حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، بِمِنًى يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَقَاضَاهُ , فَأَغْلَظَ لَهُ ، قَالَ : فَهَمَّ بِهِ أَصْحَابُهُ . فَقَالَ : " دَعُوهُ , فَإِنَّ لِصَاحِبِ الْحَقِّ مَقَالًا " . قَالَ : " اشْتَرُوا لَهُ بَعِيرًا ، فَأَعْطُوهُ إِيَّاهُ " . قَالُوا : لَا نَجِدُ إِلَّا سِنًّا أَفْضَلَ مِنْ سِنِّهِ . قَالَ : " فَاشْتَرُوهُ فَأَعْطُوهُ إِيَّاهُ ، فَإِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِكُمْ أَحْسَنَكُمْ قَضَاءً " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to demand his camel and he was harsh in his demand. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) intended to beat him, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Leave him, for the rightful person can speak." Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Buy a camel of the same age as his camel and give it to him." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) searched but could not find a camel of the required age; every camel was older than that. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then buy an older camel and give it to him. The best among you is the one who is best in repaying debts."
