Hadith of Uqbah ibn Malik
Hadith 17007
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْقَيْسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي بَشْرُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ اللَّيْثِيُّ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَكَانَ مِنْ رَهْطِهِ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَرِيَّةً ، فَسَلَّحْتُ رَجُلًا سَيْفًا ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ ، قَالَ : مَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَ مَا لَامَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أَعَجَزْتُمْ إِذْ بَعَثْتُ رَجُلًا ، فَلَمْ يَمْضِ لِأَمْرِي أَنْ تَجْعَلُوا مَكَانَهُ مَنْ يَمْضِي لِأَمْرِي ؟ ! .
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a detachment of the army, and I gave a man a sword in it. When he returned, he said, "I have never seen a better way of reproaching than what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) adopted." He said, "Were you so incapable that if a person could not do my task, you would appoint someone else who could complete that task?"
Hadith 17008
حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ ، عَنْ بِشْرِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ اللَّيْثِيُّ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ ، إِذْ قَالَ الْقَائِلُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَاللَّهِ مَا قَالَ الَّذِي قَالَ إِلَّا تَعَوُّذًا مِنَ الْقَتْلِ ، فَذَكَرَ قِصَّتَهُ ، فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تُعْرَفُ الْمَسَاءَةُ فِي وَجْهِهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَبَى عَلَيَّ مَنْ قَتَلَ مُؤْمِنًا " ، قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon when a person said: O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, he uttered this word only to save his life. Then the narrator mentioned the complete hadith and said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards him, and on the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were signs of grief and anger at that time, and he said three times: Allah Almighty has refused to accept my word in favor of the one who kills a Muslim.
Hadith 17009
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ ، قَالَ : جَمَعَ بَيْنِي ، وَبَيْنَ بِشْرِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ رَجُلٌ فَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّ سَرِيَّةً لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَشُوا أَهْلَ مَاءٍ صُبْحًا ، فَبَرَزَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَاءِ ، فَحَمَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي مُسْلِمٌ فَقَتَلَهُ ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمُوا أَخْبَرُوا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذَلِكَ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطِيبًا ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَمَّا بَعْدُ ، فَمَا بَالُ الْمُسْلِمِ يَقْتُلُ الرَّجُلَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ إِنِّي مُسْلِمٌ " ، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : إِنَّمَا قَالَهَا مُتَعَوِّذًا ، فَصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجْهَهُ ، وَمَدَّ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى ، فَقَالَ : " أَبَى اللَّهُ عَلَيَّ مَنْ قَتَلَ مُسْلِمًا " ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day a detachment attacked the people of a certain area in the morning; those people lived near water. One of them came out, so a Muslim attacked him and said, "I am a Muslim," but despite this, he killed him. On their return, when they informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to deliver a sermon, praised Allah, and after saying 'Amma ba'd', said: "What is the matter that a Muslim kills another person even after he has professed Islam?" That person said, "O Messenger of Allah! He only recited the Kalimah to save his life." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face away from him and, raising his right hand, said three times: "Allah has refused to accept my word in favor of one who kills a Muslim."
