It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that we used to give land on sharecropping and did not consider there to be any harm in it. It is narrated from Hazrat Rafi’ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) Tomorrow we will face our enemy (animals), while we do not have any knife? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whatever thing, besides teeth and nails, causes the animal’s blood to flow and Allah’s name is mentioned over it, you may eat it. And let me tell you the reason: teeth are bone and nails are the knives of the Abyssinians. During this time, some camels were received as spoils of war, among which one camel ran away. People tried very hard to control it but could not succeed. Finally, a man aimed and shot an arrow at it and brought it under control. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These animals also sometimes become wild just as wild animals become furious. When you are overpowered by an animal, do the same with it.
It is narrated from Hazrat Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade selling dates that are still on the trees in exchange for harvested dates, except that he permitted it (in less than five wasqs) for those in need.
It is narrated from Hazrat Rafi’ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, O Messenger of Allah! (peace and blessings be upon him) We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at Dhul-Hulaifah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) received some goats and camels as spoils of war. People quickly put pots on the fire. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and ordered the pots to be overturned. Then he said, “One camel is equivalent to ten goats.” Among those camels, one camel ran away. People tried very hard to catch it but could not succeed. Finally, out of frustration, a man aimed and shot an arrow at it and managed to control it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “These animals also sometimes become wild just as wild animals become furious. When you are overpowered by an animal, do the same with it.” (They asked) “Tomorrow we may face our enemy (among the animals), and we do not have any knife with us?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Other than teeth and nails, whatever causes the animal’s blood to flow and Allah’s name is mentioned over it, you may eat it. And let me also tell you the reason: teeth are bone, and nails are the knives of the Abyssinians.”
It is narrated from Hazrat Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade hufl. The narrator asked, “What is meant by hufl?” He replied, “To give land on sharecropping for a third or a fourth of the produce.” Upon hearing this hadith, Ibrahim also gave a verdict regarding its dislike, and did not consider it objectionable to take land in exchange for dirhams.

Abu al-Najashi says that I asked Hazrat Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) about the issue of renting out land, that I have some land, can I give it on rent? He replied, do not give it on rent, because I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that whoever has land should cultivate it himself, if he cannot do it himself, then he should allow his brother to do it, and if he cannot do even this, then let it remain as it is. I asked, tell me, if I give my land to someone and he cultivates it and sends me straw, what is the ruling? He replied, do not take anything from him, not even straw. I said, I do not make it a condition with him, rather he sends it to me only as a gift. He replied, even then do not take anything from him.
It is narrated from Hazrat Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that when his grandfather passed away, he left behind in his inheritance a slave woman, a camel for bringing water, a barber slave, and some land. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave the ruling regarding the slave woman that her earnings should be prohibited (so that she does not become a professional worker), and he said regarding the barber slave: whatever he earns, buy fodder with it and feed it to the camel. And regarding the land, he said: cultivate it yourself through farming or just leave it as it is.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Abdullah bin Sahl Ansari and Muhayyisa bin Mas’ud came to Khaybar for some work. They separated from each other, and someone killed Abdullah, and he was found murdered in the middle of Khaybar. His two uncles and his brother came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). His brother’s name was Abdur Rahman bin Sahl, and the uncles’ names were Huwayyisa and Muhayyisa. Abdur Rahman began to speak before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Let the elders speak.” So one of his uncles began to speak. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Fifty men from among you should swear an oath and say that the Jews killed him.” They said, “How can we swear an oath about something we did not see with our own eyes?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Then fifty Jews should swear an oath and declare their innocence and say that they did not kill him.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), how can we trust their oath when they are polytheists?” Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) paid the blood money from his own side. One of the young camels from the blood money kicked me on the leg. The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.
