حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَة ، قَالَ : " كَانَ اسْمُ زَيْنَبَ بَرَّةَ ، فَسَمَّاهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَيْنَبَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the honorable wife of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), was previously named Barrah. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed her name to Zainab.
