حَدِیث خَیثَمَةَ بنِ عَبدِ الرَّحمَنِ ، عَن اَبِیهِ رَضِیَ اللَّه تَعَالَى عَنهمَا
Hadith of Khaythamah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from his father (may Allah be pleased with them)
Hadith 17604
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ اسْمُ أَبِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ عَزِيزًا ، فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ " .
Khaitamah narrates from his father that in the time of ignorance, his father's name was Aziz, which the Prophet (peace be upon him) changed to Abdur Rahman.
Hadith 17605
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ أَسْمَائِكُمْ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَالحارِثَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The best of your names are Abdullah, Abdur Rahman, and Harith.
Hadith 17606
حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو وَكِيعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ ذَهَبَ مَعَ جَدِّهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا اسْمُ ابْنِكَ ؟ قَالَ : عَزِيزٌ . فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تُسَمِّهِ عَزِيزًا ، وَلَكِنْ سَمِّهِ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِنَّ خَيْرَ الْأَسْمَاءِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَالْحَارِثُ " .
It is narrated from Khaythamah that his father, Abdur Rahman, went with his grandfather to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked his grandfather, "What is your son's name?" He replied, "Aziz." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Do not name him Aziz, rather name him Abdur Rahman." Then he said, "The best names are Abdullah, Abdur Rahman, and Harith."
Hadith 17607
حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادٌ أَوْ عَبَّادٌ ، عَنْ الْحَجَّاجِ ، عَنْ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ سَبْرَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا وَلَدُكَ ؟ " قَالَ فُلَانُ ، وَفُلَانُ ، وَعَبْدُ الْعُزَّى . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هُوَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، إِنَّ مِن أَحَقَّ أَسْمَائِكُمْ أَوْ مِنْ خَيْرِ أَسْمَائِكُمْ إِنْ سَمَّيْتُمْ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَالْحَارِثَ " .
It is narrated from Khaythamah that his father Abdur Rahman, along with his grandfather, presented themselves in the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked his grandfather, "What are your sons' names?" He replied, "So-and-so, so-and-so, and Abdul-Uzza." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "He is Abdur Rahman." Then he said, "The best names are Abdullah, Abdur Rahman, and Harith."
Hadith 17608
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : وَلَدَ جَدِّي غُلَامًا ، فَسَمَّاهُ عَزِيزًا ، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : وُلِدَ لِي غُلَامٌ ، قَالَ : " فَمَا سَمَّيْتَهُ ؟ " قَالَ : قُلْتُ : عَزِيزًا . قَالَ : " لَا ، بَلْ هُوَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ " . قَالَ : فَهُوَ أَبِي.
It is narrated from Khaythamah that a boy was born to my grandfather, and he named him Aziz. Then he went to the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said that a son has been born to me. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked my grandfather, "What name have you given him?" He replied, "Aziz!" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Name him Abdur Rahman." He was my father.
