حَدِيثُ ثَابِتِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ابْنِ وَدَاعَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ
Hadith of Thabit ibn Yazid ibn Wada'ah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 17928
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ وَدِيعَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَاهُ بِضِبَابٍ قَدْ احْتَرَشَهَا ، فَجَعَلَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى ضَبٍّ مِنْهَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِنَّ أُمَّةً مُسِخَتْ ، فَلَا أَدْرِي لَعَلَّ هَذَا مِنْهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that a lizard was hunted and brought to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned the lizard over and examined it, and said: "The forms of some communities were transformed; I do not know, perhaps this is one of them."
Hadith 17929
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَدِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ وَهْبٍ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ وَدِيعَةَ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِضِبَابٍ قَدْ احْتَرَشَهَا ، قَالَ فَجَعَلَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ وَيُقَلِّبُهُ ، وَقَالَ : " إِنَّ أُمَّةً مُسِخَتْ ، فَلَا يُدْرَى مَا فَعَلَتْ ، وَإِنِّي لَا أَدْرِي لَعَلَّ هَذَا مِنْهَا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man brought several hunted lizards to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned one of the lizards over and said: "The forms of some communities were transformed; I do not know, perhaps this is one of them."
Hadith 17930
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ وَدَاعَةَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي فَزَارَةَ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِضِبَابٍ ، قَالَ : فَجَعَلَ يُقَلِّبُ ضَبًّا مِنْهَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ أُمَّةً مُسِخَتْ " . قَالَ : " وَأَكْثَرُ عِلْمِي أَنَّهُ قَالَ : مَا أَدْرِي لَعَلَّ هَذَا مِنْهَا " . قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : وَقَالَ حُصَيْنٌ : عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ : فَذَكَرَ شَيْئًا نَحْوًا مِنْ هَذَا ، قَالَ : فَلَمْ يَأْمُرْ بِهِ ، وَلَمْ يَنْهَ أَحَدًا عَنْهُ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man brought several hunted lizards to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned one of the lizards over and looked at it, and said: "The forms of some communities were transformed; I do not know, perhaps this is one of them." The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.
Hadith 17931
حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ، عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ وَدَاعَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : اصْطَدْنَا ضِبَابًا وَنَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ ، قَالَ : فَطَبَخَ النَّاسُ وَشَوَوْا ، قَالَ : فَأَخَذْتُ ضَبًّا فَشَوَيْتُهُ ، فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَوَضَعَتُه بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَأَخَذَ عُودًا ، فَجَعَلَ يُقَلِّبُ بِهِ أَصَابِعَهُ ، أَوْ يَعُدُّهَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِنَّ أُمَّةً مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مُسِخَتْ دَوَابَّ فِي الْأَرْضِ ، وَإِنِّي لَا أَدْرِي أَيَّ الدَّوَابِّ هِيَ " قَالَ : قُلْتُ : إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ شَوَوْا . قَالَ : فَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ ، وَلَمْ يَنْهَهُمْ عَنْهُ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a military expedition. We hunted a lizard, and people began to cook and roast it. I also took a lizard, roasted it, and brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and placed it before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned it over with a stick and said, "A form of one of the animals among the Children of Israel was transformed; I do not know which animal it was." I submitted, "People are roasting and eating it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) neither ate it himself nor forbade others from eating it.
Hadith 17932
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : عَفَّانُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ قَالَ : الْحَكَمُ أَخْبَرَنِي ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ ، عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ وَدَاعَةَ ، قَالَ : أَنَّهُ قَالَ : أُتِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِضَبٍّ فَقَالَ : " أُمَّةٌ مُسِخَتْ ، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ " . قَالَ عَفَّانُ : " فَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ ".
It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man brought several hunted lizards to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the forms of a certain nation were transformed; I do not know, perhaps this is the same.
