Hadith 8346

حَدَّثَنَا رِبْعِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : عَطَسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَحَدُهُمَا أَشْرَفُ مِنَ الْآخَرِ ، فَعَطَسَ الشَّرِيفُ فَلَمْ يَحْمَدْ اللَّهَ ، فَلَمْ يُشَمِّتْهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَعَطَسَ الْآخَرُ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ ، فَشَمَّتَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ : فَقَالَ الشَّرِيفُ عَطَسْتُ عِنْدَكَ فَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي ، وَعَطَسَ هَذَا عِنْدَكَ فَشَمَّتَّهُ ! فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ هَذَا ذَكَرَ اللَّهَ فَذَكَرْتُهُ ، وَإِنَّكَ نَسِيتَ اللَّهَ فَنَسِيتُكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that in a gathering of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), two men sneezed. One of them was more honorable than the other, but after sneezing, he did not say "Alhamdulillah," so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not respond to him. The other man said "Alhamdulillah," so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) responded to him. That man said, "I sneezed, but you did not respond to me, and he sneezed and you responded to him?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He remembered Allah, so I remembered him, and you forgot Him, so I forgot you."
