Hadith 9041

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ مَوْلَى أُمِّ بُرْثُنٍ حَدَّثَ , عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَة ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم : " كَتَبَ اللَّهُ الْجُمُعَةَ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَنَا فَاخْتَلَفُوا فيها ، وَهَدَانَا اللَّهُ لَهَا ، فَالنَّاسُ لَنَا فِيهَا تَبَعٌ ، فَلِلْيَهُودِ غَدًا ، وَلِلنَّصَارَى بَعْدَ غَدٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Allah had made Friday obligatory upon the people before us as well, but they differed regarding it, whereas Allah guided us in this matter. Thus, now people follow us concerning this day. The day after (Saturday) is for the Jews, and the day after that (Sunday) is for the Christians.
