Hadith 9551

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ اتَّبَعَ جَنَازَةَ مُسْلِمٍ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا ، وَأَقَامَ حَتَّى تُدْفَنَ رَجَعَ بِقِيرَاطَيْنِ مِنَ الْأَجْرِ ، كُلُّ قِيرَاطٍ مِثْلُ أُحُدٍ ، وَمَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا وَرَجَعَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُدْفَنَ ، فَإِنَّهُ يَرْجِعُ بِقِيرَاطٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever offers the funeral prayer of a Muslim with faith and the intention of reward will receive a reward equal to one qirat, and whoever waits until the burial is completed will receive a reward equal to two qirats, each of which is as great as the mountain of Uhud.
