It is narrated from Hazrat Wabisa bin Ma’bad (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask about virtue and sin. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Have you come to ask me about virtue and sin?" I replied, "By the One Who has sent you with the truth, I have come to ask you about nothing else." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Virtue is that which brings contentment to your heart, and sin is that which causes uneasiness in your heart, even if people keep giving you legal verdicts."

It is narrated from Hazrat Wabisa (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with the intention that I would not leave out asking about any good or sin from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When I arrived, there were many people present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I began to move forward, stepping over people. The people said, "Wabisa! Step back from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." I said, "I am Wabisa, let me come near him, for among all the people, I like being closest to him the most." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said to me, "Wabisa! Come closer." So I came so close that my knee began to touch the knee of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Wabisa, what have you come to ask me about?" I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), you tell me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have come to ask me about virtue and sin." I submitted, "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) joined his three fingers together and, touching my chest with them, said, "Wabisa! Seek a verdict from your own soul. Virtue is that which the heart feels at ease with and the soul finds peace in, and sin is that which pricks at your heart and causes hesitation in your chest, even if people keep giving you verdicts."
