Hadith 842

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، سَمِعْتُ عَاصِمَ بْنَ ضَمْرَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " لَيْسَ الْوَتْرُ بِحَتْمٍ كَالصَّلَاةِ ، وَلَكِنْ سُنَّةٌ فَلَا تَدَعُوهُ " ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : وَوَجَدْتُهُ مَكْتُوبًا عِنْدِي : " وَقَدْ أَوْتَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Witr does not have definitive proof from the Noble Qur’an like the obligatory prayers, but its obligation is established from the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so do not abandon it.
