Hadith 979

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، أَنْبَأَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَمِّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَسُئِلَ : يَرْكَبُ الرَّجُلُ هَدْيَهُ ؟ فَقَالَ : لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ ، قَدْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَمُرُّ بِالرِّجَالِ يَمْشُونَ ، فَيَأْمُرُهُمْ يَرْكَبُونَ هَدْيَهُ ، َهَدْيَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " ، قَالَ : وَلَا تَتَّبِعُونَ شَيْئًا أَفْضَلَ مِنْ سُنَّةِ نَبِيِّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Once, someone asked Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) whether a person can ride the sacrificial animal—called Hadi—that he is taking for sacrifice during Hajj. He replied: There is no harm in it. Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by those who were walking, he would instruct them to ride the Hadi animal, and you will not be able to follow anything superior to the Sunnah of your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
