Hadith 9947

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قََالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَلِيمٌ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . وَبَهْزٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي سَلِيمُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ ، وَإِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمًا صَائِمًا ، فَلَا يَرْفُثْ ، وَلَا يَجْهَلْ ، فَإِنْ أَحَدٌ شَتَمَهُ أَوْ فَإِنْ امْرُؤٌ شَتَمَهُ ، فَلْيَقُلْ : إِنِّي صَائِمٌ " ، قَالَ بَهْزٌ : " فَإِنْ امْرُؤٌ شَتَمَهُ أَوْ قَاتَلَهُ , فَلْيَقُلْ : إِنِّي صَائِمٌ " ، وَكَذَا قَالَ عَفَّانُ : " أَوْ قَاتَلَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Fasting is a shield. When any one of you is observing a fast, he should neither indulge in indecent talk nor act ignorantly. If someone tries to fight or abuse him, he should simply say: I am fasting.
