Hadith 8340

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ بْنِ قُنْفُذٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَتَتَّبِعُنَّ سُنَنَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ شِبْرًا بِشِبْرٍ ، وَذِرَاعًا فِِِِذِِراعًا ، وَبَاعًا فَبَاعًا ، حَتَّى لَوْ دَخَلُوا جُحْرَ ضَبٍّ لَدَخَلْتُمُوهُ " ، قَالُوا : وَمَنْ هُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ ؟ قَالَ " فَمَه " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul, you will certainly follow the practices of the previous nations, span by span and cubit by cubit, so much so that if they entered the hole of a lizard, you would also enter it. The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Who are they? The People of the Book?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Who else?"
