Hadith 8764

حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ أَبُو صَالِحٍ ، بِمَكَّةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ نُهَاقَ الْحَمِيرِ بِاللَّيْلِ فَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا ، فَإِنَّهَا رَأَتْ شَيْطَانًا ، وَإِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ صُرَاخَ الدِّيَكَةِ بِاللَّيْلِ فَاسْأَلُوا اللَّهَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ ، فَإِنَّهَا رَأَتْ مَلَكًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you hear the braying of a donkey at night, it has seen a devil, so seek refuge with Allah from the evil of the devil. And when you hear the crowing of a rooster at night, remember that it has seen an angel, so at that time ask Allah for His bounty.
