I brought water for ablution to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked me and said, "Step back! By Allah! Mughirah is greatly troubled by your rebuke; he fears that perhaps there is some burden in your heart regarding him?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "There is nothing in my heart regarding him except goodness. However, he brought water for ablution to me while I had only eaten food. If I had performed ablution, then after me people would also start doing the same."

It is narrated from Hazrat Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me for water. I reached a tent where there was a Bedouin woman. I said to her, "The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has come and is asking for water for ablution. Do you have any water?" She replied, "May my parents be sacrificed for the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)! By Allah, under the shade of the sky and on the face of the earth, there is no one more beloved and honored to me than the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This water skin is made from the hide of a dead animal. I do not wish to make the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) impure with it." I returned to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and related the whole matter. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Go back. If she has tanned the hide, then tanning is its purification." So I went back to the woman and mentioned this issue to her. She said, "By God! I have tanned it." So I took water from it and brought it to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). That day, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a Syrian cloak, socks, and a turban. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took his hands out from under the cloak because its sleeves were narrow, then performed ablution and wiped over the turban and socks.
