narrated to us, from Al-Sha'bi, from Al-Nu'man ibn Bashir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The example of the one who stands by the limits of Allah..." and he mentioned it.
Hadith 18372
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَامِرًا يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَثَلُ الْقَائِمِ عَلَى حُدُودِ اللَّهِ " . فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.
Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, Zakariya narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Amir say: I heard al-Nu'man ibn Bashir say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The example of the one who stands by the limits of Allah..." Then he mentioned the hadith.
Hadith 18373
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَامِرٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَخْطُبُ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي تَوَادِّهِمْ وَتَرَاحُمِهِم وَتَعَاطُفِهِمْ مَثَلُ الْجَسَدِ ، إِذَا اشْتَكَى مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ تَدَاعَى لَهُ سَائِرُ الْجَسَدِ بِالسَّهَرِ وَالْحُمَّى " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of the believers in their mutual love, compassion, and kindness is like that of a body; when one limb suffers, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever.
Hadith 18374
وَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ الْحَلَالَ بَيِّنٌ ، وَالْحَرَامَ بَيِّنٌ ، وَبَيْنَهُمَا مُشْتَبِهَاتٌ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ ، فَمَنْ اتَّقَى الشُّبُهَاتِ اسْتَبْرَأَ فِيهِ لِدِينِهِ وَعِرْضِهِ ، وَمَنْ وَاقَعَهَا وَاقَعَ الْحَرَامَ كَالرَّاعِي يَرْعَى حَوْلَ الْحِمَى يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَرْتَعَ فِيهِ ، أَلَا وَإِنَّ لِكُلِّ مَلِكٍ حِمًى ، وَإِنَّ حِمَى اللَّهِ مَا حَرَّمَ ، أَلَا وَإِنَّ فِي الْإِنْسَانِ مُضْغَةً إِذَا صَلُحَتْ صَلُحَ الْجَسَدُ كُلُّهُ ، وَإِذَا فَسَدَتْ فَسَدَ الْجَسَدُ كُلُّهُ أَلَا وَهِيَ الْقَلْبُ " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters. Whoever leaves these doubtful matters will easily be able to leave the unlawful. And the sanctities of Allah are His pastures, and whoever grazes his animals around the pasture is at risk of entering it. Remember, there is a piece of flesh in the body; if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Remember! That is the heart."
Hadith 18375
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَامِرًا يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ " فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ.
Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, Zakariya narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Amir say: I heard al-Nu'man ibn Bashir say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The example of the believers..." and he mentioned the hadith.
Hadith 18376
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسَوِّي بَيْنَ الصُّفُوفِ ، كَمَا تُسَوَّى الْقِدَاحُ ، أَوْ الرِّمَاحُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to straighten the rows in the same way as arrows are straightened.
Hadith 18377
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : أَنَا أَعْلَمُ النَّاسِ أَوْ كَأَعْلَمِ النَّاسِ بِوَقْتِ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِلْعِشَاءِ ، " كَانَ يُصَلِّيهَا بَعْدَ سُقُوطِ الْقَمَرِ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ مِنْ أَوَّلِ الشَّهْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that I know the time of the 'Isha prayer of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) better than anyone else. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer this prayer on the third night at the beginning of the month after the moon had set.
Hadith 18378
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سَيَّارٌ ، وَأَخْبَرَنَا مُغِيرَةُ ، وَأَخْبَرَنَا دَاوُدُ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ . ح وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ ، وَمُجَالِدٌ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : نَحَلَنِي أَبِي نُحْلًا ، قَالَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ مِنْ بَيْنِ الْقَوْمِ : نَحَلَهُ غُلَامًا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَتْ لَهُ أُمِّي عَمْرَةُ بِنْتُ رَوَاحَةَ : ائْتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَشْهِدْهُ ، قَالَ : فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي نَحَلْتُ ابْنِي النُّعْمَانَ نُحْلًا ، وَإِنَّ عَمْرَةَ سَأَلَتْنِي أَنْ أُشْهِدَكَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَكَ وَلَدٌ سِوَاهُ ؟ " قَالَ : قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " فَكُلَّهُمْ أَعْطَيْتَ مِثْلَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَ النُّعْمَانَ ؟ " فَقَالَ : لَا ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُحَدِّثِينَ : " هَذَا جَوْرٌ " ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : " هَذَا تَلْجِئَةٌ ، فَأَشْهِدْ عَلَى هَذَا غَيْرِي " . وَقَالَ مُغِيرَةُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : " أَلَيْسَ يَسُرُّكَ أَنْ يَكُونُوا لَكَ فِي الْبِرِّ وَاللُّطْفِ سَوَاءً ؟ " قَالَ : نَعَمْ . قَالَ : " فَأَشْهِدْ عَلَى هَذَا غَيْرِي " ، وَذَكَرَ مُجَالِدٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : " إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الْحَقِّ أَنْ تَعْدِلَ بَيْنَهُمْ كَمَا أَنَّ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الْحَقِّ أَنْ يَبَرُّوكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that once my mother asked my father to give me something as a gift. He gave me that thing as a gift. She said that I will not be satisfied until you make the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) a witness to this. At that time, I was young. My father took my hand and went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! His mother, the daughter of Rawaha, has asked me to give this child something as a gift, so I have done so. She wants me to make you a witness to it." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Basheer! Do you have any other sons besides him?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Have you given all your sons the same as you have given him?" He replied, "No." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not make me a witness to this, for I cannot be a witness to injustice."
Hadith 18379
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَثَلُ الْقَائِمِ عَلَى حُدُودِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَالرَّاتِعِ فِيهَا ، وَالْمُدَّهِنِ فِيهَا ، مَثَلُ قَوْمٍ اسْتَهَمُوا عَلَى سَفِينَةٍ ، فَأَصَابَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَعْلَاهَا ، وَأَصَابَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَسْفَلَهَا وَأَوْعَرَهَا ، وَإِذَا الَّذِينَ أَسْفَلَهَا إِذَا اسْتَقَوْا مِنَ الْمَاءِ ، مَرُّوا عَلَى أَصْحَابِهِمْ ، فَآذَوْهُمْ ، فَقَالُوا : لَوْ أَنَّا خَرَقْنَا فِي نَصِيبِنَا خَرْقًا ، فَاسْتَقَيْنَا مِنْهُ ، وَلَمْ نَمُرَّ عَلَى أَصْحَابِنَا فَنُؤْذِيَهُمْ ، فَإِنْ تَرَكُوهُمْ ، وَمَا أَرَادُوا ، هَلَكُوا ، وَإِنْ أَخَذُوا عَلَى أَيْدِيهِمْ ، نَجَوْا جَمِيعًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of those who establish the limits set by Allah and those who are lenient regarding them is like a people who set out on a sea journey. Some of them sit in the lower part (of the boat) and some sit in the upper part. The people in the lower part have to go up to fetch water, and some water spills on those above. Seeing this, the people above say, “Now we will not let you come up, you cause us trouble.” The people below reply, “Alright, then we will make a hole in the bottom of the boat and get water from there.” Now, if the people above hold their hands and stop them from this, then all will be saved; otherwise, all will drown.
Hadith 18380
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي تَوَادِّهِمْ وَتَعَاطُفِهِمْ وَتَرَاحُمِهِمْ مَثَلُ الْجَسَدِ ، إِذَا اشْتَكَى مِنْهُ عُضْوٌ تَدَاعَى سَائِرُ الْجَسَدِ بِالسَّهَرِ وَالْحُمَّى " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of the believers in their mutual love, compassion, and kindness is like that of a body; when one limb suffers, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever.
Hadith 18381
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ الضَّحَّاكَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ ، سَأَلَ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ : " بِمَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ مَعَ سُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ ؟ قَالَ : هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَة " .
Dhahhak bin Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) says that he asked Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him): "Which surah did the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recite in the Friday prayer besides Surah Jumu'ah?" He replied: "Surah Ghashiyah."
Hadith 18382
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، وَحُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ أخبراه ، أنهما سمعا النعمان بن بشير ، يَقُولُ : " نَحَلَنِي أَبِي غُلَامًا ، فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأُشْهِدَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " أَكُلَّ وَلَدِكَ قَدْ نَحَلْتَ ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : " فَارْدُدْهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father gave him a gift, then his father went to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him to bear witness to it. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Have you given all your sons the same as you have given him?" He said, "No." So the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Take it back."
Hadith 18383
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " قَرَأَ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ ب سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى و هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ ، وَإِنْ وَافَقَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، قَرَأَهُمَا جَمِيعًا " . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : حَبِيبُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ سَمِعَهُ مِنَ النُّعْمَانِ ، وَكَانَ كَاتِبَهُ ، وَسُفْيَانُ يُخْطِئُ فِيهِ يَقُولُ : حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، وَهُوَ سَمِعَهُ مِنَ النُّعْمَانِ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-A'la and Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayers, and if Eid fell on a Friday, he would recite these two Surahs in both prayers (Eid and Jumu'ah).
Hadith 18384
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : حَفِظْتُهُ مِنْ أَبِي فَرْوَةَ أَوَّلًا ، ثُمَّ مِنْ مُجَالِدٍ ، سَمِعَهُ مِنَ الشَّعْبِيِّ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَكُنْتُ إِذَا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَصْغَيْتُ وَتَقَرَّبْتُ ، وَخَشِيتُ أَنْ لَا أَسْمَعَ أَحَدًا يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " حَلَالٌ بَيِّنٌ وَحَرَامٌ بَيِّنٌ ، وَشُبُهَاتٌ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ ، مَنْ تَرَكَ مَا اشْتَبَهَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْإِثْمِ ، كَانَ لِمَا اسْتَبَانَ لَهُ أَتْرَكَ ، وَمَنْ اجْتَرَأَ عَلَى مَا شَكَّ فِيهِ ، أَوْشَكَ أَنْ يُوَاقِعَ الْحَرَامَ ، وَإِنَّ لِكُلِّ مَلِكٍ حِمًى ، وَإِنَّ حِمَى اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَعَاصِيهِ " أَوْ قَالَ : " مَحَارِمُهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard with my own ears the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters. Whoever leaves these doubtful matters will easily be able to avoid the unlawful. And the sanctities of Allah are His pastures, and whoever grazes his animals around the pasture is at risk of entering into it."
Hadith 18385
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقِيمُ الصُّفُوفَ ، كَمَا تُقَامُ الرِّمَاحُ ، أَوْ الْقِدَاحُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to straighten the rows in such a manner as arrows are straightened.
Hadith 18386
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ يُسَيْعٍ الْكِنْدِيِّ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الدُّعَاءَ هُوَ الْعِبَادَةُ " ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ : وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ سورة غافر آية 60 " . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد الرَّحْمَنِ : يُسَيْعٌ الْكِنْدِيُّ : يُسَيْعُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Supplication is the essence of worship. Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Call upon Me; I will respond to your supplication. Those who are arrogant regarding My worship..."
