Hadith 868

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ التَّيْمِيُّ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنِي رُكَيْنٌ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ قَبِيصَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ رَجُلًا مَذَّاءً ، فَجَعَلْتُ أَغْتَسِلُ فِي الشِّتَاءِ حَتَّى تَشَقَّقَ ظَهْرِي ، قَالَ : فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَوْ ذُكِرَ لَهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " لَا تَفْعَلْ ، إِذَا رَأَيْتَ الْمَذْيَ فَاغْسِلْ ذَكَرَكَ ، وَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَكَ لِلصَّلَاةِ ، فَإِذَا فَضَخْتَ الْمَاءَ فَاغْتَسِلْ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Discharge of madhiy (pre-seminal fluid) would occur frequently from my body. Even in cold weather, I would perform ghusl (ritual bath) so much because of it that my back became sore. I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: "Do not do that. When you see madhiy, wash your private part and perform wudu (ablution) as you do for prayer, and if semen is discharged, then perform ghusl."
