حَدِيثُ زِيَادِ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ
Hadith of Ziyad ibn Labid (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 17919
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ ، قَالَ : ذَكَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا ، قَالَ : " وَذَاكَ عِنْدَ أَوَانِ ذَهَابِ الْعِلْمِ " . قَالَ : قُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وكيف يَذْهَبُ الْعِلْمُ وَنَحْنُ نَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَنُقْرِئُهُ أَبْنَاءَنَا ، وَيُقْرِئُهُ أَبْنَاؤُنَا أَبْنَاءَهُمْ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ؟ قَالَ : " ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ يَا ابْنَ أُمِّ لَبِيدٍ ، إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَرَاكَ مِنْ أَفْقَهِ رَجُلٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، أَوَلَيْسَ هَذِهِ الْيَهُودُ ، وَالنَّصَارَى يَقْرَءُونَ التَّوْرَاةَ وَالْإِنْجِيلَ ، فَلَا يَنْتَفِعُونَ مِمَّا فِيهِمَا بِشَيْءٍ ؟ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Ziyad bin Labeed (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned something and said that this will happen at the time when knowledge will be lost. We said, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) We ourselves recite the Qur'an and teach it to our children, then they teach it to their children, and this chain will continue like this until the Day of Judgment, so how will knowledge be lost?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Ibn Umm Labeed! May your mother lose you and weep for you! I thought you were one of the most intelligent men of Madinah. Do not the Jews and Christians recite the Torah and the Gospel? In reality, these people do not benefit from the teachings contained in them even a little."
Hadith 17920
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَالِمَ بْنَ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ لَبِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَذَا أَوَانُ ذَهَابِ الْعِلْمِ " . قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : أَوْ قَالَ : " هَذَا أَوَانُ انْقِطَاعِ الْعِلْمِ " . فَقُلْتُ : وَكَيْفَ وَفِينَا كِتَابُ اللَّهِ نُعَلِّمُهُ أَبْنَاءَنَا ، وَيُعَلِّمُهُ أَبْنَاؤُنَا أَبْنَاءَهُمْ ؟ ! قَالَ : " ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ ابْنَ لَبِيدٍ ، مَا كُنْتُ أَحْسَبُكَ إِلَّا مِنْ أَعْقَلِ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، أَلَيْسَ الْيَهُودُ ، وَالنَّصَارَى فِيهِمْ كِتَابُ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى ؟ " . قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : أَوْ قَالَ : " أَلَيْسَ الْيَهُودُ ، وَالنَّصَارَى فِيهِمْ التَّوْرَاةُ وَالْإِنْجِيلُ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنْتَفِعُوا مِنْهُ بِشَيْءٍ ؟ " أَوْ قَالَ : " أَلَيْسَ الْيَهُودُ ، وَالنَّصَارَى ، أَوْ أهل الكتاب شُعْبَةُ يَقُولُ ذَلِك فِيهِمْ كِتَابُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ".
