It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who should lead the people in prayer is the one among them who is the best reciter of the Qur'an and the most proficient in its recitation. If they are equal in recitation, then the one who migrated first should lead. If they are equal in migration, then the oldest among them should lead. No one should lead prayer in the house or domain of another except with his permission, and likewise, no one should sit in the honored place of someone in his house except with his permission."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man was presented before Allah Almighty. Allah asked him, "What did you do in the world?" He replied, "I did not do any good deed, not even equal to a particle, for which I could hope for reward from You." This happened three times. The third time, he said, "O Lord! You granted me abundance of wealth and riches in the world, and I used to trade with people. It was my habit to show leniency to people, to make things easy for the wealthy, and to give respite to the poor." Upon this, Allah Almighty said, "We are more deserving of this than you. Angels! Forgive My servant." Thus, he was forgiven. Upon hearing this hadith, Hazrat Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I heard this hadith from the blessed mouth of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in exactly this way."
There was another man who instructed his family that when he died, they should burn him and crush his remains, and on a windy day, scatter his ashes. His family did as he had instructed. All his body parts were gathered in the presence of the Lord, and Allah asked him, "What compelled you to do this?" He replied, "O Lord! There was no servant more disobedient to You than me. I thought perhaps in this way I might be saved." Allah Almighty said, "Angels! Forgive My servant." Upon hearing this hadith as well, Hazrat Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I heard this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in exactly this way."

The narrator says: I have never seen the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) more angry during a sermon than on that day. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People! It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man came and sat right in front of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and we were also present there. He said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have learned the way to greet you with salam, but when we send blessings upon you in prayer, how should we do so?" The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent for so long at his question that we began to think it would have been better if this man had not asked. After a little while, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you send blessings upon me, say this: «اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْاُمِّيِّ ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْاُمِّيِّ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ»."

Salim Al-Barrad (who is a trustworthy narrator) says that once Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) said to us, “Shall I not show you how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray?” Saying this, he pronounced the takbir, placed both his palms on his knees in ruku’, kept the joints of his fingers open, and kept his hands away from his stomach, until every limb was settled in its place. Then, after saying «سمع الله لمن حمده», he stood up straight until every limb was settled in its place. Then, pronouncing the takbir, he performed sajdah and kept his hands away from his stomach until every limb was settled in its place. Then, raising his head, he sat up straight until every limb was settled in its place. Then, he performed the second sajdah, and he prayed all four rak’ahs in this manner, and then said, “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray like this.”

Aamir says that (on the occasion of the Pledge of Aqabah) the Prophet (peace be upon him) along with his uncle Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reached near seventy Ansar individuals under a tree at a mountain pass and said: Let your spokesman speak, but do not speak at length because the polytheists have appointed spies over you; if they find out, they will defame you. So one of them, that is, Abu Umamah, spoke: O Muhammad (peace be upon you)! First, present whatever demands you wish from your Lord, for yourself, and for your companions, then tell us what reward we will have from Allah and from you if we fulfill your demands? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: For my Lord, I demand from you that you worship Him alone, associate nothing with Him, and for myself and my companions, I demand that you give us shelter, help us, and protect us just as you protect yourselves. They asked: If we do this, what will we get? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "You will get Paradise." They said: Then we have made this promise to you.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man was presented before Allah for reckoning, but no good deed was found in his account. However, he was a wealthy man who used to trade with people. He had instructed his servants to give respite to those in difficulty. Upon this, Allah Almighty said: "We are more deserving of this than you. Angels! Pardon My servant as well." Thus, he was forgiven.

Imam Zuhri narrates that once we were with Umar bin Abdul Aziz, and he delayed the Asr prayer. So Urwah bin Zubair said to him: Bashir bin Abi Mas’ud Ansari narrated this hadith to me that once Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) also delayed the Asr prayer, so Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: By Allah, Mughirah! You know that once Jibreel (peace be upon him) descended and led the prayer, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) also prayed at that time. In this way, he came at the time of each of the five prayers and specified the time. Upon hearing this hadith, Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Urwah! Speak thoughtfully, did Jibreel (peace be upon him) specify the time of prayer? Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: Yes! Bashir bin Abi Mas’ud narrated the hadith to me in this way. After that, until Umar bin Abdul Aziz departed from this world, he would determine the time of prayer by its sign.
