Hadith of 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Qatadah al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 17660
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ رَاشِدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ السُّلَمِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ خَلَقَ آدَمَ ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ الْخَلْقَ مِنْ ظَهْرِهِ ، وَقَالَ : هَؤُلَاءِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَلَا أُبَالِي ، وَهَؤُلَاءِ فِي النَّارِ وَلَا أُبَالِي " . قَالَ : فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَعَلَى مَاذَا نَعْمَلُ ؟ قَالَ : " عَلَى مَوَاقِعِ الْقَدَرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Allah Almighty created Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him), then brought forth his offspring and all creation from his back and said, "These people will go to Paradise and I do not care, and these people will go to Hell and I do not care." Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) Then on what basis should we act?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "On the basis of the decreed destinies."
