Hadith 18288
Abu Jubairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, there was not a single person among us who did not have one or two nicknames. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would call someone by his nickname, we would say, "O Messenger of Allah! He dislikes this name." Upon this, the verse was revealed: "Do not taunt one another with different nicknames."
